Redskins vs Rams pre game thread

Got another tough game this week at home. Hopefully the skins will come out on top in this one. I'll stick with my heart on this one and say 21 17 skins. Hopefully I'm right.

Re: Redskins vs Rams pre game thread

We rarely beat the Rams, and the loss is usually due to fluky Skins luck...

So. The new FG kicker, going for a 47 yd FG to put us 9 points up with 15 seconds to go, kicks it short, and the Rams have a returner back because of this post, who catches the ball, returns it for a touchdown which gives the Rams the 21-20 win.

I'm going with a 27-13 loss to the Rams. We put up a good fight but struggle with the run while the Rams throw the ball at will..

Given what special teams has.looked like... Raving Austin could have a field day... Other than that, they have a great defense ... We might be in trouble

Rams have a solid deep D, I hope the skins somehow beat the rams. Jeff Fisher is a punk after the bullshit he pulled last year and would love to see the skins beat his ass and Gregg Williams.

The only hope I have for this one is the rams have a letdown after beating seahawks. Unlike the dolphins, Rams are loaded and could easily win NFCW

Another test for our offensive line. I hope the team doesn't squander early scoring opportunities again.

I really want to see crowder play. I really like that kid.

I'm full on drinking the kool aid. Kirk picks apart their d. 315 yds 4 tds one int. Morris 125 yds 2 tds. 30-3 skins take it.

Go look at the Rams' Defense box score vs the Seasquawks from last week. Arron Donald, welcome to stardom...guy was out of his mind last week.

Re: Redskins vs Rams pre game thread

We have to remember that while the Seahawks are a better team than us, their offensive line really isn't that great. I would say a similar game-plan to the Dolphins one and we should be OK if we don't miss opportunities. Rams offense doesn't scare me at all. Sucks I'm worried about their ST scoring 14+ on us.

Skins4Eva 09-16-2015 09:26 AM

Re: Redskins vs Rams pre game thread

That Rams D is no joke, expect a very conservative game plan offensively again. Not sure we are deep enough talent-wise to compete with the Rams (our injuries this week will be our undoing). With D Jax out, Alfmo will face 8-in-the-box all day and that wont be good for us...Don't even see this as a close game... Rams 31-Redskins 13

Chico23231 09-16-2015 09:45 AM

Re: Redskins vs Rams pre game thread

I expect another short, quick passing game from the Kirk and the offense. I have faith in Alfmo and matt jones in the running game...id like to see screen game and bootlegs a little more from Cousins.

I think our defense can handle the Rams..expect low scoring

20-16 Rams

Donald is not that big, but is fast. Who on the OL will be his matchup? We still need to contain Long and Quinn+ Brockers. Ouch!!

Probably another low scoring game. Rams 20 Skins 13.

We def have alot to worry about, but we were able to limit Suh and Wake who are just as good. Im excited by the test, we are facing probably 2 top 5 Dlines in the first two weeks of the season.

I think Schreff and Kory L will take turns with Donald.

OL needs to bring their A game for this game in order for us to win. I have faith in Callahan to have them ready.

Darrel Young did a really good job last week...he gets lost in the shuffle. I know we have our TE issues with the run blocking, but DY more than made up for it. Look for him to hit guys in the hole and get out on LB.

I think DY earned some touches last week...he is another guy we could get involved running and especially passing out the back field.

Id like to see Jay open it up to more guys this week i.e: DY, a second TE, and Crowder

Yeah, having Callahan there looks like it's going to propel the OL into respectability quick. I think people forget just how much a good position coach can help a team.

I think success last week will give them some confidence and if they can hold their own against the Rams DL could really have them playing well this year which will help settle the entire offense this year.

Re: Redskins vs Rams pre game thread

I'm actually worried about Trent Williams this game. There are always 1-2 "speed" rushers that he seems to have a problem with. Quinn is one of those guys. He can absolutely handle anyone that's a bull-rush guy or in between, but when he has trouble, it's against speed guys.

Re: Redskins vs Rams pre game thread

Redskins SS Jeron Johnson "has fallen out of favor" with the coaching staff.

Johnson was signed as a free agent away from the Seahawks in March and was expected to be the starting strong safety. Duke Ihenacho later beat him out for the job, and after Ihenacho's season-ending broken wrist in Week 1, Johnson still isn't expected to see the field

per the washington post

trenton robinson I think has played well

Re: Redskins vs Rams pre game thread

Honestly, this game makes me nervous more than most on our schedule. STL has a nasty D, and they always seem to play us well (and we often piss ourselves against them). And the Rams special teams are among the best in the league.

This game will say a lot about our respective teams -- is STL for real, or do they just match up well against the Seahawks? Has their offense become legit with Foles and their speed receivers? Is our O line capable of consistent good performances against strong defenses? Can Kirk get into a rhythm, and can we find anyone capable of establishing a deep threat with DJax out? Can our secondary play 60 minutes? (Heck, can they play 45?) And can our coaching staff dial up some imaginative plays against a strong defense?

And will there be more blue & gold than burgundy & gold at FedEx? (The amount of teal last week was disturbing.)

I think this will end up more high scoring than last week, but I am not optimistic we will win. Rams 27, Skins 21.

Re: Redskins vs Rams pre game thread

Run game: The gameplan can carry over for the most part. The game plan for Suh can be applied to Donald.

Overall run game thoughts:
(1) Commitment to the run. Its gonna be needed because the Rams are actually betteragainst the run then Miami.

(2) Running creatively. If base run game fails/struggles (don't count on our TEs to block the POA) there need to be contingency running plans. I think running from spread i.e. forcing the defense to take a LB or DT off the field through personnel groupings and alignment

Passing game: The Rams secondary is average. There is no Brent Grimes or Rashard Jones. The quality of their pass defense is a function on their pass rush. Looking at the numbers and personnel Miami's pass defense is better then the Rams.

Moreso then the Fins this game I can see the passing game being more of a factor and putting a little (not the whole game but a little) more on Kirk's shoulders to attack their secondary.

Like Bill Parcel's used to say 'think players not plays'. And the forgotten man in our passing game has been Garcon. I want to see Pierre involved in the gameplan early so he and Kirk can start to feel good and get a rhythm. Something easy like a screen and a hitch. But Garcon needs help through scheme to get open. Its something Kyle did very will, stack formations, bunch formations etc. There need to be 'Garcon' specific plays early and often.

Keep using Reed, especially use him to help identify coverage. Move him around, split him out wide. Involve Carrier in similar fashion.

I think the next man up is not Ross or Roberts but Grant. To complement Garcon it helps having someone out there that can run the route tree AND can seperate on their own without the aid of scheme.

maybe trent robinson is actually good?

we didn't pay johnson enough to be too worried about it, and i haven't seen enough of either to really know one way or the other. the defense played well last week though with robinson in (amerson was the weakest link, followed by maybe k robinson in coverage), so i'm going to trust the decision was based on play and not contract or reputation.

I am more disappointed in Johnson's lack of ST impact then safety play. I thought he was one of those ST surehit guys.

Hmmm, how will we lose this game? Will we dominate the first 3 quarters and then fall apart in the 4th? Will we fall behind right away and lose by 20? Maybe our new kicker will miss a short field goal as time expires! I can't wait to find out!

It would be nice to see close to 40 rushing attempts again. If we have to rely on Kirk I definitely do not see us winning.

I was reading through this thread and really gained a lot of respect for the Rams D.

Especially their D-line.

I didn't see much of their game, except for a few highlights here and there.

I checked the stats .......and WOW, was I surprised.

Who knew we'd be watching the 5th rated NFL Defense in this game??

Even more surprising..........

the 5th rated D is the 'Skins !!!!!

My bold prediction for the week.....

'Skins shear the Sheep 31- 17

We will lose this game if we don't score early on when we have opportunities to do so.

We will win this game if our running game can overcome the Rams' D-line and if the team takes advantage of early scoring opportunities.
