We're already at about 7 inches, not supposed to stop until tonight. I just gone done shoveling my driveway before my boss texted me to tell me we're closed today lol. Well at least I accomplished something today.

The news just said we've got about a foot here in Ellicott City MD. I'm in a second floor condo and don't feel like venturing out at the moment, so it's hard to say for sure, but it looks to me up over the curbs and most of the tires out in the parking lot.
Looking at the news right now and they're still saying I'm right on the 8"-17" line... JEEBUS!!!

19 inches of snow and counting in Winchester, VA. The first band of snow has stopped, but it has picked back up again and the 2nd band might bring us 6-10 more inches before finally being done this evening. We do have another clipper that is supposed to hit on Saturday night - might do 3 more inches or so....

About 6-8 inches or so in NE DC, right between Takoma Park and Hyattsville. It's actually starting to melt a little. Gonna need that other system to head through.

That's NC for you bro....lol

Fuckers just parked in the medium and walked home. I have a few friends I know traveling from Chapel Hill to Raleigh that ended up walking the last couple miles because they were walking faster than they were moving in the cars. Another girl I know spent 6 hours in her car....lol

I think fuckers were trying to go up that hill that was covered with ice and it didn't work so well.

Re: Snow totals?

Also note that it isn't just snow that we got. We got a layer of pure ice as well. I mean, cars couldn't even get up that slight hill due to the ice. Cars around here aren't equipped to deal with the terrain in these situations. (snow tires/chains) Hell, not sure our municipalities are really equipped as well.

Some good comments and insight from other northerners living in NC.

yeah we did get that pure ice, luckily for me I have snow tires on my SUV that I only keep for reasons like this.

Slow and steady wins the race when driving on snow/ice. I guess folks who aren't used to it think you have to gun it to go anywhere. That's how you end up off the road or overheating your engine to the point where it blows up lol.

that happened to one of my employees after I told her not to do that, and she calls me and first thing she says "You were right," SMH.

Re: Snow totals?

Looks like 6 inches, I measured it with a ruler in Beaverdam, Virginia. I am 40 miles Northeast of Richmond. Six inches is about the max I can take and get out. I have a single wheel drive Chevy Tahoe that sucks in the mud and snow even with nice tires. I live on a dirt, gravel road and almost 2 miles from the nearest plowed road. Also with neighbors few and far between some of the roads may only see a few cars a day.

Most around here got the "slow" part down, It's the "and steady" part that seems to confuse so many. I can't tell you how many times I have seen folks come to a stop before making a turn to uphill or start to slip and hit the breaks. Well, thanks. You have just effectively made yourself a roadblock.

We have about 8-10 (I think) lots of drifting making it up at 14-16 inches in places

Assuming you live somewhere in MD, we're supposed to get more in a few hours. Though I don't know how much more in DC, it warmed up a little bit and started to melt.

Then another system Friday night into Saturday.

...Then it's supposed to be in the 60's next week. :Smoker:

We got 14 inches of snow in Columbia, then it started to rain. So it was a race against the rain while shoveling, because I didn't want the snow to get heavier with the rain.

How much snow where I live? Zero inches. Zero f****** inches.

BDBohnzie 02-13-2014 03:42 PM

Re: Snow totals?

18-20 inches is a good guess. I didn't measure before I started shoveling. The drift between my vehicles was between 3-4 foot tall. Took me about 2.5 hours to clear it all in front of my house (townhouse), clear off the vehicles and the parking spots. Sounds like we'll get another 3-6 inches tonight. As long as I can head down to the shore over the weekend for much needed R&R, I'll gladly move some more if I need to.

RedskinRat 02-13-2014 03:46 PM

We have drought conditions here, just about to go from three to two showers a day. Oh, the humanity!

Ahhhhhhhh shit!!! Montgomery County schools are cancelled tomorrow, meaning the JV county wrestling tournament I was supposed to referee on Saturday is probably going to get bumped for basketball, and they most likely won't reschedule.

2nd band of snow i mentioned earlier has just moved in. Very heavy snow now. I don't know how long we will have this 2nd, "mini storm", but at this rate it looks like it could do an inch an hour. Stuck a tape measure beside driveway again and it is just over 21 inches...

Re: Snow totals?

yeah, just finished shoveling 14" of snow... it was dry, but the light/constant rain started to weigh it down a bit.

now it's snowing again (3-4" they say), but this is the heavy slushie stuff that'll ice up on you.

NoVA's handled plowing/snow removal really well since the one year (2003?) where they basically cancelled half the school year.

See even in in va we don't have that situation really. It's called pretreating and just about everyone north of NC does it because we have to. It keeps that hill from becoming a luge track. NC isn't prepared for such activities since they need it so infrequently.

Came into work this morning, they did a really good job on the highways and main roads but my neighborhood/side roads are all terrible, just covered with ice everywhere. Hopefully it warms up during the day and melts this layer of ice off.

Re: Snow totals?

our 2nd snow fall was the slushie kind (bad), but it must have been warm enough to rain, cause there was only 1/2" or so when i woke up, which is pretty forgettable.
