Skins vs. Vikes Pregame Thread
I'm excited RG3 is back but I'm most excited about this will be the 1st time the offense will be playing injury free. I think it's a good idea to start RG3 before the difficult stretch of tough games. I think we show our high power offense this game put up points.

When will we get the official word on who is starting QB...just before the game?
|
Re: Skins vs. Vikes Pregame Thread
This Viking game is a game the Skins can win, my only concern is a "rusty" RG3. The Vikings don't score a lot of points, they haven't gone over 20 in 4 weeks, but their Defense is not that bad. If the Skins defense can continue to force turnovers and Robert makes good decisions with the ball, The Redskins can win this game.

Cowboys didn't know that Griff would be inactive until the last second. I'll be disappointed if we don't play the same mind game with Minny. Make them prepare for both QB's. |

Re: Skins vs. Vikes Pregame Thread
The best thing for this franchise right now would be for Griffin to come in and light things on fire! We don't need anymore QB controversy. We need him to be the franchise QB we drafted him to be, otherwise, this team will be "rebuilding" for years to come. Ok, so no, he doesn't have to have killer stats, but he needs to prove he can protect himself and lead this team effectively. This team is certainly still missing some pieces, but with good play from Robert we can end this season respectably.
RG3 - 2 passing TD (1 to Reed, 1 to DJax), 1 rushing TD. Kai - 3/4 FG's Breeland - 1 INT Defense - 6 sacks Redskins - 30 Vikings - 20 |
Re: Skins vs. Vikes Pregame Thread
I'm trying to be optimistic about this game, but I'm having a hard time with it. Minnesota has a really good defense and some good players on offense too. And with us coming off a big win and a 2 game win streak, who knows what the team's mindset will be. If Griffin actually plays and goes all RG3 over their ass, we should win big. If 2013 Griffin or McCoy plays, we probably have a decent chance as long as the defense plays well and the special teams don't have any f*ckups. Hopefully Haslett doesn't sit back and let Teddy attack us like he does with a lot of QBs. We're better off with an aggressive pass rush.

I think Haslett learned he can trust his rookie corner and his 2nd year corner Amerson after Monday night. With that bit of knowledge, he should be able to continue to disguise his blitzes the way he wants to in order to keep another rookie Teddy Bridgewater guessing. I'm worried more about RG3's decision making and abilities after a 6 week break than our defense at this point. |

i give Haz Mat a ton of credit for teh game plan against Dallas and for any second half adjustments he may have made (im not smart enough to recognize if he did or didnt adjust). BUT this entire defense is still highly suspect imo. it has been better than i thought entering this season, but i dont think we get the same play from the D in the dallas game consistently going forward. I would attack our secondary and safeties like I was playing madden. |
Re: Skins vs. Vikes Pregame Thread
This has the feel of a trap game -- after a big, emotional win on the road, playing a team that isn't strong and that we ought to beat, a week before the break.... I think that how the team responds and plays throughout will say a lot about how Gruden is handling his first HC job in the NFL.
My guess is that the team is ready to play and that while there are some cringe-worthy moments, we'll pull away in the end. Skins 35 Vikes 23 |

I hope you're right, but I have my doubts. Did you see our defense after Weeden came in? Haslett totally went away from the aggressive rush and basically said, "Okay, we're going to make this backup QB prove he can beat my secondary." And that's exactly what happened. I love Amerson and Breeland, but not only are they still young, but the safeties behind them are mediocre on a good day. Haslett needs to go up against every QB with the mindset that that QB will destroy his secondary if given time(because he probably will), and then bring the dogs to counter that. IMO. |

Huh? We were blitzing to the end. |
Re: Skins vs. Vikes Pregame Thread
Not when Weeden was in. Once Romo came back, we started blitzing again.

Watch the game again. Not true. |
Re: Skins vs. Vikes Pregame Thread
I am less concerned with blitzing and the passing game than I am about stopping the run. We didn't do that well at all v. Dallas, and while we're not facing a back as good as Murray this week, the Vikes run game has been pretty good. And Zimmer is smart enough to know that if the run is working, stick with it. I cannot believe how stupid Garrett was about that. I don't see Zimmer making that mistake, especially given the tape from Monday night. If we can contain the run and force Teddy B. to throw, I like our chances a lot. He's thrown a number of picks and has been sacked a lot. We have to be disciplined and stay in run lanes. I'd also like to see more from our D-line; they were pretty quiet on Monday. Hatcher needs to step up his presence. Bowen and Baker too.

I seem to remember laying off the blitz heavily when Weeden came in. Thought they even talked about it. I remember I asked for us to blitz him strait to hell in the gameday thread and being disappointed? Could be mistaken. |

Like u mentioned Murray is pretty damn good. The best actually. On top of that their passing game is lacking so I think we can key heavily on the run - especially with our new found trust in the young cb's. |

I dont think Murrays that good,he's ok but it bothers me he's breaking Jim Browns record. The guy is nowhere close to being as good as Brown,Dickerson,Payton,Sanders etc.Hell,I dont think he's as good as Morris. His offensive line and a lot of carries are getting him his yards. I think one reason the skins want RG3 in there now instead of after the bye is to avoid a qb controversy as much as possible IMO.If Colt was to start and have another good game and we win it would start a fire,by playing RG3 its nipped in the bud before it can get momentum. We lost last year to the Vikings with Griffin and Morris getting 139 yards, and they started Ponder! So this wont be easy,it will be easy to have a letdown after the Dallas game. Any why are we playing the Vikings for the 3rd year in a row? WTF |

Did not mean of all time, that would be plain silly. I hear you about a letdown - lets hope these guys understand that. Also your thinking about Griff going in now could be exactly why. I do question whether it actually will create a qb controversy if he doesnt play well. Time will tell. Go Griff. Go Skins. I thought football season was over so either way im pretty happy bout now. Amen. The year Rypien was our Super Bowl QB I think he was sacked only 5 times in the regular season or something incredible like that. We had 5 sacks on Monday. The Dallas line is good but isn't close to meeting that standard. |

Re: Skins vs. Vikes Pregame Thread
DeAngelo Hall re-tore his Achilles' tendon while at home this week.
Hall is already on season-ending I.R. because he tore his Achilles' in Week 3. It's unclear how he re-injured it at home, but it happened, and Hall had it repaired again on Thursday. It's a five-week setback, though Hall should be ready for training camp next summer. That's not a given, however, with Hall being 31 (next month) and now rupturing the tendon two times in two months. Per SS boy Schefty damn, that sux |
Re: Skins vs. Vikes Pregame Thread
This is going to be a really tough game.
History and logistics aren't on our side. We're coming off a Monday night road game and turning and burning back out to Minnesota. The extra day of game planning and implementation is huge. That being said, we were a different team Monday night. We go as RG3 does Sunday. |
Re: Skins vs. Vikes Pregame Thread
Warning: If we win the next two games, I'm probably gonna start some crazy talk about a Wild Card for the Skins.

Re: Skins vs. Vikes Pregame Thread
Wasn't sure what the right thread was for this.. but anyone know what's wrong with the running game? There are a few articles discussing this over the past weeks, and blame goes to Alf Morris not seeing holes, O-line not making blocks (guards/RT messing up), poor TE and WR blocking, and perhaps lack of RG3 threat to run.... There were a handful of good runs last game, but most were stopped at line of scrimmage.
I'm hoping that RG3 coming back will help. But I wonder whether S.Long or M.Moses will be any good this year (or just false hope), and I wonder whether getting Redd more carries could help as well.. (Don't see Helu as an every down back, but he catches well.) Seeing the gaping holes the Dallas line was creating for Murray made me envious. It seemed pretty stupid of Dallas last game to abandon their power running game to let their hobbled QB lose the game for them. |

Also, no RG3 has affected Morris in a big way. |
