PFW - Whispers
One scout told PFW the Redskins appeared to have hit it big with first-round pick QB Jason Campbell, if the rare poise and performance he showed in his first minicamp is any indication. He said Campbell looked like "the next Doug Williams" and that "Joe Gibbs knew what he was getting (in Campbell)."
Mike Barrow might not be the only big name let go by the Redskins after June 1. Other candidates to be released for salary-cap purposes include WR Rod Gardner, PK John Hall (if the staff feels good about Jeff Chandler) and RB-RS Chad Morton. Gardner was offered around at draft time, but no one met the Redskins' trade demands, so he could be let go. A source close to the Miami (Fla.) program who has talked to Redskins FS Sean Taylor this spring said the second-year player has tried to escape the limelight after a tough rookie season but one that was filled with promise. The source expects Taylor to report to training camp on time in July. Head coach Joe Gibbs also said he thought Taylor's absence from minicamp has nothing to do with unhappiness over his current contract. |
Re: PFW - Whispers
Wow, so much for the great JetSkins experiment. Looks like Coles, Morton and Hall will have cost us a lot of money and draft picks, without much of a return. Randy Thomas is a stud though!
I hope that the Skins will release these guys and use it as a lesson about building through the draft and being financially conservative. Except, wait, we dont have a first round pick next year. Sigh, lets hope Campbell is the real deal they say he is, cause god knows I would have loved Mike Williams and Marlin Jackson in burgundy and gold... |
Re: PFW - Whispers
I might have to eat crow and THANK Gibbs if the above blurb about Campbell is true. I wanted Mike Williams at #9 and Marlin Jackson at #25.
|
Re: PFW - Whispers
Wow I hope they're right about Campbell.

You and me both (eating crow that is..........I wanted Rogers and Roddy White). |
Re: PFW - Whispers
Just like we always say...
That's why we don't have three Lombardi trophies. :) |
Re: PFW - Whispers
Not much new here with these whispers. I still think it's way too early to judge what we have with Campbell. I mean c'mon, so he looked good in shorts tossing around the rock in minicamp, sorry but I need alot more before I'll say I'm impressed. If he's still looking good in training camp and in the preseason it's worth whispering about. Until then save me the hype from these wise unnamed scouts.

I AGREE 100%........But I sure do get excited when I hear anything good about Campbell..........I WANT so badly to believe in Gibbs' pick of Campbell! Peace to Morton/50-50/Hall..........chandler looks as though he can get it done cheaper.. Brown looks like he can break it everytime he touches it.....and gardner......well McCants can create the separation Gardner did underneath and has a hell of a lot better hands than 50/50. |
Re: PFW - Whispers
I say we shut down the website until camp since nothing new is going to develop. Just kidding.
Please note that I said, "if the above blurb is true." I by no means meant to say that just because one unidentified scout said Campbell looked good in the mini-camp that we should get ready to win the Lombardi trophy. BUT, I think many on the site would be pleased to hear that a scout thought he looked like a steal. |
Re: PFW - Whispers
The only thing that matters is this, is Campbell Hall of Fame bound??
;) |

Re: PFW - Whispers
Come on now. With all this talk, we're going to get a lecture from SC. :)

Amen Brother, I agree 100% - 50/50 is too damn funny! What's the deal with brown? I mean, is it me or does he have that kind of crazy/effortless/Dante Hall type running motion? Kind of like he is going down hill on rollerblades? Morton sucks, and was product of the old regime, I'm glad we got Thomas though. . .I still feel bad about Coles, the guy was nails, but he was a headcase. . . |
Re: PFW - Whispers
I wouldn't even say headcase. I don't know how we went so wrong with Coles. Personally, I would love to still have him even though I think Moss can be just as good if not better.

Brown is going to break a few this year......IF he can take care of the rock during returns! |
Re: PFW - Whispers
I like Brown, but he's only returned 1 kickoff (even if it was a sweet return).

Yea.......taking it to the house is not going to happen very often but working with a short field sure could help a 30th ranked offense find some confidence! I believe Brown can be a punt returner as well as work kickoffs........and could put us in good situations when it comes to field position, which is a VERY VALUABLE ASPECT OF THE GAME!!!! |
Re: PFW - Whispers
YES IT IS!!!!
I do think that Brown is quite shifty and speedy. I thought he had a couple good returns if I remember correctly. I guess you're taking off for the Cowboys fumble? :) |

Finally word's of wisdom. Probably half the guy's on this board could look good throwing the ball in a mini camp. |
Finally word's of wisdom.

The knock on him is his intelligence. The questions remain: can he run Gibbs' offense and can he read a NFL defense. We won't know those answers until he sees live game action. |

Re: PFW - Whispers
Right. And please dear God just give us a W this year. Just one (two preferably) against the Cowboys.
|
Re: PFW - Whispers
MalcolmConnection,
Brown only returned one kickoff, but he returned several punts. He had one sweet kickoff return (his only one) and had a few good punt returns. However, it's way too early to compare him to the human joystick. |
The only thing that matters is this, is Campbell Hall of Fame bound??
;)
Sorry Matty... Only one rookie has ever been enshrined in Canton before taking his 1st snap in the NFL. Can you guess who? Answer: Mike Vick |
Re: PFW - Whispers
I'll be entertained to see if Vick EVER makes it to Canton.
|
Re: PFW - Whispers
Mike Vick is a long, long way from Canton. The guy can run, but his passing game is mediocre. The supposedly accurate and strong armed-Vick has yet to put together a decent passing attack. He has yet to put up a 3,000 yard season! Last season was the first time he completed more than 55% of his passes (he was 56%). He's only thrown for 6,600 yards and 36 touchdowns in four seasons! Ramsey has thrown for 5,400 yards and 33 touchdowns in 3 seasons. His career QB rating is just 2 points better than Ramsey's.

Your kidding right? You are not saying Vick and Ramsey are comprable? Vick single-handedly makes the Falcons a playoff team. While Ramsey's throwing stats are close to Vicks, (I know you already know this but) the threat of Vick breaking off 65 yard TD run at any time is what sets him apart from any other NFL QB. He runs something like a 4.4 to 4.3 forty yard dash. Ramsey does not yet (by himself) make the Redskins a playoff team. You guys are underestimating the large amount of attention NFL Defense's have to pay to Vick. That opens up the rest of field for his teamates. You can not measure that by stats. Stats are overated. There is only two other QB with that kind of ability to change a games outcome: Petyton Manning and Bret Farve. I am ot sure why Vick gets bashed so much? Is he an asshole? |
Re: PFW - Whispers
Career Rushing Stats;
Ramsey in three years : 80 yds Vick in four years: 2223 yds Micheal Vick ran for an amazing 902 yards last season. He almost broke 1000 yards! Plus add to that he risks injury much more than other Qb's by running so much. |

Micheal Vick is an amazing player; his run ability makes the Falcons offense dangerous on every single play. However, as a passer, he is very, very average. No one is saying Ramsey is as good or better than Vick at all; I'd take Vick any day. However if you take Vicks speed away from him, he is probaboloy not even a starting QB in the league. Your focus on his running stats, pretty much makes the point. Thats the reason he is such a dangerous QB. |

Thanks, you read my mind. I will never say Vick is as good as Ramsey. Ramsey's better....j/k. I'm just saying, as you pointed out, that Vick isn't that good of a passer. But he's definately one of the most exciting players to watch and could develop into one of the best QBs. He's just got a long way to go in the passing game. If I were truly comparing Ramsey and Vick, I'd talk about their respective W-L records - where there's no contest. |
Re: PFW - Whispers
i think vick is good and he is exciting to watch but he is , without a doubt, one of the most OVERRATED players in the nfl.
|
Re: PFW - Whispers
One thing about Vick, let's remember, he doesn't have any WRs. His best receiver is Crumpler (and he's great) but he doesn't exactly have many options in the passing game. As he gets older I think his passing game will get better and better.
How many HOF QBs made it without having at least above average receivers? |

But, he also had an sweet running game which should have made his average receivers look better. Also, with his feet requiring additional coverage, his recievers should have been able to get open and they did. Moreover, McNabb did more with less in Philly before TO, as did Brees in San Diego (who's receiving corps was far worse than ATL's), as did Kurt Warner (who's only receiver was Toomer), as did Brett Favre before Walker et al became good the past two seasons, and so on. |
Re: PFW - Whispers
Not having good WRs isn't Vicks' problem right now, he just hasn't evolved into a complete QB yet who is able to scan the field properly and spread the ball around.
