Re: Why name RG3 the starter this soon?
Why not? Who cares.
More hard hitting analysis by Sally. Sponsored by Mike Shanahan. |
Re: Why name RG3 the starter this soon?
If RGIII can't comfortably navigate a three-step drop in August, it won't matter what was said in February.
|
Re: Why name RG3 the starter this soon?
Sally "the beotch" Jenkins couldn't wait to slam Danny after Shanarat's tell all.
|
Re: Why name RG3 the starter this soon?
Yet once again everyone in the media is forgetting Scot McC's comments about RG3 (not giving up on him) and maybe that has influenced this decision. But I guess this sort of stuff doesn't sell papers.
|
Re: Why name RG3 the starter this soon?
Regardless of what is what, we have to not only hope but expect that Griffin III will be much improved. But if Daniel Snyder is still stirring the pot then he needs to just stop. It's getting old and it's getting tired. Maybe Snyder didn't have his hand in Gruden's announcement at all. Maybe Gruden is giving RG3 enough rope to hang himself with in the case that he doesn't improve. In case RG3 doesn't make the most out of this last opportunity the Redskins should move on from him or make him a wide receiver.

Re: Why name RG3 the starter this soon?
Its still February....my Give a Feck Meter is barely registering.
Call me in August. |
Re: Why name RG3 the starter this soon?
Look at it this way RGIII as always said he wanted a Coach who had his back. MS said he didn't want RGIII he wanted Payton can't blame him but he settled for RGIII. JG came in 2nd week RGIII got hurt JG said I'm rolling with KC. JG was brought in to get RGIII going and the Offense moving neither happened with consistency. There trying to do the I thing they should of done from the beginning have his back or at least let it appear that way. HTTR.

Re: Why name RG3 the starter this soon?
Because rg3 is the best qb on the roster.....?

Re: Why name RG3 the starter this soon?
Everyone gets all butt hurt about Sally Jenkins. She likes ripping the Redskins, but nothing in her article isn't truthful. Everything in there is spot on.

This. Unless there's significant improvement it's not going to matter. I just don't think he'll improve enough to keep the job for 16 games. |
Re: Why name RG3 the starter this soon?
This sums it up for me.....
"Two head coaches in succession have had major problems with Griffin – two good, proven offensive minds that know how to teach young quarterbacks and get them to the postseason. Neither has been allowed to do his job. The result is that Griffin is three-quarters of the way toward being ruined. The Redskins have a young quarterback whose ego is so eggshell that he apparently cracks at the mere idea of competing for his position. " More like our owner has the egg shell ego due the embarrasingly terrible choices he has made over the last 15 years........so keeps on doing it. Snyder version 25.6 |
Re: Why name RG3 the starter this soon?
Im surprised so many are taking it as him being appointed as the starter. It came across to me as the skins enter training camp listing him as number 1 but never did I take it as a guarantee that he is the opening game starter. Sounded like Gruden was putting him on top of the depth chart for the sake of having someone there. Being on top of the depth chart in February means nothing, so why take it as something?
If Cousins outperforms him in TC, I expect Gruden to go with Cousins, regardless of this announcement. |
Re: Why name RG3 the starter this soon?
Eh I will wait until the season before I care who is named the starter.
|
Re: Why name RG3 the starter this soon?
Last year was an embarrassing mess, the QB carrousel needs to stop so growth can occur.

Re: Why name RG3 the starter this soon?
That must have been an extremely tough article to research on, she called her friend up and wrote a propaganda piece for him. Since he is so angry after collecting his last bunch of checks for 7 million, after helping run the football team into the ground. It's not like he sucked any less then Snyder or RG3, while he was helping run things.

Releasing him would be a pretty terrible move, you gain nothing and create a need. And I doubt he is worth more than a 7th round pick right now, which is not worth it imo. I think we need to ride out KC and RG and let them make the decision for us this year. In the meantime draft best player available at every pick. |

That isn't saying much, they are all horrible right now. What does that tell you when Colt was playing the best till he got hurt. |
Re: Why name RG3 the starter this soon?
My honest guess is because Dan Snyder probably told Gruden that if he wanted to be guaranteed one more year as HC, then he had best play RG3 no matter what.
Sure Gruden can play whoever he wants in "theory" but all that would end up bringing him is a public / national firing. With RG3 this is probably a 3 or 4 win team. With some other QB and the same ownership / management - we are probably a 5 or 6 win team. Nothing is going to change any time soon until Snyder and company are gone. |
Re: Why name RG3 the starter this soon?
Lmao @ saying Cousins is only worth a 7th rd pk

Doubt threatening to fire him would work any better than it did on Mike Shanahan. So... guess it's time to start blaming Gruden for everything now! Agreed that until Snyder is gone, looks bad. Hoping McCloughan can make a miracle happen. |
Re: Why name RG3 the starter this soon?
What does a guaranteed contract mean when you are redskins HC? If we've learned anything from the Shanahan situation, it's that Dan will fire you full well knowing he is paying you to watch from home for however long your contract is.
No, everything is not Gruden's fault. But it seems awfully fishy that Gruden has did a total 180 on his opinion of RG3 just a few months ago... |

With everyone knowing it was Snyder's fault, again. And I think the only reason an unproven OC got 5 guaranteed years here, is because that's what it takes to get someone to be HC under Snyder. 8 head coaches in 17 years. Even Joe Gibbs and Mike Shanahan couldn't turn this franchise around. At this point, the onus is all on Snyder, not Gruden. I really hope the 180 on RG3 is due to McCloughan. If naming Griffin the starter really is at Snyder's urging, seems we are doomed to another painful season. |
Re: Why name RG3 the starter this soon?
HC contracts are almost always guranteed money. It's not something the Skins are doing different than anyone else.

Re: Why name RG3 the starter this soon?
Speaking of contracts, I'm hearing that the new contract for Russell Wilson could possibly be a fully, guaranteed contract. I know we're talking about coaches' contracts being fully guaranteed, but it's a pretty gutsy & risky move to have a player's contract fully guaranteed. I mentioned this, merely, to point out that the idea of players and coaches having fully guaranteed contracts is not isolated to the Redskins organization. Sure, you ca point out that Russell Wilson can get you to a Super Bowl, but he can also get hurt and be out for a significant amount of time.

I know nowadays, teams overpay QBs to keep them from hitting the market. But a fully guaranteed contract for any QB is ridiculous. |

I never understood why contracts weren't guaranteed in the first place. There is no point in a contract if you can just tear it up. It isn't a contract then. |

They are designed to give the franchise a competitive edge and to have a loophole set so that they can unload the player before having to pay out so much against the contract. I don't know how much money is being wasted on this process, but it does seem to me that if contract monies were all guaranteed, and the contract is truly a "contract", then you'd probably see much lower salaries for these players. |

It's a half-contract. Players have to live by it...clubs don't. |

Re: Why name RG3 the starter this soon?
Really wonder if RGIII was named the starter sooner rather than take their time, meaning the coaches, as this could be a last ditch effort?
|
Re: Why name RG3 the starter this soon?
I'm surprised really that there is this much discussion over this subject.
Maybe i am insane, or jaded, or both, but i really truly feel it is a matter of Dan Snyder preferred RG3 to be his QB, no matter what. And so to accomplish this goal he made sure he brought in people / got other people on board with the decision. I believe Gruden was told straight up for him to get year 2, he had to accept that RG3 was the starter no matter what. Other coaches who were brought in were probably told the same. If they disagreed on personnel, they would have likely not been hired. |

Nevertheless, RGIII still needs to perform well on the field to keep the job. Dan Snyder won't save him if he continues to play poorly. Since we're rebuilding, I can wait out the QB decision. |

I think if Dan is convinced that RG3 should be the guy, then there is no stopping him. Who is going to change his mind? Rebuilding is a term that we use to loosely here. Our problem was, is, and will always be, we have one guy (Mr. Snyder) who believes that he "knows" players, and "knows" the game of football well enough that he can make all these decisions himself. Dan doesn't know either of these things. I still do not understand why he has hired a GM when everybody knows that DS is always going to make the final call. Here is a conversation that will NEVER take place at Redskins Park: Coach / GM, etc: "Mr. Snyder, we understand that you want RG3 to be our unquestioned starter, but all of us have reviewed game film, spoken with other scouts, talent evaluators, coaches, etc.. and the general consensus here and among the NFL is that RG3 can't play the position well enough to get wins. Continuing to play him is setting back this team and hurting the growth of other positions that rely on good QB play." Dan Snyder: "Well, i guess you're right, it looks like i was mistaken in my evaluation of RG3. Thanks for explaining. We need to put the BEST players on the field in order to have the best chance of winning" |
Re: Why name RG3 the starter this soon?
It will play out on the field. If Griffin isn't the best guy he won't be on the field.
|
Re: Why name RG3 the starter this soon?
Last year Griffin was healthy and on the bench for multiple games. If Snyder is really so set on Griffin starting, why wouldn't he have fired Gruden at the end of the season?

Because he is probably not so set on Griffin as people make it out to be. I'm sure there is some truth about the rumors, but I'm sure all of it is not. |

Agreed upon.....RG3 needs to play up to par if he's to remain the starting quarterback of the Washington Redskins.....Gruden won't hesitate to pull him again if Griffin plays poorly.... |
