2014 draft prospects Early edition

It is such a great year in college football, use this thread to talk about your favorite players. Who would be good for the Skins. IMO the only pic in the second round is Shayne Skov ILB from Stanford.

Re: 2014 draft prospects Early edition

I hope they draft some one on the front 7 or offensive line. Maybe Will Sutton will drop, I doubt it though, Aaron Donald is another potential DT that has dominated. Hageman stands out as well. Plenty of offensive linemen to choose from as well.

Re: 2014 draft prospects Early edition

I could see Skov potentially being available in the 3rd tbh due to his lack of top end speed. Great leader though with the kind of intensity and recognition skills that would always be welcome. Definitely a great year for versatile LB’s.

Will Sutton is reported to have regressed slightly due to adding weight, as it was felt he was getting washed out of some plays last year. This has allegedly damaged his burst off the snap, and effectively taken away his best attribute. Aaron Donald is a similar player to a pre-weight gain Sutton in terms of measurables, and has been utterly dominant. His lack of preferred height is likely to push him into the 2nd, but could be a steal for whoever drafts him. Hageman then, bottom line is a 1st rounder barring unrealised character concerns or injury. He’ll be of our reach I’m afraid.

I’d personally like to see us take a dominant guard prospect in the 2nd. Gabe Jackson and Cyril Richardson are likely to be gone by the time we pick first, but David Yankey (Stanford) looks very intriguing. He’s having a terrific year supposedly and has really improved his pass protection. Has the agility by all accounts for a zone-blocking scheme (if Shanny is still around), but also enough necessary strength for a power-blocking scheme (if it’s all change with the coaching staff). Should also mention he can play tackle if necessary. That said, if say Donald is the pick then I would have no issue at all.

Re: 2014 draft prospects Early edition

Sutton struggled at the beginning of the year but returned to form after a few games. Probably needed to adjust to adding 30 pounds. If I drafted him I would ask him to lose 10 or 15 pounds because he is special.
Hageman is more of a wish than anything. He is similar to last years Sheldon Richardson but I can always hope he drops. I hope they either go Oline or defensive front. Both those sides need talent.

He did? Fair play. Any of the draft sites I’ve read suggest he’s definitely suited more to his 2012 weight so maybe it’s likely he gets encouraged to shed the extra pounds, and simply get back into the shape that allows him to do what he did so well.

I agree on the defensive front. Besides Cofield, I don’t see anyone making anywhere near enough plays. And maybe we will indeed get lucky with say Hageman. Every year there seems to be players who drop to opportunistic teams. We definitely need to start hitting on the picks we do have though.

Re: 2014 draft prospects Early edition

If we went offense I hope we get either a quality Guard or Allen Robinson of PSU.

Later round pick L'Damian Washington from Mizzou.
6'4 with 4:3 speed project 3 or 4th rounder.

Dream Draft at this point...

Round 2: Shayne Skov ILB Stanford - Ideal replacement for Fletcher

Round 3: Anthony Steen G Alabama- Quick guard from a pro-style juggernaut school.

Round 4: L' Damian Washington WR Mizzou- 6'4, 4.3 speed

Round 5: Dri Archer WR/RB/PR Kent State- Darren Sproles meets Dexter McCluster

Round 6: Dexter McDougle CB Maryland- Solid corner hurt early this season

Round 7: Kirby Van der Kamp P Iowa State- Sav needs to go.

Drafting a punter in the past has been bad juju. Anyone remember Durant Brooks?

...Exactly.

^Lol How many 7th round picks are still on the Redskins roster... Lets see Rob Jackson, Chris Nield, and Richard Crawford. Sav Rocca's net average yards per punt is 34.7, 61 punts with a total 2535 yards. That is terrible.

Van der Kamp's current net average yards is 41.6, a total of 84 punts with 3493 yards. Go ask RG3 and the defense if field position means anything.

My buddies Godson. Shayne's parents moved to Guadalajara, Mexico to help his mother's health (suffers from MS). He learn to play football of all places Mexico. He is a good kid and a badass. Would love him on a skins uniform.

Interestingly enough, the Jacksonville Jaguars used the 70th pick in the 2012 draft on Bryan Anger, a punter out of Cal... A couple of picks later the Seahawks selected a QB named Russell Wilson. Just an interesting fact I found today.

We need help all over. I'd be fine with any pick that plays LG, C, RG, RT, WR, CB,or ILB.

I hope we go WR w/ our first pick: either Mike Adams or Sammy Watkins. (One of them could make it to Round Two, right?) We need a deep threat desperately. Aldrick is a joke. Please surround RGIII w/ some weapons.

No way, draft OL and front 7 on D the whole damn draft. Can sign WR and secondary help in FA.

Yes! We need a Doug Baldwin and Jermaine Kearse on our team. Clearly they are the reason Russell Wilson is so good. It's all about the weapons and those guys are some of the best of all time! Their Tight End is amazing too. What's his name again?

LMAO The way RGIII won't pull the trigger unless his receivers have five yards of separation. We need WRs who can get college-open. SMH

Watch the video on these two guys. I don't know how to post videos otherwise I would...
L' Damian Washington

It is hard to find vids on Washington because Mizzou control the media released on their players. If you want to see him watch the SEC championship vs. Auburn.

Dri Archer

If L'Daimian Washington is available in the 4th, I would absolutely draft him. He's a heck of a speedster with great hands, nice size, and potential. With our first pick, I'm hoping we take the best non-LT offensive lineman available. Protecting RG3 and giving him more weapons have to be the priority; hopefully, we go heavy on offensive linemen and WRs.

I know how Shanny likes to package players. I really like these two guys.

Iowa 6'7", 265 pounds TE CJ Fiedorowicz. Our very own Graham.

Iowa ILB James Morris. Guy reminds me of Sean Lee

Baylor Tevin Reese. Played two years with RG3.

Re: 2014 draft prospects Early edition

Let's see - #1 rushing offense, 7th in total YPG... 27th passing defense. Right let's draft offensive weapons.

On board with the Skov train. If Sunseri skips his senior year I think he'd be a nice pick up with a mid-late rounder, ACL considered.

^ believe the hype that Shanny feeds you. #1 rushing offense, #7 YPG, #19 in scoring. The offense is not as good as you think.

We need players and difference makers, not just warm bodies.

They need players that can block and that can get off blocks. That's my opinion right now.

I would say the skins need players almost ecerywhere on the team. But linemen are more essential to a teams success than offensive weapons in my opinion.

Re: 2014 draft prospects Early edition

Upcoming draft probably need to go DE or DT (depending on if we switch to 4-3), RT, and WR. Best available from those positions first 3 picks. Then look ILB, Guard, WR there after.

Kinda sad Shanny and Bruce busted out of all Olineman draft wise cept for Silverback and all WRs. Kinda pathetic

If a good defensive back falls to us in the late rounds, that would be great. But we have 3 talented young players in the secondary right now that will only improve with time. Looking longterm, offensive linemen need to be the priority. And giving RG3 more legitimate receivers would improve the offense greatly.

I agree we need those type of players. We also need coaches that can develop those players and I'm not a fan of Chris Foerester

It's certainly better off than the defense is.

Assuming we're talking Amerson, Rambo, Thomas - I only have a lick of legitimate optimism for one of them at this point (Amerson). Not saying that can't change, but that's just where I'm at.

I'm cool with drafting O-line as well, but I just don't think our need at WR outweighs our needs at RT, G/C, MLB, & DB.
