Champ gets his wish, finally
Broncos to give Bailey a shot at WR, how do you think it will work out?
Broncos' cornerback Champ Bailey has repeatedly expressed his desire to play on both sides of the ball, and it appears that his head coach is going to take him up on the offer. "That will be a big part of what Champ does in the offseason," Broncos' head coach Mike Shanahan is quoted as saying in Sunday's Denver Post. "We're going to see what he can do…to work some as a receiver. That speed of his makes it really appealing." Bailey had one reception for 11 yards last year, and recorded three previous receptions in his five-year career. |
Re: Champ gets his wish, finally
I think it's a good idea. Problem is he may not be able to play CB as well with the energy he'll lose. I think he'd make a good slot guy!

Re: Champ gets his wish, finally
I think it will work out pretty well for Denver. I was at the Cardinals game a few years back when Bailey scored a TD on a reverse (I think) while playing WR. Champ is a great football player plane out.
If I am not mistaken Deon played pretty well for the Cowboys at WR. I know when he was on the Redskins in Madden 2001 I used to put him at WR with great success. :cool-smil |
Re: Champ gets his wish, finally
just wait till a big ass linebacker levels him and breaks him in half. bailey is built like a CB, not a WR. hes not meant to take crunching hits from someone like a ray lewis or keith brooking. if he plays reciever, they better make sure he doesnt go across the middle or he'll be injured in a heartbeat

Yeah at 6-2, 192...he's not built like Isaac Bruce (6-0, 188), Torry Holt (6-0, 190), Marvin Harrison (6-0, 175), Chad Johnson (6-1, 192), or Donald Driver (6-0, 192). There are reasons why I don't think that Champ should play WR. However, being that I just named 5 1,000 yard wide receivers who are his size, I don't think his size is one of them. |
Re: Champ gets his wish, finally
I hope Taylor crushes him in the near future.

Re: Champ gets his wish, finally
I'm sorry, but as good as Bailey is at CB, I don't think he'll play WR well. Although Bailey played WR for the Bulldogs, I think his hands are suspect and it won't work out for the Broncos.

Re: Champ gets his wish, finally
remember we play his ass this year and arrington and taylor are gonna kick that ass. i think he will have to sit WR out that game he'll get to tired chasing patten and moss up and down the field then having to line up against the man who took his number and his place. WOOOOO
Otherwise... he should do well considering he has seen first hand how to catch a ball deep from all them WR that smoked his arse this year |
Re: Champ gets his wish, finally
u kno wut i dnt care how he does at WR i jst wanna see his ass get KNOCKED OUT......we here in DC or ne where else treated him great we all liked him.....he goes nd says hes unhappy here nd seeks a trade.........same with smoot this whole thing about playing football for passion is a bunch of BULLLSHIT....EVERYONE IS AFTER THE MONEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...........the only person i can see actually staying by his word to stay with his team is RAY LEWIS.......i remember in the middle of the season wen people were actually aknowledging pierce he said" i love DC nd i dnt wanna' go anywhere else" well look at him now he left for somewhere else for couple 1000 more which we all know is nothing!!!!

Re: Champ gets his wish, finally
Well to be honest the players should hold no loyalty to the fans... we're fans of a uniform... an emblem... if joe gibbs came back and coached the cowboys how many people would follow him. None i hope. Players & coaches have to look out for whats best for them first. Granted there are players with enough character to stay on teams they love for less money (bruschi), but you really only get that with consistantly winning teams. Once someone starts waving millions of dollars in everyone else's face, their loalties will tend to change.
Having said that, it would be wonderful to see the chump play WR against his former team and try to do something cocky only to catch a forearm to the face (like TO) from the player who invented a position... the free linebacker (which was the highlight of my entire season). Just understand, im not siding with the players who've left, i wish the $#!+ talkers of them nothing but the worst, but i can certainly understand from an objective standpoint how a player can change their mind about a team with a consistant losing record that wont kiss their ass like they've done so many other players in the past. |
Re: Champ gets his wish, finally
Smoot and Pierce haven't said a single bad thing about the Redskins organization.
|
Re: Champ gets his wish, finally
Whenever we gave him the chance he was alway's bobbling the ball, he was supposed to be a real threat on punt returns and he couldn't even get his body in position to make a clean catch he fumbled almost every punt he handled, personally I don't see the insticnt in him for WR he really doesn't have a natural instinct at CB he relies on his physical superiority to overcome his lack of instinct. Yes Deion did fairly well for the cowboys but let's not get ridiculous here and compare Champ's abilities to Deion's, regardless of how much we may not like the guy theres no comparison!

Re: Champ gets his wish, finally
I really don't care what Champ is doing, and add Pierce and Smoot to that list now.
Best of luck to them, but I really don't care what they do if they're not wearing a Redskins uniform. |

That said, I think if anyone can do it physically, Champ can (although I'm not sold on his natural WR abilities). As for desire?........after a hit or two from a safety like Taylor or Reed we'll see how much he's bugging his coach to put him in. |
Re: Champ gets his wish, finally
I am not into trashing former Redskins after they leave, but this guy is on my last nerve. I don't begrudge any player the opportunity to leave if the money is better elsewhere, but there is no need to actively slander the Redskins to other players around the league. All the Redskins did for Bailey was draft him in the top 10 and make him a millionair. How did they wrong him? I am sick of his attitude. And also he had a terrible season last year...every time I flipped my NFL Sunday Ticket clicker last season it seemed like he was giving up another TD...
So let him play WR..fu*k him. I am sure as soon as he catches a TD we will here him chirp about how Washington never let him play there. Fuc*ing crybaby... |
Re: Champ gets his wish, finally
I think part of what is going on here is that the Broncoes are realizing that they dropped 60 million on a guy who is not the "shutdown corner" they were promised. Given that he's gonna be there for several more years, I think Shannahan is trying to extract a little more value out of the guy.

at least until he gets injured... seriously though, how can he be fresh for CB duties after running all over the field on offense? |
