#39 David Amerson
What of young David Amerson? Last week Terrance Williams beat him on the same double move that he used to get beat with when he was a corner for N.C. State. At the next level we all expected improvement. Before the 2013 draft Amerson was viewed as a high risk, high reward type of corner. He's had a dreadful season and didn't nab an interception in 2014 after having two as a rookie....there's also been word that Amerson has been engaging in Fred Davis like behavior......while I do believe Amerson has potential, I also believe that the Redskins should trade him. He just concluded year 2 and Raheem Morris hasn't coached him out of getting beat with the same double move that he often got beat with in college.

Re: #39 David Amerson
Let's see what a real DC can do with him before we toss him to the curb (and I agree that this season is reason for doubt). But we need to look for more quality CBs no doubt. If Hall comes back, I could imagine moving him to FS and then we will really need to cultivate CBs.

no moves until the DC says....jump!

Re: #39 David Amerson
Let's pray Morris is out the door when a new DC is hired. Not giving up on him yet.
|
Re: #39 David Amerson
And what are you going to get for him? A 7th if you are lucky, let the new DC coach him up.
|
Re: #39 David Amerson
Yeah, can't give up on Amerson yet. But it would be a good idea to bring in competition.

Re: #39 David Amerson
I love when people are like trade so and so. As though there are all these buyers for our awful guys.
|
Re: #39 David Amerson
Trade him for what, a ham sandwich? Based on last year's performance he's not worth a seventh round pick.
Sign someone or draft a CB to put someone ahead of him on the depth chart. Bury him on the depth chart and make him show some character and earn his way back. |

You must don't have a critical eye on what's wrong with our team....any GM or DC can easily spot where all of the weaknesses are on our defense......a talent evaluator like A.J. Smith will easily look at a corner like Amerson and see him as trade bait. Or Smith will look at the position itself and see that it needs upgrading. If they decide to keep Amerson then he will more than likely be a nickel CB at best. |

He still has value. There's GMs around the NFL that would part with a draft pick or a veteran player for Amerson. |

In your post above, you yourself rated Amerson as a "nickel CB at best." So that's what you should expect to get in a trade. Draft position has nothing to do with it. How much are "nickel CB at best" players trading for these days? |

What????? You just said Amerson is only good enough to be a nickel cb on our team, one of the worst secondaries in the league, yet someone is going to trade for him? WTF |

It's a very delicate...complex process....this "good enough, Not good enough" thing. Perhaps your just not capable of understanding the intricacies?

His value isnt what anyone says or thinks, its what a single team is willing to pay. A tall CB with some speed will make at least one team think that the problem isnt Amerson, but the Redskins who didnt develop him properly (which probably is the truth). Then they will think that they could develop him and make him into a good CB. With as many bad trades and free agent signings that there are in the NFL, you honestly think a 7th rounder is the best offer we could get? |

If someone offers us a good deal for him, we should move him. But a poster above said Amerson simultaneously has value and has no value. I was responding to that. |

Take a look at Breeland.....I wouldn't want to trade him because he had a great year as a rookie......but his personal level of play doesn't have anything to do with how bad the secondary is/was......in mentioning Amerson I am talking about one guy.....not the entire defensive backfield..... |
Re: #39 David Amerson
amerson isn't worth anything meaningful. cutting him is dumb, cause he's still better than biggers and the 32 practice squad DBs we saw this year. right now he looks like a #3, but guess what? our team can use him as a #3.
no one will trade for him, but again, there's no reason to cut him unless he's not one of the best 53 players we have at the start of september. |

These morons are talking about elevating Morris to DC so I doubt they let the DC get rid of him. The good ole boy network. |
Re: #39 David Amerson
You have to work from the line backwards, our line play is just so far below what it needs to be.
|
Re: #39 David Amerson
Hard to imagine any real interest in someone trading for Amerson. And it's not like we're stacked at corner and have the luxury of trading someone away.
|
Re: #39 David Amerson
Our QB situation is a mess.
Our O-Line is a mess. Our pass rush is anemic. We have no safetys. We cant cover tight ends. Amerson is fairly far down my list of fixes for next year. |

If RG freakin 3 is only a 3rd or 4th rounder, how the hell is David Amerson worth anything more than a 7th? If a team were trading for Amerson, they'd be "taking a flyer". How could any team in the NFL assume he could be anything more than a nickel at this point? Are you even watching football games? |

You are under the assumption that a 7th rounder somehow is valuable. I guarantee you that someone would offer better than a 7th for Amerson. Not for what he did on the field last year, for the belief that he can be developed a lot better. I also am somewhat confused about people who say that if they arent superstars on their first snap in the NFL that they will never develop into anything worth keeping. Plenty of people have hung onto a roster spot and then have finally gotten it in year 4 or 5 before. We cant keep talking about our team not developing players and then turn around and act like its not important. Some GM somewhere will still believe Amerson can be a pretty good CB as long as he is developed. A larger corner with speed that has shown some flashes. And you honestly think no one will want him? Or are you one of those people that believe the only position that matters is QB? |

Re: #39 David Amerson
I'm not ready to give up on David Amerson. He got some talent. All he needs is more time to develop. I also think he'll be a much better safety than corner.

David Amerson is under a 2nd rounder's rookie contract, meaning he makes a lot more than a 7th rounder makes. And based on last year's performance, you'd have to say he's way overpaid based on that 2nd rounder's contract. I'm not giving more than a 7th rounder if I have to pay a guy a 2nd rounder's salary, who I don't even know can stick on my team better than a 4th rounder I might find in the upcoming draft. We found Breeland right? The Seahawks found Sherman in the 3rd. If you ask for more than a 7th teams will say screw that, I'm not paying Amerson's salary when I can just draft one in the middle rounds and have just as much a chance for success. Amerson will be a free agent in two years, if you draft a 4th rounder you'll get him for four years. Just doesn't make sense. You can try to ask for more but I don't think you'll get it. That's why players' draft value falls so quickly after an inauspicious start to their career. Why trade for someone who has had a chance to prove themselves and hasn't, than just draft someone and give them their first chance? |

PLUS trading in the NFL is fairly rare. I swear some people here think players are like Garbage Pail Kids cards and we can just traded them on the playground between classes. |

A 7th rounder isnt making most teams next year. No one is going to be scared away from a 1 mil cap hit if they believe the player can help them, even if as only a depth thing. How many times does an NFL team trade a 5th or a 6th for a depth player? They may try to add the "has to make the team to get the pick" stipulation, but those types of trades happen. We had one a few years back with detroit and that safety was trash. We are talking about a CB with size that has shown flashes and plays for a team that is widely considered bad at developing players. You are basing his value strictly on what you would pay based solely on one year, and we all know what some random person thinks is a value is rarely the actual value. There are plenty of teams that would offer a 5th or 6th for that, its happened way to much in the past to say it never happens. If it doesnt work out, there is a very good chance that the 5th or 6th round pick wouldnt work out either. So a lot of GM's will take chances on just those exact type of things with lower picks, and not just 7th's. |
Re: #39 David Amerson
I think if it is a worry about potential lets wait to see what the new DC can accomplish. But hypothetically I don't see the value of trading Amerson for a 5th or 6th. If it is believed that he has potential to be a quality nickel or even a starter, why trade for a 5th or 6th that most likely won't make the team?

Scouting report on Amerson when he was at NCSU was that he can't rebound after a double move by the WR and yet we drafted him!?!?! He is a safety so please move him there!

Sometimes coaches and personnel people think that all a prospect needs is coaching.....the guy who drafted him (Mike Shanahan) is to blame.....this is the same guy who traded Kevin Barnes for a meaningless 5th round pick and didn't re-sign Cedric Griffin....both Barnes and Griffin are better in coverage than Amerson..... |

Not on-man.

Next year will definitely be put up or shut up time for Mr. Amerson. Hopefully he won't be another wasted high draft choice.

Re: #39 David Amerson
Wikipedia tells me he has been out of football since May 13, 2013, lock it up
|
Re: #39 David Amerson
I'd say take a look at Dre Kirkpatrick. Took him 3 years, but with height athleticism and ball skills he has gone from bust to playing at a very high level.
Amerson's talent can make him frustrating to watch, but his trade value is nil, and he is a willing tackler with ball skills. |
