Re: Star Wars Episode III
Was it any good?
|
Re: Star Wars Episode III
It was good, i would highly recommend to any Star Wars fan, some chessy dialog but I expected that, i guess that what i disliked the most. The best of the three for sure, but no Empire though. Special effect's WOW, deff don't downlaod a screener, a must see in the theater.
|
Re: Star Wars Episode III
Most definitely. I agree with your review. Some cheesy dialogue but Lucas DEFINITELY redeemed himself (I still maintain my contacts at a theater I used to work at, so I got to watch a private screening of just me and some friends last night).
|
Re: Star Wars Episode III
torrents hit the net before it opened, workprint not cam, wee ;)
|
Re: Star Wars Episode III
My friend actually walked out of it last night. He hated it. I've never been a Star Wars fan so I probably won't go. Some people are really into it though.
|
Re: Star Wars Episode III
Yeah, I'll say this from the point of someone who can't stand Star Wars. This one was pretty damn good.
|
Re: Star Wars Episode III
I saw it at 12:00 last night. I LOVED it!!! :biggthump It was by far the best of the new episodes. I would even say it's almost as good as the Frist three.
If your a Star Wars fan you must see this one in the Theater. I thought after Attack of the Clones Lucas really had to redeem himself. And he sure did with this one. I loved how most of the things I used to nite pick at where rapped up at the end. A+++ :headbange |
Re: Star Wars Episode III
lucas is still a terrible dialogue writer though... makes you think the first three were amazing only because of spielberg's involvement... at least lucas arts has always made good games ;)

Spielburg has had nothing to do with Star Wars. You must be thinking of the Idinana Jones series. Wich they both worked on. I agree Lucas can't write great dialog for his scripts. But he sure can write & tell a great story. |
Re: Star Wars Episode III
the best part was JAR JAR had no speaking lines:) . the movie was really good, by far, the best of the "new" three.
|
Re: Star Wars Episode III
Good movie, but some of the dialogue made me laugh out loud.
Nooooooooooo! -Darth Vader LOL |
Re: Star Wars Episode III
yeah the dialogue was pretty weak at spots but the movie definitely had its strengths as well. That opening scene is the best in the series in my opinion especially the stuff with R2-D2. General Grievious was pretty wicked and Yoda was a freakin champ in a bunch of scenes. I really liked it cuz I felt sorry for Anakin at the same times that I hated who he became. I was kinda pissed not to see Chewie actually do anything and I wanted to see samuel l fighting like mace did in the clone wars stuff on cartoon network.
|
Re: Star Wars Episode III
Let's face it, the dialogue of all 6 movies is weak, but it's not the dialogue people go to see.
|
Re: Star Wars Episode III
I just don't like the cornballness.
|
Re: Star Wars Episode III
it was fine in the first three... i watched ep3 last night, didn't like it at all...
all the acting was wooden (except the emporer and yoda), it was super simplistic (felt like it was written for 6 year olds with no attention span, they kept repeating the major plot point endlessly into mundane detail), and the movie felt really disjointed. On top of that, it was way too long, i got pretty bored of it. I don't think i'll ever watch it again. |
Re: Star Wars Episode III
I haven't seen it yet...going tonight...so for now, I just have a comment:
You can really tell which posters are older and grew up with the original trilogy, as opposed to the younger ones that respect the originals, but don't have the emotional attachment of living through the phenomenon that it was. Consider this: In 1977-83 there was no internet, most people didn't have cable TV yet, video games were in their infant stage, VCR's were new and expensive (and the idea of renting movies was yet to come).....so people actually went to the movies! And if they liked it, they went again! I guess for us older guys, seeing and hearing that opening in a theater just brings a emotional response like being a kid again, and people who are too young to have been there just don't get that. Yeah, like most people, for me the first two prequels were a little disappointing, and the dialogue has always been lacking, even in the originals....But still, it's a new Star Wars movie! And from what I've heard/read, this one stacks up better with the original three...so I can't wait!!! |
Re: Star Wars Episode III
I never saw the originals. I did watch I, II, and III in the theaters. I have liked each one better than the last. Three had a lot of action in it, but I felt like the light saber battles were always too close to the screen. I also felt sorry for Anakin, but was pissed off at him as I watched it unfold.
Planning on watching IV, V, and VI tonight. |

I hate that Lucas is now SWIMMING in money. Anyone ever see that Mad TV where they did a spoof of him driving around in a golf cart dressed like an Ewok?

"I hate that Lucas is now swimming in money." Dude the guy has been swiming in money since 1979. He owns all the rights to the Star Wars merchandise. I heard on the news last night that the Star Wars franchise has grossed over somthing like $9 1/2 BILLION dallors. That's over a $1.25 from ever person on the planet. Just think about that! There are some small countrys out there that don't gross that much money in years. It's really pretty amazing that a set of movies & merchandise could generate that much money. I really don't think Lucas has had to worry about bouncing a check in some time. p.s You made some great points SkinsRock. I was a little kid in the early 80's and your right. I saw Empire strikes back like 7 times in the theater. The same with Return of the Jedi. That was the only way we could see them. I used to listen to a Star Wars cassette tape with a story book that went along with it over and over. That was the closest thing we had to wacthing the movie at home. My Dad didn't buy a VCR untill 1985. And I don't think Star Wars was released on tape untill 86'. That's not to metion all my friends and I LOVED all the toys that they made for the films wich I think was a big part of it too. Alot of the younger kids on this site will never understand how big these movies where when we where growing up. (Thinking about that kinda makes me feel old) |

I used to live, eat, and breathe Star Wars and James Bond movies as a kid and even though the new trilogy doesn't compare to the original 3, I still got goosebumps each and every time I went to see the new three in the theaters when the opening music comes on as well as certain points in the movies. |
Re: Star Wars Episode III
III is by far the best of the new ones. Script is still a little corny, but I heard Lucas had someone else touch it up after he finished it. You can tell the difference between Clone Wars and Sith b/c III knew when to cut the cheesey love scenes short.
I think Sith's best aspect is it's overall tone. In fact, I put it right behind Empire. III is the darkest (atmospherically) out of all six films, probably due to its storyline. Would have loved to see Grievous (sp?) at his prime- my friends tell me he's an absolute badass in the cartoons. Did anyone trip out at the concert Palpatine was watching? What the hell was that blob in the middle of the concert hall??? |
Re: Star Wars Episode III
the problem i had with how "dark" it was was that darth vader looked like some whiny brat that should have been on dawson's creek... either way, it was the better of the 3, but that's not really saying much at all...

well, you've gotta remember that vader had just transformed into his new self... i'm thinking it took him a while to go from whiny anniken to full fledged badass hehehe. |
Re: Star Wars Episode III
I saw it today, definitely the best of the first 3 movies.
|
Re: Star Wars Episode III
I actually went to see it (Wow, guess other movies were avoiding this release date like the plague!) and I hated it! Maybe it's just me, I'm not big into the whole star wars genre or the whole idea of it. The special effects were pretty good,
SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER DONT READ! but the part where the Jedi are taking over and he goes into the council room where the kid jedis are. And that kid's like they're all dead! And he goes schwunnnnng (pretty sweet light saber sound I'd say!) I started laughing my ass off. Got some nasty looks from some nerd next to me who wanted to threaten me with his lightsabre he brought with him. |
Re: Star Wars Episode III
If I had my way they'd remake all of the epidsodes 4-6 and have them done by Sam Peckenpah (who is dead, but you get the idea).
|
Re: Star Wars Episode III
Speaking of new movies coming out... War of the Worlds is going to ROCK! (Look for me chasing Humvees in a field, I'm close to the camera in a lot of scenes, so if they don't cut me out, I'll be RIGHT in front of it)
|
Re: Star Wars Episode III
Yeah, I'll say this from the point of someone who can't stand Star Wars. This one was pretty damn good.
Malcolm I have one question. If you hate Star Wars why did you go to the movie?LOL I saw the first one and could not even begin to guess how many have come out.
|
Re: Star Wars Episode III
LOL Sorry, let me clarify. I've never been a fan of the NEW Star Wars. AND, since I have those connections at the theater, I can watch private showings for free. So since I get bored sometimes at night and don't have to spend a dime, it's all good for me.
|
Re: Star Wars Episode III
Episode III was by far the best of episodes I- III. I thought the movie was great...comparable to Empire Strikes Back.
I do think us older guys have more attachment to the Star Wars stuff because we grew up in the era of the first Trilogy. Guys older than me would probably have argued that the movies in the 80's were trash where I felt there were alot of good classic movies from that era (wow..I feel old calling 80's movies classics..lol) I loved the Indiana Jones Trilogy, Star Wars, and Back to the Future. Movies nowadays have awesome special effects, but you have to respect how movie makers back in the 80's and before then had to improvise without the use of computer animation. |
Re: Star Wars Episode III
Natalie Portman is the worst actress EVER. She's not even high school play quality.
Natalie Portman is the worst actress EVER. She's not even high school play quality.
she's still a hottie though. and ever is including a lot of shisty actresses like Halle Berry, Paris Hilton, Madonna, and quite a few others. |
Re: Star Wars Episode III
what about the professional? she was pretty convincing as a kid!
|
Re: Star Wars Episode III
I dunno. Natalie Portman really doesn't light my fire. If I saw her on the street I'd be like "Meh."
|
Re: Star Wars Episode III
is anyone collecting the star wars toys from burger king ? my eight year old son and i are, and yesterday i got two of the darth vaders with my value meal ( grand total for meal plus toys was like 6.50 ). any way, i was looking on EBAY last night and there are already people selling the darth vader toy for 22.50 ! thats crazy.
|
Re: Star Wars Episode III
Whaaa?! I have to admit that I've taken a chance on a couple of those. They're pretty cool little things even though I'm not really a fan.
I guess I'm just a fan of pop culture. |
Re: Star Wars Episode III
Natalie Portman is pretty damn hot - in that next door neighbor sort of way.
She's actually a good actress MC, but Lucas' directing style is such that the actors read their lines in a very, very, very dry fashion. She was good as a kid and almost won on Oscar for "The Professional." Go see it, she's damn good for a 14 year old. In addition to Lucas' directing style making Portman look bad, some of the dialogue was trash. Harrison Ford said on the set of "Star Wars: A New Hope," "Geroge, you can write this shit, but you can't say it." |
