I've seen a lot of reports of banker suicide in the past few months, I'm wondering if it's the few who still had a conscience.

Oh boo efffing hoo. Good lord, what a pathetic bunch. As someone who knows and have known several people to work as bankers in NYC, these folks know exactly what they are getting into. They usually start in research and in other entry level positions and see how everything works. These people work 60 hour weeks minimum, but their compensation is enormous...people would be shocked and bottomline, they are addicted to the money. Just like football, you risk major injury but you fully understand this going into that game. And like most football players the grind is too much and most are done by their early 30s. I got no sympathy for these twats. |

Here is another piece of work I won't miss !
http://www.nytimes.com/2014/04/02/business/charles-keating-key-figure-in-the-1980s-savings-and-loan-crisis-dies-at-90.html?_r=0 Charles H. Keating Jr., who went to prison and came to symbolize the $150 billion savings-and-loan crisis a generation ago after fleecing thousands of depositors with regulatory help from a group of United States senators known as the Keating Five, has died. He was 90. The death was confirmed by his son-in-law Gary Hall. No further details were immediately provided. The S. & L. debacle of the 1980s and 90s, when a thousand institutions collapsed in an implosion of reckless investments, may be a distant echo in a nation struggling to recover from economic turmoil. But to millions old enough to have been dragged through the mess, Mr. Keating is remembered, perhaps unjustly, as the pre-eminent villain of an era when depositors, many of them older Americans and naïve investors, lost life savings they had squirreled away in hometown thrifts that they thought were safe. |

holder is the one that sent out the memo saying that white collar crimes should be policed with fines because those people "aren't the right type" for jail.
so... not holding my breath. |

The Justice Department on Monday filed criminal charges accusing Swiss banking giant Credit Suisse of conspiring to help U.S. customers dodge taxes. The bank pleaded guilty to the charges, breaking from a recent tradition of letting banks defer prosecution. Credit Suisse also agreed to pay about $2.6 billion to settle the claims brought by the Justice Department, the Federal Reserve and New York State. "This case shows that no financial institution, no matter its size or global reach, is above the law," Attorney General Eric Holder said in a press release announcing the settlement. Bank of America, Goldman Sachs Group Inc. and other banks are weighing potential settlements with the Justice Department or U.S. housing regulators on a variety of mortgage matters that still are lingering more than five years after the financiaJudge Rakoff's decision could, in particular, complicate Bank of America's negotiations with the Justice Department in a separate, larger case over mortgage securities the bank sold to investors in the run-up to the financial crisis. The bank met with the Justice Department on Tuesday and Wednesday as part of that negotiation, according to people familiar with the matter, and raised its offer for what it is willing to pay. The $1 million fine for Ms. Mairone could stand as a rare example of a Wall Street official having to pay a fine out of his or her own pocket for conduct related to the financial crisis. The judge issued guidelines for how the fine should be paid from her own income. A Bank of America spokesman declined to comment on whether the bank would assist Ms. Mairone in that effort. |

i'd rather them start putting people in jail. take away their time. that's something they can't get by by raising interest rates or pushing shady mortgages. |

Re: Wall Street Crime .
banking execs read those headlines and immediately calculate how many weeks worth of profit that wipes out for the quarter, then on to wonder how much profit was made minus the fine.
the headline should be execs get sentenced to 5, 10, 20+ years in jail. then maybe the first thought that crosses the rest of the industry execs' minds is that they need to make sure their company is clean because they don't want to run the risk of actually being punished. |

Please note also on the second market the folks and the direvatives that were being spread out on those transactions were a cash cow for a ton of other smaller banks and a ton of other vendors. Also remember rating systems and government approval of mortgage back securities products. Please keep in mind the SEC fully regulated those deals and backed all those when times were good and the always remember the government made hand over fist from those deals. Please keep in mind Fannie and Freddie bought everything never doing their due dilligence to understanding what products they bought, blind bulk purchasing. Also remember the government put a gun to the head of BOA to buy Merrill Lynch during the meltdown. |
