Cousins Open to Trade.

According to cbssports.com:

"According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, Cousins is "open" to a trade out of Washington.

It's not a massive surprise, mainly because Robert Griffin III is the starting quarterback for Washington and Cousins, like most quarterbacks, wants to play and wants to start.

CBS Sports NFL Insider Jason La Canfora believes if a deal was something the Redskins worked on with another team, it could likely occur around the 2013 NFL Combine. That's certainly what Cousins would prefer, since it would give him ample time to get prepared with his new team and spend a full offseason wherever he theoretically lands.

It would also give the Redskins (in theory) draft picks in the 2013 NFL Draft, something they sorely need, with their No. 2 overall pick going to the Rams.

According to La Canfora, the idea of landing a second-round pick (much less a first) isn't something that looks likely to happen at this point. Much more likely is a mid-round pick with the potential to move up depending on performance.

Cousins had a very strong relationship with Kyle Shanahan, who's returning from a Caribbean vacation on Monday and is set to become the Browns offensive coordinator when he returns."
_________________________________________________________________

Looks like Schefter continues to act as a mouthpiece for the Shanahans. I feel certain that Kyle Shanahan will ask the Browns to trade for Cousins.

I also see that Jason LaCanfora continues in his role as The Clown by suggesting that the Skins would trade Cousins for a conditional mid-round pick. There is no way that the Skins are going to trade Cousins for less than a high second round pick, IMO. Also, if the Skins think that Kyle and the Browns want Cousins bad enough, they may insist on a lower round pick or a player in the deal, as well.

I might as well predict something here. I'll say that if the Skins decide to deal Cousins to Cleveland, they will be able to get a high second round pick and they will swap one or more lower round picks with Cleveland as part of the deal, receiving earlier picks in return.

Re: Cousins Open to Trade.

Should have traded him after 2012 when he had higher value. Like most young quarterbacks these days that looked great in their first few games or season, he regressed badly as defensive coordinators familiarized themselves with him
and exploited his weaknesses. There are teams out there where he wouldn't even be a #2 right now, and I wouldn't call him a starter anywhere. I can't see him being worth more than a 6th rounder, but that is my opinion.

Re: Cousins Open to Trade.

There are always plenty of teams in need of a QB. I don't think his play this year hurt his value in the long run at all. All it takes is one team and with Kyle in Cleveland they could be that team if he feels strongly enough about Cousins.

Fine with me....we need more picks.
I'd settle for a third round but a second would be nice.
We can get a couple UDFA QBs after the draft.

I think a 4th is the best they could get for KC.

Pat White.

No but really, I wouldn't mind Josh McCown, since he blew up with the Bears. I don't mind an older vet stepping in. Preferably though, unless we get a 2nd or at bare minimum a 3rd rounder for Cousins, I'd rather we just hold onto him again.

I really don't want Vick and I feel like he could start for a team that's hurting for a QB (Jags, Raiders, Vikes, etc)

Re: Cousins Open to Trade.

RG3 is coming off a bad year with two major knee operations. I wouldn't get rid of a quality young back up for a 3rd or 4th rounder. What if RG3 twists his knee in training camp? Then what? Is that 3rd or 4th rounder going to be worth it? If Clev offers a proven player then I'd listen.

Tend to agree, they might be able to swing a 3rd. I would keep him as insurance for another year and trade him next year for whatever they can get.

It takes more than one team to drive the price up. If there is only one bidder the price will stay low. Alex Smith went for a 2nd rounder and a conditional pick after having a passer rating over 100 in the season before he was traded. Considering that how could anyone think Cousins is worth as high as a second?
Cousins was great in two 2012 starts, he was terrible in 2013, your last impression is what counts.

The Saints should try to get Kirk. Let him learn under Drew Brees for 3 years, then let him take over. He is not ready to start IMO.

there will be no trade value after this upcoming season for KC. He'll be in the fourth yr of his deal. With a fourth rd pick there may not be a team option for the fifth yr., wait a yr and he's a FA or restricted FA, giving no bargaining power to the team.

What warrants that type of investment in Kirk?

This has Shanny leak written all over it.

Kyle gets the Browns OC job and all of a sudden Kirk is open to a trade?? Even Cousins' reps had to put out a statement saying he had not requested a trade from the Redskins.

I'm open to trading Cousins, but what ever the market price, I would charge double to the Browns. Fck Kyle Shanahan.

Re: Cousins Open to Trade.

I think this "news" is nothing more than people putting 2 + 2 together. Unless Kyle got a job where there was already an established starter, there was bound to be Cousins trade rumors.

Kirk has always been open to going wherever he can play.

Lotus 02-03-2014 02:52 PM

Re: Cousins Open to Trade.

Also this "news" that Cousins is open to a trade is not groundbreaking. Would anyone be surprised to hear that he might want to go someplace where he might start?
What warrants that type of investment in Kirk?
Kirk has a quick delivery and if he learned from a player like Drew and a coach like Sean Payton it would be a sound investment from New Orleans point of view.

With Kirk, you know that you will get his 110% everyday.

Re: Cousins Open to Trade.

I'd take a 2nd, or a top half of the third.

After that, what are you really getting? You have a guy who has proven he can step in and at least perform if RG3 goes down.

If we're getting a 4th or later; were basically just getting what we gave up for him (4th round pick), and I say its not worth it and let him stay here as the back up.

That said; if anyone offers a second I'm taking that in a heartbeat.

That is what I thought when I read the article. If Kyle wants Cousins badly enough and he can convince his bosses to make the deal, then there doesn't need to be a bidding war for us to get our price.

Here's the key: We can speculate on how much Kyle wants Cousins, but Bruce Allen probably knows how much Kyle wants him. The advantage goes to the Redskins.

The Browns have two first round picks, a high second rounder, two third round picks, and others. They could easily do the deal if they want to.

On the other hand, Kyle doesn't call the shots in Cleveland. They are also in a position to be able to draft a top-rated college QB, if they decide to do that.

Either way, I don't believe that the Skins will trade Cousins unless they get their price, whatever that may be.

of course Kirk wouldn't mind a trade .... that being said I don't think we are going to get anything close to what people are saying .... and hate to break to everyone but we have a QB that is high risk to injury .. backup qBs are valuable and we have a good one .. i think we hang on to him for now

I guess the definition of good is open to interpretation. There were only a handful of quarterbacks that actually started multiple games last season that were worse than Cousins; including the likes of Jeff Tuel, Matt Barkley, and Blaine Gabbert.

If the Redskins can swindle anyone out of anything higher than a 4th, I'm all for it.

Buffalo Bob 02-04-2014 09:13 AM

Re: Cousins Open to Trade.

I think the people talking getting a 2nd-4th are projecting NFL teams think 2012 was the real Kirk Cousins. The 2013 Kirk Cousins wasn't good enough to start for anybody who wasn't desperate and would go for a 6th or 7th.

MTK 02-04-2014 09:31 AM

Re: Cousins Open to Trade.

Teams are going to trade for him based on what they feel his potential is, not based on 3 starts on a 3-13 disaster of a team.

I'd do a straight up trade with the Browns for Josh Gordon/Kirk Cousins.
Hell I'd even throw in a 4th rounder.
