Gardner and Brown
According to ESPN Insider, Brown is likely going to the Broncos (the Broncos have told people around the league that he will choose them.....for whatever that's worth). I'd post a link for you all, but it's a pay site, so it wouldn't work.
Seattle is the most likely to trade for Gardner now that they know that they have two third round picks and two fourth round picks (they acquired compensatory picks). The Redskins are apparently asking for a third rounder, and while about 5 teams are interested in paying that price, most are not willing to risk spending a third rounder on a guy who may test free agency after next season (Gardner has been unwilling to agree to long-term deals). Seattle, however, may take the risk sitting on 2 third-rounders. My reactions: 1. I would still like to get Brown......I think he'd be very effective rotating in and out of the line. 2. I'm actually pleased if the Skins get a third rounder for Gardner. That's really the best I thought they could do. Assuming they get a 3rd for Gardner, anybody have any thoughts on whether you'd like to see them trade the two thirds for a second? |
Re: Gardner and Brown
Why would the Broncos want half the damn d-line of the browns? At least one of these guys sucks, and they obviously don't play well together.
|
Re: Gardner and Brown
Keep them both.
I like depth more than the risk of moving up. Unless there is some Cooley type player that is still avilable or some first rounder that has fallen down. |
Re: Gardner and Brown
What the f%&$ do the Broncos know? Are we to believe he left and said he was going to sign with them but only after visiting other teams first? He clearly was not happy with either theirs or our offer so it sounds fishy to me.
|
Re: Gardner and Brown
Let them get the third before talk about trading it.
|
Re: Gardner and Brown
I could care less where Gardner goes. Just get him out of here so we can get some more cap space.
As for Brown, if he wants to go the Broncos, then fine. I wasn't all that crazy about getting him anyways. |
Re: Gardner and Brown
I definately think the 'Skins should hold onto both 3rd rounders. This year's draft doesn't have stars, but it has a lot of depth at DE, DT, OT, OG and CB. We should keep the picks and go for depth.

Re: Gardner and Brown
F@#% Brown, first he says, he's broke it down to two teams, the Skins and the Broncos, and then over the weekend he goes to Jacksonville, and suppose to make a trip to Seattle, he's toying with us...we were very kind Gibb's and Co., went out to visit him, brought him in to Redskin Park, treated him like a king....and now he's acting like he's Julius Peppers....he's not....if he don't come to the skins...and goes to Jax, or Den., then I hope a few more injured riddle seasons.......I gone
|
Re: Gardner and Brown
If people signed with us just because we were nice, we'd sign just about everybody in the league. I AM with you on the fact that he is definitely JUST about the money. That being said, it seems that's how it is around the league these days with the exception of a select few. Toy with us all he wants, I would like to see him sign a one-year deal if anything, or a multi-year modest deal.

 I dont want him to come now. He is acting like he just had a pro-bowl season. |
Re: Gardner and Brown
I think Brown would be a good addition for a cheap, one year contract (a la Daryl Gardner), but I wouldnt pay him anything more than that.
As for the two 3rd rounders...personally I would like to see us use one of them to get Matt Jones, the soon-to-be stud from Arkansas. Hes huge. Hes fast. He will find a place to succeed on the team, whether at WR or at game-breaking TE. Pleeeeeeeeeeease draft him Skins! |
Re: Gardner and Brown
If we draft a WR in the first, forget about it. We already have too many!
|
Re: Gardner and Brown
Most definitely. I'd be interested to see who stays and goes if we DO get a WR in the draft.

Matt Jones himself must be logging multiple usernames to sell himself to the team and it's fans. Talk about stuffing the ballot box. Go away Matt Jones! Go away! :oink: |
Re: Gardner and Brown
Seriously... I hadn't heard his name until recently and only on this website.
|
Re: Gardner and Brown
You said it Boss. Matty, Tafkas, can we get an identity check on this one?
|
Re: Gardner and Brown
I am still amazed atthe thought of the Redskins getting a 3rd rounder for Gardner. Where do I drive him? I never would have thought the Redskins would get anything above a #4. What film were these GM's watching? Did they pull out the Clemson tape again and ignore his Redskins years?

[QUOTE=tallestskinsfanever]:lol:

Re: Gardner and Brown
he was suppose to make a choice, this monday...even after he said, I mull over the weekend and get back with you....we don't need to wait on him....under our system, he can rotate in and out, not rushing back in and gettin hurt again, but if he moves on.. then whatever happens for him here on out.......see ya

Re: Gardner and Brown
Celts, you can pick up his SUV at FedEx - he likes to leave it there...

Absolutely agree. I was surprised to hear that teams were willing to part with a 3rd rounder. Especially considering there are some really good prospects at WR in this year's draft that are looking to go in the 3rd round. Perhaps the most ironic part of all this is that the Seahawks look to be the ones most interested. The Seahawks have the worst WR corp in the NFL at dropping balls thrown right between the numbers. It's painful to watch. Do they somehow think Gardner would improve that problem? LOL |
Re: Gardner and Brown
I was thinking of the irony too. D. Jackson and K Robinson are good receivers though. Just have the dropsies~

No doubt. Infinite potential. Just lose concentration too often. Sounds like another WR we all know. |

Huh? Sorry, lost me on the they are good receivers but drop the ball bit. I thought good receivers CAUGHT the ball. I can just see it: "Well, he did dropped 15 balls but, hey, he ran a damn fine pattern each time and was wide open. Now that's one heck of a receiver." |

Imagine how good they would be if they caught it every time. |
Re: Gardner and Brown
Is there a 3rd round rookie WR that can step right in and be a solid starting #2? Maybe but it's pretty doubtful.
Plus teams are looking at Rod's potential, and maybe that one 1000 yard season that Rod supporters like to always point to. ;) A 3rd round pick is pretty fair compensation IMO. |
Re: Gardner and Brown
Most people seem to remember the bad more then they do the good. I think RG is definately worth a 3rd.
|
Re: Gardner and Brown
Matty, i dont see how you would promote any rookie 3rd rounder above patten, moss, thrash, or jacobs. Hell, jacobs was a third wasnt he. Combine that with his time in, he gets the nod.

Re: Gardner and Brown
One of the only ways the redskins could screw up an otherwise good off-season is to sign a player like Brown. Every year we make a big free agency splash, and I admit it does keep the off-season interesting, and every year we still suck! What they have done is pushed themselves into a position to finally make good decisions by making so many bad ones in the past (talking about the cap situation). So far this year we have added a solid, versatile o-lineman, a playmaking wr who came from an organzation that knows how to win and a back-up safety with starting experience who also happens to be a special teams playmaker. All three are solid, blue collar type players who can contribute without also bringing a high price tag. This is exactly what it takes to win in this league (see Patriots). Courtney Brown has never done ANYTHING! Everyone is just getting excited about his name! Signing people for their name does not seem to work for us (see George, Sanders, Trotter, Brunell, etc... the list goes on and on!). So please don't give big money to any overrated free agents.
The other way the redskins can screw this year up is if the decide to trade their draftpicks away again like the morons have done the last couple of years! |
Re: Gardner and Brown
I don't think the Brown signing would be so bad, provided the contract is centered around incentives (which WP has reported is the case). If he stinks, no skin off our backs. If he lights it up, he gets the money he wants.

Me too celts32.......let's grab that 3rd round pick and run...........imagine a third rounder for a guy that views a football as a hot potato........ Get directions and go pick the guy up and driven him to his new team........ |
Re: Gardner and Brown
Brown will end up being Denver's new found version of Darrell Gardner. This guy is looking for a deal he's unlikely to get. I think with him it's all about money so maybe it's best he does go to Denver.
Champ made him do it!!! |
Re: Gardner and Brown
courtney has alot to prove, he was the 1st pick in his draft class and hasn't lived up to the hype or pay that comes with that.
With the Skins he will do that and more, I just hope he can realize that. |
Re: Gardner and Brown
taylor jacobs was a 2nd rounder that was slated (by the skins scouts if no one elsse) as 1sst round talent.
|
Re: Gardner and Brown
The decision is being made today. I would be pissed I was Brown and the Broncos were like, "Yeah, he wants to come play here."
|
Re: Gardner and Brown
I hope he signs for Denver or Jacksonville.
I dont like the way he has been conducting this tour like he is the 2nd coming of Reggie White. He was good in college but has done nothing in the Pro's. Unless we sign him to a league minimum with incentives i don't want him. |
Re: Gardner and Brown
That Guy: Taylor Jacobs was a first round draft pick before the combine where he had the flu and put up a slow 40 time. He has great hands and speed. He's a good receiver, now I just hope he gets some playtime this year!

Yeah i agree completely. With Moss, Patten, Jacobs, Thrash we would have a good 'group' of WRs and that wouldnt allow teams to concentrate just on one guy. Kind of like what the Pats have, and they've done ok over the last few years. Throw in Cooley as well and improved line play with the return of Jansen and addition of Rabach so better protection for P-Ram and we should be set. |

Do you expect him to not look around to get the best possible deal for himself? He's trying to make money, if every player just said I want to play for the Redskins, pay me the minimum, it may be nice. That's not the case. |
