Cowboys vs Skins: Pre-Game thread

Robert Griffin III - Washington Redskins - 2014 Player Profile - Rotoworld.com

Good news to start.
Robert Griffin III (ankle) took the first quarterback rep at Wednesday's practice.
In the first individual drill, RGIII was No. 1 and Colt McCoy No. 2. Kirk Cousins has been demoted to No. 3. This doesn't mean Griffin will get the start Monday night against the Cowboys, as coach Jay Gruden has repeatedly said RGIII has "got to be 100 percent" before he plays. We won't get an official practice status from RGIII until Thursday. We'd still consider him unlikely for Week 8. But Griffin is making strides in the right direction and may be targeting Week 9. Their defense is overrated. If our defense plays well and the special teams don't have any f*ckups, this game should be close.

See, my fantasy opponent has Griffin, therefore he will start and light it up.

Re: Cowboys vs Skins: Pre-Game thread

Don't get me wrong, I think Dallas isn't likely as good as its record would suggest, but it's hard to see how we win this game. We have our #3 QB (most likely) playing, we've just lost one of our two starting OLBs, we're already missing a starting CB and a starting nickelback, our starting NT, and we've otherwise had significant injuries elsewhere as well. All teams have injuries, but teams without significant depth (us) have a far harder time recovering from that. Also, we have committed lots of bad penalities (one of the most penalized teams in the league), and with the exception of last week, special teams has been sub-standard. We also don't generate turnovers or convert third downs particularly well.

I'd love to think that with our backs against the wall, guys will step up on a nationally televised game and put up a real fight. But Dallas will likely smell blood from the get go, and let's be honest, our Monday night games have largely been disasters as of late. To keep this game close, we will need Romo to have a crap night with some picks, and we'll have to play mistake-free football, which we really haven't done much this season.

I'd like to be optimistic that we will get a win (and how sweet would it be to bring the Cowboys crashing back to Earth in their own place). And while one never knows what will happen in a rivaly game like this, I just can't see us winning this one.

High-scoring game. Given our personnel, it will be hard for us to stop Witten and Bryant. But we might be able to slow down the bellcow Murray.

The Pokes D has played well but is hardly invincible.

Redskins-Cowboys
National Television

Somehow I'm thinking this game should probably be televised during SyFy Channel's Halloween Spooktacular.

I hope the Skins surprise me though.

I would take their defense over the skins defense, especially their defensive coordinator. I think the skins keep it close for a half and the Cowboys pull away in the third quarter.

Ehhh... that defense looks okay right now, but it's because of the offense. They're just facing fewer plays this year. Remember how bad they were last year? Check out these stats:

They're allowing the same number of yards-per-play as last year: 6.1.

They don't have a good pass rush, with 6 sacks on the year. Considerably worse than last year, when they finished with 34.

They're on pace for 1 more turnover than last year, with a team turnover ration of -1(granted, quite a bit better than us).

Their opposing team's 3rd down conversion percentage(42%)is the same as our opponent's, and only slightly lower than theirs last year(43%).

Sorry, not impressed. Although I would say Marinelli is doing a solid job considering the kind of talent they have.

Re: Cowboys vs Skins: Pre-Game thread

The only thing that has me holding out hope is that the Skins would have had a chance at least for another win or two if it weren't for all the turnovers by Cousins. If Colt can come in and manage the game, let DJax and Garcon make some big plays, our D shows up like they should for a rival, we minimize the penalties, and not give up anything big on ST, well we might stand a chance. Those are a lot of ifs . . .

Another big day for Cobra Kai!

Redskins - 26
Cowboys - 24

For sure. The Skins can beat the JV but this week they are playing the Varsity. You wont have to stay up late Monday Night.

They are tackling better. Doesnt show up in the stat lines. They are being coached above and beyond their talent level. Haslett doesnt even know what that means, and he never has.

If the majority of the start of the season is any sign of their chutzpah than no,.....they do not.
In no way giving up on them. Will certainly not be wearing Dallas colors or rooting for them on Monday but EVERYTHING about this game point to an absolute disaster. Anyway- lets go Any Given Monday.

I just hope we dont get embarrassed on national tv again. We dont have anybody that can cover Dez and we cant get any pressure on the qb.Now that Orakpo is out I dont see pass rush getting any better.I think Romo and Dez will be playing toss and catch,Dallas wins easily

We are clearly overmatched and I expect us to lose.
With that said, I expect Gruden to be creative find a way to steal a win.

I liked what the Rams did against the Seahawks.
You have nothing to lose except a game we are expected to lose so you might as well bust out some creativity and get this done.

We don't just lose on National TV we get hog tied, thrown in a burlap bag and beaten within an inch of our life. It's NEVER close, it's almost always a blow out.

When was the last time we actually won a nationally televised game?

Still 2 years of Primetime losses hurt.

Remember the SCABS went to Dallas and beat there starters!!with this rivalry anything is possible!!..what is interesting is that the cowboys turned it around this season..why can't the skins hit a streak…i would not be surprised if we won or if we get beat bad .

Re: Cowboys vs Skins: Pre-Game thread

OK, I'm calling for the upset - 'Skins 27, Boys- 24

We get the running game back, the d-line stiffens, we quit calling exotic blitzes that leave our remaining DB's vulnerable- maybe we even double Dez and get a Turn Over or two.

Gibbs 1.0 turned it around starting in Game #6- I think Gruden can do the same.

Hail!

No doubt, so much promise thrown right out the door. And I gotta listen to all these Dallas born again Cowpatty fans who have so conveniently come crawling out of every gutter and shit hole in Tx.

I agree with this. Turnovers were huge factors in all the losses. If we avoid those and make them play long fields, we should have a shot at beating them. They will score, but we have some weapons too. I'ld love to see Alfmo have another great day.
