Su'a Cravens

I'm thinking we just drafted a safety.
This kid looks very exciting and quite versatile.

This is my favorite pick so far. Our defense has needed someone like this for so long. A Monte Colemen type of defender that can cover TE's.

Re: Su'a Cravens

This guy name just kept popping up leading to the draft as someone to watch...driving out of work yesterday Jay mohr was talking about him as the best lb in coverage and most underrated lb overall.

This guy will be a package type this year, but my guess is will lb for the future.

West coast correspondent sfredskins, I know your happy...you see him play a lot?

Hybrid. He's a LB and he's a Safety. His true position is Football Player.

Just watched Cravens' interview. Loved his closing lines:
"I'm very upset. I just found out I can't get into the facilities until May 13th. You are going to have keep locked down b/c I want to get in and work." or words to that effect.

Re: Su'a Cravens

Su'a Cravens.

He's a prospect that was discussed early in some of the draft threads.
At the beginning of the draft process, aftering watching Su'a play actual football I would have pegged him as late 1st/ early 2nd round prospect.

Personally I think he made a mistake not transforming/making the decision to be a S and not a LB and to transform his body from a LB to S during the offseason. I think the extra weight he put on to play LB slows him down. Consequently he didn't run/test well at the combine.
But, when you watch this kid on tape...he balls.
[YT]ZMdAkq2voTU[/YT]

I hope, we use him as true SS and not LB. As a SS I think he can really help the run game. Our S play, especially from SS was very poor in the run game. Goldson 'took' tackles more then he 'made' tackles. I know some will question his speed. I know I do.

But the tape says he can play and I hope he plays Strong Safety.

40 time and game speed are two different things. He plays fast and is smart. Love this pick

Re: Su'a Cravens

Yea, I'm thinking more and more the is our safety and "dime Linebacker".
Our tight end adversaries just forfeited a lot of catches.

Heard he's going to wear #36 in honor of Sean Taylor.

I saw that as well, I feel he will have the biggest impact of our rookies

Re: Su'a Cravens

I would like to see him around his freshmen year weight ~215.

Su'a may not be interchangeable between SS and FS but as a true SS I love the fit.
Afterall how many snaps does Cam or Deone play at FS?
Plug Su'a into the box and let him wreck shop...as on old school moveable chess piece SS.
Run D, Pass coverage, Blitz.

I'm trying not to get too hype, and I hope he is granted the room to make the unavoidable mistakes rookie S make.

Re: Su'a Cravens

I like the pick even more because we were still able to get Fuller in the 3rd round, who I wanted in the 2nd. Adding Norman, Cravens, Fuller, and Ioannidis (I've read on quite a few sites how underrated he is, got a lot of credit for getting him) to our defense, we are greatly improved. Daniels is an awesome run stuffer, which we need, but he probably won't be in our nickel or dime packages, so he won't play much. Hopefully he contributes on special teams.

Wasn't his call- our coaches made him switch it up... They moved him around to cover up some holes defensively. He was balling out before 2014 as a safety and then stepped up when they moved him to strong side. His versatility had him positioned all over the field.

By far, the best pickup in the draft! This kid reminds me a lot of Sean Taylor. Love his attitude of wanting to get in and start working.

But imho once the season was over however; I thought he should have declared himself a Safety. And dedicated himself to turning his body back into a S and therefore would have performed better at near 215 then at 226. I would like to see him get back to 215 and imo that speed and agility will return.

But there's no doubt the kid can play.

I agree. Speed is very important to his game. It will be even more important to him in the pros. Cravens as a 215 pound SS is a mad wrecking ball all over the field. He's a wild card for us and i just hope the Skins use him the right way. Turn him loose!

Who cares about the combine??

I'm impressed by a lot of those highlights, but what impresses me the most is his blitzing ability. Holy shit.

Re: Su'a Cravens

The only reason this dude fell is because he doesn't have the "ideal" speed for a safety, or the "ideal" size for linebacker. Disruptive ballers like this get brand new positions made up for them if your D coordinator has balls. Nice pick, sure money this guy is a fan favorite.

Re: Su'a Cravens
Who cares about the combine??
My reason for mentioning the combine performance was to explain why myself and some others think his timed speed isn't the issue it appears to be based on the numbers posted at the combine which are a reference point for many fans.

TLDR-Su'a is faster then his posted 40 time because he was carry about ~10lbs over his natural weight

Cravens working at LB first in rookie camp.

I hope they make a decision early on in the process to start him and leave him at SS.

Re: Su'a Cravens
● Su’a Cravens continued to work exclusively at second-team inside linebacker for a second straight week during team drills. Barry said eventually, he will expand his duties to play some safety and some nickelback. But for now, he continues to work to master one position before branching out to others. Cravens looked more sure of himself this week as he dropped back in coverage, recognized things unfolding before him and adjusted accordingly. But he’s still only scratching the surface, Barry says.
Let him scratch the rest of the surface at SS where he belongs.
