How the draft looks if we trade down
Saw this today, and it had us trading down to 11. I like it. There are a good amount of tackles available that are all very similar and we have major depth issues on defense and could use the 2nd rounder or so we get in a deal. RT is obviously a big need so I think we need to address that or secondary help in the 1st.

Re: How the draft looks if we trade down
F....trading down. Stay where you are and take the best player available. Unless someone offers some RG3 type trade to move up.
|
Re: How the draft looks if we trade down
Trade down and grab as many picks as possible, need as many new players as you can.

Personally I would like to invest the OL with several high picks. The best way to do this is to trade down. A trade down means we can leave the draft with a first round tackle and a second round guard, and still have picks for other areas. Unless Leonard Williams miraculously drops to five. He's too rare a talent to pass up. |
Re: How the draft looks if we trade down
trading down is a no brainer, the Redskins need to add a least 10 good players. They got 2 in the draft last year- granted they did not have a first round pick.

So if we got a high 2nd rounder and a late rounder (2.11 and 6.11?) you wouldn't go down to 11? I would. |

I agree, there is a decent amount of CB and T depth that some will fall to the 2nd. Having a mid 1st, and two 2nds to take advantage of that would be huge. |
Re: How the draft looks if we trade down
With the number of holes the team has, trading down is the way to go unless of course Leonard Williams falls on our laps. We need to get as many picks for this year as possible

I've always enjoyed the idea of trading down. More picks = better, right? But we have so many areas of need that the idea of missing out on the top prospect at a position of need also makes me squeamish. For example, what if Leonard Williams is sitting right there? At what point is a trade worth missing out on a potentially game-changing player at a position of need? It's got to be something nuts that we get in return. |
Re: How the draft looks if we trade down
BTW I mentioned Leonard Williams but he is so very unlikely to fall to five that we are foolish to continue the discussion with him in it.
So the question is, who may there at five that we MUST have? And if the answer is, "no one," then why not trade down? For me the two-cents answer is "no one," although a strong case can be made for Gregory. |

We did that in 2011 and it got us Jarvis Jenkins. I wanna stay where we are and take the BPA |

Tampa and Tennessee are likely to go QB, Jacksonville and Oakland are the main threats for him, Oakland specifically. |

You could be right and I understand your logic. I'm still miffed that we could have had JJ Watt but traded down instead. I'm guessing, though, that Winston and Mariota will not be valued as highly by real teams as they are by the numerous draft sites which have them going at the top. The QB's who were supposed to revolutionize the game: RGIII, Kaep, Newton, etc., have mostly struggled (Russell Wilson excepted). So I think more GM's will be cautious about drafting nontraditional QB's like Mariota or Winston. The game has caught up with the "running" QB. Which is a long way of saying that I don't see Leonard Williams dropping to five. Just my two cents. |

Same for me. People fall in love with this idea of having more picks, but where has it gotten us the last few times we did it? We need impact players not just quantity. |

Stevie Wonder has a better chance of finding an impact player than the Redskins staff. |

If it's one thing we've hit on under Snyder it's the high first rounders. Samuels, Arrington, Williams, Taylor, etc. |
Re: How the draft looks if we trade down
Bobby Beathard and Bill Walsh were the kings of trading down, hopefully we can get a competent GM that can do that.

I'd rather use the high picks to get 2 or 3 players who can immediately make an impact and then some late round guys to develop. Instead of getting a bunch of above average to average guys who may or may not pan out with future development. Every now and then you get a Tom Brady or an Alfmo or a Breeland, but considering how incompetent our scouts have been and the fact we can't draft for shit I'd rather not take that risk. |

Re: How the draft looks if we trade down
When we are talking about trading down here we are only really looking at moving from 5 to say 11. If Williams is there then you take him (likely he won't be) otherwise is there a huge difference between the players available at these spots?
I am for trading down a few spots if Williams is gone to grab an extra 2nd rounder. After that, let's pick BPA at the top of each round. Oh and getting someone in who can identify talent is a must. I fully recognise that we are currently poor in this aspect. That's where our most important changes are needed this off season. |
Re: How the draft looks if we trade down
I hear the Titans will trade us their pick for just 2 additional First Rounders
|
Re: How the draft looks if we trade down
Mock draft has Williams going to the Titans. The one I read (if we kept the #5 spot) has us picking up Landon Collins at SS from Bama.
|
Re: How the draft looks if we trade down
Is collins worth that pick
|
Is collins worth that pick
No. We need coverage skills. |
Re: How the draft looks if we trade down
Also, yes trade down please. If we can't get one of the big two rushers, it's gotta happen.
Although I'm not against cutting ties with Garcon and drafting Cooper. |

I do not think Snyder is making the picks ...... and there are no Sean Taylors, Chris Samuels, or Trent Williams in this draft. It is going to a major make-over to make this team good. |

They say that every draft, and every draft they are wrong. JJ Watt wasn't JJ Watt coming out of college. Leonard Williams Randy Gregory Shane Ray Jameis Winston Ronnie Stanley Amari Cooper Landon Collins Marcus Mariotta (Don't want him) You can't tell me there will not be a great prospect at pick #5. |

Leonard Williams Randy Gregory Shane Ray Jameis Winston Ronnie Stanley Amari Cooper Landon Collins Marcus Mariotta (Don't want him) You can't tell me there will not be a great prospect at pick #5.
Of those players, IMO Williams is the only one worth the #5 pick. There is a case also for Gregory. Maybe Cooper. All other players on that list have some problematic element. As for Stanley, IMO we can trade down and still get him because #5 is way too high for him. again, just my two cents. |

Re: How the draft looks if we trade down
This is what is going to happen......pick number 5 is on the clock, Jameis Winston is going to be available and we are going to be in a stare down on whether to draft him or not.
Cleveland calls and we trade down to one of their 2 1st round picks and a 2nd or 3rd rounder. Day one is a win IMO |

Re: How the draft looks if we trade down
it's too early. trade downs depend entirely on who you end up with at the end of the day. if you trade down and your guy gets taken before your new pick, it can be a bad deal.
in general, getting more players in round 1-3 is better though. we're not even to the combine and pro days yet though, so the draft boards will change a lot between now and then (even though they probably shouldn't). |

Leonard Williams Randy Gregory Shane Ray Jameis Winston Ronnie Stanley Amari Cooper Landon Collins Marcus Mariotta (Don't want him) You can't tell me there will not be a great prospect at pick #5.
Id really be careful with Shane Ray, i wouldnt take him at 5. Nor would I take Collins or Winston. Everyone else looks legit. Id put Andrus Peat and Scherff in that group without hesitation. Whats gonna suck is when everyone realizes Amari Cooper is the best player in the draft outside of Leonard Williams. And then we can have the arguement of why we didnt take him 2 years from now. |
Re: How the draft looks if we trade down
If we have an opportunity to get an additional 1 especially from a bad team for next year draft, we should take it immediately. Hate to be that guy, you know the ones who's right, but next years draft will way more stacked that this one imo.

Re: How the draft looks if we trade down
Draft boards will most certainly change given that we don't even know who is coming out yet.

And FA changes a lot of teams boards. This is all speculation obviously. Although that Eagles win was nice, losing that game would've put us at 3 where Leonard Williams would fall to us. |
Re: How the draft looks if we trade down
No one is picking Collins in the top 5.

Agreed. He's great in the box but lacks the coverage skills a #5 pick needs. |
