2015 Coaching Carousel
Rex Ryan to Buffalo. Interesting move. I predict he will do what he did with Jets, a few good years, couple of deep runs into the playoffs, and then chaos and drama as the inmates take over. Over/under on how long it takes for him to announce the "No one takes us seriously, everyone against us" card.
They have a good D now. He will improve it, but his "Ryanism" will eventually win out and it will all just go to hell. Still open: Chicago, SF, Atlanta, Oakland, NYJ. Any thoughts on the openings? |
Re: 2015 Coaching Carousel
And he brought an old buddy from his Baltimore days to be his OC, Greg Roman.

Re: 2015 Coaching Carousel
It's a sad statement about us that Mike Shanahan is getting play on the job market this year. He should be toxic on the market. But many other teams blame people who are still in our FO for the spectacular flame-out, not Shanahan.

I think Buffalo made out pretty well going from Marrone to Ryan.

I agree, tho it'd be strange to be a Bills fan. Hate Ryan as the opposition one day, welcome him as your chief the next. |

2 rings will keep your name relevant, and yeah it's easy to blame the Skins for his undoing here. But I would't say he's squeaky clean either. |
Re: 2015 Coaching Carousel
i say shanahan goes to the bears, along with his son. just a gut feeling
|
Re: 2015 Coaching Carousel
Wherever the Shananigans go I will be rooting for them to fail miserably. Lol
I think Rex is done as a HC in two years. |
Re: 2015 Coaching Carousel
I have a feeling Dan Quinn may end up a pretty good HC. If he gets the Jets turned around, folks will really start to question Rex's ability as a HC (more than they do now).
I wonder whether Adam Gase loses a little steam as a candidate after yesterday. Peyton was obviously not 100%, but I don't think he called a particularly good or creative game either. Same for Jack Del Rio too -- he had no real answer for Luck and didn't seem to make any adjustments of consequence. |
Re: 2015 Coaching Carousel
I don't get why people are so down on Rex Ryan. He did a decent job with the Jets IMO, and things started to break down when their GM started to F things up. I guess it will all depend on what type of FO the Bills have and their QB situation. I think they'll likely start from scratch in that area, hard to see EJ Manuel doing anything. Looking forward to see what Ryan can do with that defense, which was already pretty good.

Re: 2015 Coaching Carousel
Rex isnt a bad coach, but the offense choices and performances have been terrible by the Jets. Rex has to take some responsibility for that...Look at this waste Vick, Geno, Stephen Hill, Chris Johnson, Sanchez, Shonn Green, Jason Smith, Dustin Keller, Vlad Ducasse...Braylon Edwards, Plaxico,
Rex has proven to be very stupid with the offensive side of the ball...i dont understand why some give him a pass. Overall he's not a bad coach, but he needs alot of help on offensive side |
Re: 2015 Coaching Carousel
I think that Rex does struggle with the offense - that's not his natural wheelhouse.
But as Ruhskins said, Rex has gotten very little help from his GM's. |

Just heard John Fox was fired. 38-10 record. WTF?

Re: 2015 Coaching Carousel
We should consider bringing him to interview for the DC job on Thursday.

Re: 2015 Coaching Carousel
I'm sure Fox wouldn't even take that call.

Not sure. Regardless of who coaches there, Manning doesn't have enough in the tank. If I were Denver, I'd move on and go with Brock O. |

Re: 2015 Coaching Carousel
why do you say that?
Why should he? There's 5 teams still looking for a HC. He's bound to draw some serious interest from those teams. It's like people thinking Rex Ryan was going to take anything less than a HC job. |

Let me ask you this, but why should Shanahan be toxic? Just a few weeks ago people were saying how Shanahan was "forced" into drafting RG3 because it's what Dan wanted, and they were sticking up for him saying that Shanahan knew that RG3 couldn't play the position, but his hands were tied, etc... Shanahan was not the reason for the flame out. We have a shitty owner - shitty former general manager in Bruce Allen - we don't believe in the draft, always try and fill holes through free agency. For the best part of Shanahan's tenure - we had shitty players and a shitty defense and shitty DC in Jim Haslett. No coach has, or will, win in those circumstances. Jay Gruden has much of the same. He has no answer at QB. My hope is that Scott McCloughan rights alot of the wrongs listed above. I didn't like Shanahan when he was here, but he was hardly the sole reason for our problems... |
Re: 2015 Coaching Carousel
Remember Peyton Manning almost came to Washington because of Shannahan and even stayed at his house out in Colorado ,they are close and he will run an offense that Manning will thrive in when fully healthy .

Why ,they didn't want him in Washington ,RGIII was an owner pick . |

My perspective adds the fact that Shanahan took a huge poop on the organization and fans alike on his way out the door. He didn't have to be so unprofessionally spiteful. If I'm an owner, I'm worried about his maybe doing the same to my franchise. |

I didn't like Shanahan when he was here, but he was hardly the sole reason for our problems...
For a guy that signed on claiming to have "full control" only to now hear about how he never got to pick his coaches (Haslett) or players (RG3 among others), something isnt right. Did Shanahan go full coward to Dan Snyder? Or is the Dan excuse just that, an excuse? Shanny comes across as having an ego (not necessarily a bad thing in pro sports), so I cant help but question if he would have just cowered to any Dan Snyder whim that was placed on his desk. If Dan fires him, thats a helluva lot of money to make while sitting at home doing nothing or getting a second paycheck from a different team. Shanny comes across to me as a guy who would force the issue if he wasnt getting full say and he honestly believed that the choices being forced on him were bad choices. Fletcher said in his dissing of Haslett that Shanny recognized immediately that Haslett was a joke, yet Haslett was around his entire tenure. RG3 is big enough to just say it is so due to Dans meddling in the past, whether true or not, but Haslett? Are you honestly telling me that Dan demanded Haslett and refused to allow him to be fired? Im not a fan of Dan Snyder. But if he truly was 100% running this franchise during Shannys tenure, which is what is now being described, something tells me Shanny wouldnt just accept it. Especially if he had it written into his contract. If he did have it written in, then Shanny chose his coaches and players. If he didnt, his agent blatantly failed in the crafting of the contract. |
Re: 2015 Coaching Carousel
Shanny definitely isn't without blame here. Let's not kid ourselves. And last I checked he's still looking for a job. I wonder how serious any interest in him really is.

Re: 2015 Coaching Carousel
Where is all of this Shanny love coming from?
|
Re: 2015 Coaching Carousel
Mike Shanahan has a lot more football credibility than Allen or Snyder. End of discussion.

I don't think anyone denies that. But his fingerprints are all over our mess just the same. |

yes the dominant era of shanny was something to behold.
|
Re: 2015 Coaching Carousel
Mike Shanahan was a good coach and is more credible than Dan Snyder. He should have never been allowed to hire his son as the OC and he should have be held accountable for the poor performance of the defense and Jim Haslett.
I do not understand this love for him after they way he left the team. |

Re: 2015 Coaching Carousel
Mike Shanahan has a lot more football credibility than Allen or Snyder. End of discussion.
Thats not the discussion here. The question is did Shanny run the team or did Dan? To me, it all boils down to whether it was written into the contract that he had full control. If so, the RG3 trade was Shanny, not Danny. You dont just point a finger at an alpha male personality and they roll over. I dont buy that Shanny rolled over for Dan on everything like Shannys mouth pieces are now describing. Why demand full control and have it given to you, sign the contract, and then give up all control the next day. That just doesnt make sense to me since we are dealing with alpha male personalities. Shanny had no problem patting RG3 on the back claiming him as his guy when we were winning 7 in a row to go to the playoffs. Now... Shanny had nothing to do with it. When the praise was being handed out, Shanny was front and center. Now that the praise is no longer there, Shanny is hiding behind Schefter and Steve Young who are claiming that Shanny never made a single decision in 4 years of "full control" except the decision to bring on Kyle. Sorry, I just dont buy it. Having said all of that... All Hail Scot McCloughan. I would rather have him than anyone that has come and gone during Snyders reign of terror as owner. |

Really?! That strikes me as odd. Guess I just don't think being Peyton Manning's OC is really all that impressive. Pretty average resume outside a couple years as Denver OC. Sent from my VS985 4G using Tapatalk |

Shanahan spent an entire season insulating himself from blame. And the reality is he hasn't done anything in the NFL without one of the top 5 all-time QBs. |
