We should trade up to get him. |
Re: 2014 Combine
Would you trade RG3 for Johnny Cakes oopes I mean Johnny Football straight up?
|
Re: 2014 Combine
Looking at the mock drafts I see the bread and butter players will be gone by the time we draft. The NT's DT's OT's pass rushers, Cb's. So Unless we move up I suggest we grab one of those top 5 receivers (including tight ends).

no, Robert's intangibles like character make him far better prospect. |

Hokies fans will like this. One thing Va Tech does is put out secondary players and Fuller is is pretty damn good. I think he's better than Hosley and Flowers were at this same point in their college careers, but probably isnt as fast and explosive as D Hall was coming out of Tech. |
Re: 2014 Combine
Kendall Fuller is going to be even better when he comes out. Kyle was really good as well. Both against the pass AND the run.

Re: 2014 Combine
Although we won't see for several years, we are about to see how good our Scouting Team (A.J. Smith & Brown) is/are. I see us trading back from 34th and picking up more picks.

Not if someone we really want falls to us in that position. It happens sometimes. |

You are so right, but this IMO is how they make there money trade back pick up more good/great players diamonds in the rough. The 34th pick is basically a 1st round pick without the 5yr. |

That is true about the contract and salary cap advantages of the high 2nd round pick vs. a late 1st round pick. Still, it could work both ways for the Skins. By that I mean they could take advantage of that position to move up as well as to move down. A team that would rather be at #34 than in the late 1st round might not ask for very much in a trade. So, if the Skins have a player they rate highly in their sights who is still available in the late 1st round, they may be able to move up, as well, at a reasonable cost. If they were to trade down, I wouldn't want them to trade down any further than the mid-to-late 2nd round. Also, if there is a difference maker on the board at #34, I hope the Skins will take him. |
Re: 2014 Combine
Does anybody know who the mutherf$ck@n Skins are interviewing at this combine?

Re: 2014 Combine
A lot of scouting reports that i have seen knock Jordan Matthews for a lack of speed.
I guess his 4.43 will change that tune. |

My boy Dri Archer 4.29 40. I also like Jerick McKinnon. Straight athletes!!!

Re: 2014 Combine
Forget the QB, Houston, take Clowney.
|
Re: 2014 Combine
^ It doesn't matter how fast you are when you take a play off.
Despite his immense talent, I would not take Clowney #1. My two cents. |
Re: 2014 Combine
That's just crazy fast for someone Clowney's size. Can't deny his talent, his ceiling is sky high.
|
Re: 2014 Combine
Houston is a Qb and a DB or two away from being a deep playoff team. They already have several good LB's. While Clowney is a monster, it would be a luxury pick. There are some good Qb's in this draft that merit being picked in the top 3 or 4. When need meets best player available, you go with it.

You don't know that. It all depends on how teams rank or evaluate these QBs for the NFL level. Remember how people hyped up Jimmy Clausen and Geno Smith? |
Re: 2014 Combine
You can always snag a QB later on or in FA. With the #1 pick you want the best player on the board period.
|
Re: 2014 Combine
Problem is T Bridgewater. When I saw him play 2-3 times this year I said, best player in the country period head shoulders above Manziel based on my eyes. When I saw Clowney play, I barely heard his name called. Disappearing act. He just didnt show.

I think Clowney was pretty much mentally checked out last year. Can't blame him but it's a concern that I'm sure teams are asking him about. |
Re: 2014 Combine
I mean I can blame him, but he is an amazing talent. Will he check out again once he gets that paycheck?...thats the concern
Him and Watt on the field would be amazing to see, IF he plays to his potential |

My second team is Houston, and I'm hoping like heck they take Bridgewater. He is going to be an outstanding NFL QB. Greg Robinson is the only other player worth first overall, IMO, and they already have Duane Brown. Clowney will be a great player, but I don't know how wise it would be to be paying both Watt and Clowney on just the D-line in 5 years. |

I disagree and this is why Houston should not draft him. He almost looked like he quit on his teammates. What's he going to do when things get tough in pro ball? I think Clowney plays football because he's great at it, not because he loves it. Bridgewater is a great player, a smart player, who has his head on right and seems to love football, plus he plays QB. Houston should take Bridgewater. |
Re: 2014 Combine
I wonder if we had our number 2 pick would we let rak walk and draft Clowney, or would be drafting another position?

I'm with you. That's why I would take Bridgewater if I were Houston. |

Why let Rak walk? They play different positions, for now. Clowney plays DE and he'd be on a cheaper rookie contract for a few years. In 4 years, he'll really be expensive. |
Re: 2014 Combine
I wouldn't touch Clowney. He has bust written all over him. You need to be spending high draft picks on guys who care and put the effort in. All indications are that he doesn't and won't.

Re: 2014 Combine
The Redskins are supposedly showing interest in Cyril Richardson. I don't know if they're showing this much interest to all potential picks at #34, or if they really like him. I like the idea of Richardson blocking between Trent Williams and Montgomery/veteran upgrade, though.

Me too. But here is the way that Cinci's receiver corps was built: Tyler Eifert 1st round Jermaine Gresham 1st A.J. Green 1st Mohamed Sanu 3rd Marvin Jones 5th Andrew Hawkins UDFA I realize that Gruden did not have final say in Cinci but Mayock says that Cinci coaches are heavily involved in the draft. Given this, and given that this draft is heavy at the top with receivers, I find it hard to believe that we won't use our first pick on a receiver. |
