DeSean Jackson meeting with the Redskins on Monday

@john_keim: Yes, NFL source confirms that DeSean Jackson will visit Redskins Monday as @NBCdianna 1st reported.

He'll want a ton of $$$. And then a day after signing the contract he will begin demanding more.

Great player but a headache.

I'm all for it IF we can get him at the right price and curtail his behaviour

Re: DeSean Jackson meeting with the Redskins on Monday

I'm so far the first person to vote definitely no. I think the organization has taken great strides in trying to eliminate the belief that we are one of the teams to take in the troubled players and the ones with serious character flaws.

It might be another misunderstanding, or he may be another Aaron Hernandez. I have a bad feeling that in the coming days / weeks, more info about Jackson's gang activities will come to light.

Pass, not worth the drama/baggage.

Re: DeSean Jackson meeting with the Redskins on Monday

I put for the vet minimum since there is no option for only 1 year. I dont care if we spend more than 1 mil on him, but dont want to see a 5 or 6 year contract. Unless someone is offering a huge contract, it may be better off for him to sign a short term deal this year and hit FA when teams have plenty to spend next year so he may be willing to do that.

I vote to sign him. I would love to see our offense with in it. Get it done BA!

Re: DeSean Jackson meeting with the Redskins on Monday

Am I the only one that would be ecstatic about this. He would make our offense so dynamic. He'd be rg3's new Kendall wright from college. Put some clauses in the contract that he can void and we lose nothing if any of these reports about gang affiliation are true. If we do this we no longer need to worry about taking Jordan Matthews or Benjamin at 34 and can draft a big wr in round 3 or 4 then at 34 we can take best player available whether it be Jimmie ward, Ryan shazier, or a right tackle. If our next month and a half worked out like that I'd be so pumped lol

This is the only big signing I would not be opposed to... The kid grew up in the hood, and has hood friends... He has never been even remotely indicated in any crime his friends might have been involved with... It will cost money, but he would vastly improve our offense... Our image will always be FUBAR with our name, so if he actually isn't involved in criminal activities but still associates with those that do, I don't care... I do know he will have over 1200 yards with 10+ TD's....

They should pay him more than Pierre Garçon and then stand back and watch the team chemistry burst like puss from a 2 week old back zit.

Absolutely not. Im in the Philly area, and can not express how much I dislike this guy. He may be able to ball...but he turns it off whenever he gets attitude. Keep this clown away from our circus!!!

1. Teams don't win Super Bowls because of high-priced Wide Receivers
2. A bidding war between the Redskins and Raiders. Nuff said.
3. Ex-Eagles in Washington (after the 70's)
4. He's a straight up thug who dropped the ball at the 1 yard line twice.

That might work if no on else was interested in him. If he's willing to take less and/or an incentive-laden contract just for the opportunity to stick it to his former team twice a year, then maybe. Otherwise, pass.

skinsfaninok 03-29-2014 09:48 PM

Hell yes we need to sign him. Sorry folks but he's a beast on the field and maybe a change of teams would help him

True, but it is just ONE guy. It's not like we've been throwing our money away. We've played conservative all FA so far.

As long as we don't break the bank, I think 1 splashy signing per season isn't horrible.

Plus, you're using that word thug...

The guy's not a thug. Is he arrogant and possibly a dickhead? Definitely. Thug... Not so much. Especially since there's no link to definite gang activity.

Aaron Hernandez. Now there's a thug.

I know. My Facebook feed is going crazy with that. And that may be true at the moment. But when one of them blows a play, I think you may potentially see a situation develop.

Then I guess Sean Taylor was a thug too..a lot of people called him that also when he played. The guy definitely has some work ethic issues, also the Raiders can pay more than us, but IMO that would be worst spot for him to go. I don't care either way if we can sign to a decent deal and not overpay I am fine with that or they can not sign him dont really care. He isn't a top tier CB or S, so doesn't really matter how many points we score.

He'll probably end up a Raider since he grew up a fan and they have the money he wants.

OK, possibly a dickhead works for me. He's going to be expensive and we already have a guy making #1 WR money. Just don't see the best teams tying up a lot of cap money in the WR position and our Offense was prolific just 2 seasons ago with the same personnel we already have. If he were an equally talented Right Tackle, I'd be all for it.

Re: DeSean Jackson meeting with the Redskins on Monday

Do you guys understand how hard it is to find a WR like this? Premier player at a premier position. Worth a 4-5m cap number this year, hands down. Do it.

Because of Andy Reid, possibly?

Re: DeSean Jackson meeting with the Redskins on Monday

As long as he doesn't have to be the #1 guy, which he wouldn't be here, DeSean Jackson is too dynamic to pass up on. Not many players can turn the game consistently on one play

Re: DeSean Jackson meeting with the Redskins on Monday
What about 6-7 if it took that?
We couldn't fit that under our cap unless we signed Orakpo long term, cut Bowen, or otherwise cleared some space. We have 7m right now.

But let's just make up some numbers out of thin air. A five year deal with 16 million signing bonus could carry a cap charge as low as 4m this season. If you don't want to backload that much or want to increase the bonus, a 5 year deal with a 20m bonus could be done for a 5m cap hit this year.

I am not sure what it will take to get him but we could fit it. I think you have to go for it if the deal allows you to escape after 3 years. It is SOOO hard to find a WR like this.

Also, instant problem solved when it comes to punt returns.

Re: DeSean Jackson meeting with the Redskins on Monday

I have been very much against DJax since the news that the iggles were shopping him. Don't like his character or the $ he demands. However, the circumstances now suggest that we could get him on the cheap or at a reduced price. We're the first team he's visiting, sounds like a vendetta. If he's hungry to stick it to the sheagles, this could be a good signing. We have about 7M in space last I read. If we can limit him to 3M of that, then I say pull the trigger. Don't think it will happen.

OnceWeWereKings 03-29-2014 11:55 PM

Re: DeSean Jackson meeting with the Redskins on Monday

I think he would be the definition of a locker room cancer. His performance isn't in question...I dont think the skins need more of a media circus in the coming years. I definitely vote no on signing him.
