Mike Shanahan was Ready to Leave Washington after 2012 Season

I don't have a strong opinion on either the validity or impact of this article, so I'm just going to leave it here for Gameday reading. Beat the Chiefs, PLZ.

Re: Mike Shanahan was Ready to Leave Washington after 2012 Season

There is probably some truth to this story. It is well known that Snyder likes to pal around with certain players. To me it is so unprofessional for the owner to do such things. From what I've heard, Snyder was the one wanting RG3 to play the first few weeks, while Shanahan wanted to hold him out.

SPONTANEOUS STRONG EMOTIONAL OPINION ALERT

No sympathy here from me for Shanahan. The owner was a known farce when you accepted the job, a job you accepted because 1) it paid more, and 2) you thought it would be easier to win, than the other jobs would be out here. Then you go and trade for a star quarterback and are SHOCKED when the owner (who has a history of doing this) buddies up to him.

Just leave, Mike Shanahan. Don't ever come back.

I think if Shanny is not fired after the season ends he will leave... He will not get an extension...

I believe this story. See past examples Clinton Portis and Lavar Arrington.

RG3 better realize that Snyder will turn on him just as quick.

True but what if it was Snyder that was pushing for the trade? Rumors keep popping up that Shanahan wanted Tannehill and keep the picks.

skinsfaninok 12-08-2013 11:01 AM

Mike is done here and that was obvious after the whole off season RG3 tension going around. Honestly it doesn't surprise me , this organization is a joke and always has some stupid drama going on smh

[quote=skinsfan69;1046483]True but what if it was Snyder that was pushing for the trade? He had to win in 2012 or not only would he have lost his job here, he wouldn't have found anyone else willing to offer.

Given that he sees himself as still employable in the NFL, I think he should be really thankful he got that trade done. Saved his career. Meanwhile, the jury is still out on the quality of the trade for the Redskins organization. Shanahan won it personally when he won the NFC East.

Speaking of f-ing farces: It takes five years to rebuild a team. Unless I decide theres something I don't like in the organization after year three. Then it can't be salvaged.

What a loser.

Re: Mike Shanahan was Ready to Leave Washington after 2012 Season

@russellmania980 As for the whole cleaning out the office thing before the Seattle game, I would be stunned. I saw no evidence of that in any way. #Redskins

1) While somewhat annoying at times, I tend to like Chris Russells reporting. I'm calling BS on this one that he was ready to leave that week and cleaned out his locker. Say what you will about Mike Shannahan, but he's professional, had the hottest team in the NFL at that point and was going into the playoffs. I don't think he was gingerly cleaning out his office so he could leave after the game.

2) This is the NFL, I'm sorry but some guys are just going to be treated differently than others. Who gives a shit if Snyder sent out security with Rg3? He IS a star. 80% of the team if you passed them in the mall most wouldn't even know who they were. Rg3 would be mobbed and isn't exactly a huge dude to take care of himself either.

3) For the Snyder said "nothing to Cousins after the Browns game" I'm calling BS on that one too. Snyder, first an foremost is a huge Redskins fan, I find it hard to believe he would go into the locker room post game on a 4 game win streak and not say congrats to a QB who just had a great game. Maybe after the Ravens game; to see the status of RG3 but I'm sorry, just don't buy it.

This report, just like the "RG3 doesn't want bad plays" report just reeks of BS to me. I mean I have no clue one way or another; but it just seems so far out there that I can't believe it.

I will say, I believe when there is smoke there is fire, and I'm not stupid enough to think things are all good at Redskins Park, and I think Shanny is gone after this season; but I don't really buy into this one.

When we are 8-8 or better for more that one year, this team is garbage and is surrounded by garbage. It's getting harder and harder to be a fan of this team.

All of this drama seems to center around one person, RG3. He's become biggger than the team. It's like to damn soap opera. The players have to be so sick of this shit.

This reeks of a Shanahan camp plant. Give a reason for Snyder to make a move or a cover for him to negotiate his way out of town. I was in favor of and a defender of Shanahan for his tenure but he's a bit of a drama queen as well.

The Snyder angle has some merit, I'm sure. He's a fan boy til the end so it's not surprising but I'm not buying everything in the story as pure fact.

Feels like high school sometimes:

In one corner you have, bitchy, gum popping, hair twirling girl! (Shanny)
In the other corner, you have, strong independent woman who speaks broken English (Snyder)

Fight to the death over:

Oblivious, boyfriend who doesn't care and acts like he has more important things to care about (RG3)

Ready... Fight!

All I'm saying is it's always a story about him that makes it's way out of Redskin Park. Why? Every week it's something. Everyone over there needs to STFU, not go 3 quarters w/out scoring a damn point and win a game.

I stated this back when it came apparent that Snyder was being buddy buddy with RGIII that it would not end well. I'm sick and fucking tired of Snyder. I don't give a fuck who's he's been pals with in the past, or what other owners have been friends with their star QB. Why can't this assclown just go away and sit in the booth and stay out of the way of the players and coaches? How fucking hard is it to sit back and collect truck tons of money?

Snyder is why we can't have nice things. He always finds a way to fuck things up.

And then what? New coach, same bs from owner, same results, new coach in 3 to 4 years.. Over, and over again. I've come to conclusion it doesn't matter who the coach is. When you have an owner that acts like this you will never win.. I hate Synder!!

Shanahan is covering his bases for when he's likely asked to leave or agree to essentially unagreeable conditions to stick around

The Snyder-RG3 relationship is being blown out of proportion. But yeah, I'm sure he does get a bit more of an open door policy as most of the rest of the team. Happens everywhere, but I'm sure Shanahan is more sensitive to it it because he had these same issues in Denver with Pat Bowlen and John Elway

Kyle, not Mike, is really the one who wanted out. And it's Kyle, not Mike, that really has the issue with Snyder

As for the Tannehill rumor, all Shanahan said was he'd happy with taking Tannehill at 6 if a trade could not be made

I posted this question on Extremeskins.com, "Shannahan and Pete Carroll were hired within in days of one another, who's done a better job building their roster and why, plus name one position we're better at compared to Seattle". Of-course there were a lot of excuses.

I'm sure Shanahan is making these comments, and equally sure it's only to distract from his own failures. Aside from a brief stint in Denver where he was given the keys to a SB caliber team Mike has been an utter failure as an HC (Oakland and DC).

Shanahan will say anything to cover his ass. He's trying to downplay his failures. It's that simple.

Time to remove the poison from the body.
