How do you feel, the season is upon us.

Great final write up on last night's game from Keim here; Redskins 24, Bucs 10: Ten Observations - Washington Redskins Blog - ESPN

But really, the season starts next Thursday night and it's time make your feelings known! I am sure that will be hard for some on this board :D.

The poll is Redskin specific, but the thread is open to all thoughts. Who are you seeing as overhyped(Seattle), or under the radar (for me it's the Redskins)? Do you think the NFL will get the penalties right now that preseason is over? What one rule change has you feeling like it's going to set the tone for the year.

It's all out there, the new season is here, and everyone is 0-0, and is looking to get into the playoff hunt.

Are YOU ready for some football, or is your labor day feast your first priority?

Re: How do you feel, the season is upon us.

I'm feeling mild euphoria. I think Jay Gruden is a helluva coach, and I know RG is a winner at QB, but for this season I'm just not that optimistic. So long-term, I'm "boisterously confident", but for now I'll stay reserved.

Overhyped? Buccaneers. Everyone pegs them as a surprise playoff contender, but I don't see it. Mostly because McCown isn't that good and their O-line is terrible. But one Buc I do like is Lavonte David. Should have been defensive player of the year last year, and with more exposure he might get it this year. Definitely one of my favorite players in the NFL. Eagles are also overhyped. I think they should be the division favorites, but head and shoulders above everybody else? I don't agree with that.

Under the radar? I would say the Jaguars, but they've been getting some hype this year. I'll go with the Redskins as well. If Griffin plays well early and this defense is finally able to keep us in some games, we could be a playoff contender.

Yeah, safe to say, I'm ready for some NFL. Before we know it, the season will be over and the drudgery of the offseason will have returned, so let's enjoy some Redskins football before it's gone again. HTTR!

Re: How do you feel, the season is upon us.

I agree about Gruden. At his press conference last night he said some things (I don't remember them :( ) that just were diametrically opposed to a Maroon and Black comment. I do remember they asked him about Arena league vs NFL, and really thought his response was insightful, a little revealing, but ultimately blunt. I know it ended with, it's all about the wins. or something. He also said he let the OC call all the plays (except the TD's and laughed), which I thought was a great thing. Let's them work together and see each other's styles so there is familiarity.

Many, koolaid level going up as I write this!

How do I feel? Given RG3's play and Jay Gruden as the play caller it's hard not to feel hopeless! I would be shocked if we make the playoffs or compete at a high level.

Re: How do you feel, the season is upon us.

I was so irrationally high a year ago, that I'm really gun shy about projecting positive vibes about this team. And nothing in the pre-season, especially RG3 and the offensive line, have given me a comfortable feeling. is it's tough to drink the Kool Aid right now...

Having said that (here comes the fanboy), I gotta believe that RG is better than he was last year, especially with the weapons he has been given. And for no particular reason, I feel better about the defense, hoping that Hatcher might make enough difference to help a secondary essentially unchanged from the cluster-f*** that we saw last year.

Anything at or above .500 for the season will be a success, and I guess it should give us hope that if we can add a passable right side of an offensive line, and just 2 defensive secondary players we should be able to play with anyone.

HTTR - sigh...

Re: How do you feel, the season is upon us.

Worst teams in the league

1. Buffalo - they will win 2 and no 1 in the draft next year

2. Raiders - they could win 4. Dennis Allen is clearly the worst coach in the league

3. Cleveland - this will be a mess, manziel will play this year, but play poorly. Manziel as a system QB, you can clearly see that from last night's results of the A&M game. Cant read defense or even call plays

4. Houston - No QB and big mistake replacing the D cordinator...the only thing helping Houston is they play in the worst division in football

5. Jets - I just dont see Geno being the answer. The GM has also chosen to play with one CB this season.
8: If You Lived In Indiana, You’d Drink Too (BAC of .552)

28-year old James Henderson doesn’t want you to call him a hero. He puts his pants on one leg at a time, just like anyone else. Only after he puts on his pants, he goes out and gets so drunk that his doctors mistake his test results as a copy of John Bonham’s autopsy report. And he does this all while the sun is still up.

Henderson was found on the side of the road at 3:15 in the afternoon, which seems like the best place to be when you’re drunk enough that to summon John Daly during a séance. Police reported that he had several bruises, and when he was wakened during treatment he made a “barely coherent statement” about getting hit by a car. We can only assume that the “car” is some code word for “a handle of tequila.” He eventually was charged with public intoxication, because Northwest Indiana only feels joy when they’re stopping anything fun from happening.

(And to cement his legacy, he once again got arrested for having a nearly .3 BAC at 7AM this past March 25th. Because, again, it’s Indiana.)

New system, new coach, OL is bottom third of the leage, RG3 has a ways to go -- he strikes me as being a little immature but I don't know the guy. One thing we can all agree on is that he's not a phenomenal leader but maybe he'll get there.

That being said, the culture seems way better, more congenial compared to the tyranny of MS. Lots of offensive weapons, Jordan Reed will be a matchup nightmare game in and game out. Morris seems like the real deal and the defense might not be horrendous. I'm calling 8-8.

confident. last season had a lot of issues that are no longer there. i find the recent criticism of griffin's on the field ability absurd and think he'll be even better than 2012.

of course i'm a homer and thought they were a 10+ win team last season so there's that ;)

There, now fixed. You forgot two words: Jim Useless! There, that says it all! 8-8? Hardly! 5-11 more likely, but would really appreciate the 8-8.

I feel good about the football season being here, but I'm not very optimistic about our season.(I haven't seen anything in pre-season to warrant it) I'll be happy if we manage anything over a 6-10 season to be honest.

OK, I'd like everyone to forget about what our W-L record might be this season for a moment while I tell you why I like the future of this team.

1. This team plays hard on every down. These players are passionate about football.

2. IMO, many of the veterans on this team have shown improvement since last season.

3. We've added some key FA's who will make a difference. Jason Hatcher and DeSean Jackson are Pro Bowl quality players.

4. We had a good draft. I think I see high ceilings for several of our draftees.

5. We have much better depth at some positions. Our WR corps is about as good as it gets. I think we'll have a strong rotation in the DL.

6. One way or another, we're going to be OK at QB.

7. Special Teams will be much better.

8. We have better leadership than last season.

IMO everything you say here is true.

One positive about Bruce Allen is that he replaced players collecting paychecks with players who want to ball.

Re: How do you feel, the season is upon us.

I like the job Allen/Gruden/Hasslet have done so far bringing in new blood.
Our LB depth looks better.....more physical. We are also deeper and more talented at WR, QB, RB, CB and safety.
It appears so far this preseason we have a more physical team. This hopefully will translate into our special teams not getting pushed around anymore...... or at least not as much as last season.
I like Bashaud Breeland, Ryan Grant, Silas Redd, Morgan Moses and Trent Murphy, Duke Ihenacho and Gabe Miller. Talent and youth.
The FO is doing its job.

The big unknowns:
RGIII, Gruden and OL.

Voted passed out can't remember last night superbowl drunk. While not the sole reason for last years horrible record, our history worst special teams just killed us all year. Slight upgrade this year will really make a differance.

I love RG3 but at same time if Cousins was named starter at any point this year i would have no problem. We have too many weapons to not win games.

Re: How do you feel, the season is upon us.

This will be another year of Redskins football. I expect around 6 wins and after watching RG3 in preseason I'm starting to think that might be a reach. The D will be better than expected and the O will be worse. RG3 wont start all 16 games.

I think the paragraph below sums it up nicely:
Now? He's got DeSean Jackson, fresh from Philadelphia. He's got Jay Gruden, fresh from Cincinnati. He's got two seasons of experience behind him. He's got a soft-ish schedule in a weakened NFC East. And he's got a fully healed knee. There probably wasn't enough skepticism about Griffin before. Now there may be too much.
2 training camps ago, my brother and I sat counting Griffin jerseys, and the ratio was outrageous. Every group had at least 1, if not more. I didn't go this year, but I imagine the ratio dropped. I say that to go along with the note on skepticism.

Can we all agree with that? I've yet to hear a credible source who spends all of their time in the locker room (Keim, Tandler, al-Bashir, Mike Jones) question his leadership from anyone on the team. I give zero credibility to Bleacher Report/Pro Football talk 'articles' about things like that because they aren't feet on the ground reporters. They are aggregate bloggers whose sources are often other bloggers.

Sorry, end of that rant, back on topic.

I'm hesitantly, cautiously, pensively optimistic. While many were too high on the prospects of 2013, I feel that as many are too low on our 2014 outlook. I can legitimately see us contending with Philly for the NFC East crown with a ceiling of about 10 wins. There is WAY too much talent on both sides of the ball for this to be a 4-12 or 5-11 team. While Haslett deserves the criticism he gets, if Hatcher, Rak and Kerrigan are healthy, our defense will improve simply because QB won't have all day to sit and pick us apart. Fletcher being gone will improve our linebacking group. He is a legend but last year was a huge liability. Our mid October offense will look much better than our early September offense so as long as we keep improving throughout the year, we should be good.

Ceiling 10-6, floor 7-9 so I'll settle at 8-8.

Re: How do you feel, the season is upon us.

So glad football is here. Not so sure about our Skins. I think the defense and teams plays much better. Not sure about offense. I think that's the area where we're going to struggle starting off. 6-8 wins seems logical to me.

I thought the poll would reflect more optimism. Gotta say, I think we struck gold with Gruden, and would be shocked if he doesn't have us in the SB within the next 2 years. That said, we will know a lot more on Sunday, when we see how he calls the game to minimize Clowney, Watt and the rest of the Houston's front 7

Re: How do you feel, the season is upon us.

I don't think it's that long a shot for 2years. Of course, I am banking on Griffin staying healthy, probably the biggest risk, and Gruden actually being as good a coach as I think he is. I also think we ought to win the division both this year and next, with Philly being the only team that is in good shape to compete for it, but I think Kelly's going to get a rude shock this year.

The contracts they put in place are a 2yr, 3 at most timeframe before major parts start get overhauled, and while I don't think that's bad, it sets up for a good two year run now.

Personally, I see us a lot closer to the 2012 team, with better back end defensive and special teams play, and that team could have, would have, should have gone deeper in the playoffs.

Keim has us going 7-9, which is one off from where I thought. He's right though, this whole thing depends on how Robert does. He could very well lead us to another division championship this year. I'm hoping for the best.

While I am very excited to see what a healthy RG3 can do, our bottom of the barrel secondary and no RT will be insurmountable. We finish a distant 4th with a 5-11 record.

While I love the idea of d jax, he was not a need and this team still has glaring needs. We should have used that 10 mil per to sign the FS out of carolina and the RT from the bucs. If we had a legit FS and legit RT, we would have a legit chance.
