Camps, OTAs, Etc. Etc
One of the most interesting nuggets from this story is that last year's 7th round pick, Austin Reiter, a C has added 12 to 15 lbs of muscle coming into camp.
He has a much bigger frame than Lict to begin with and would be around 310ish now. Lict gained weight last year and came in around 295ish. https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/football-insider/wp/2016/05/14/observations-from-redskins-rookie-minicamp/?tid=hybrid_collaborative_1_na Not saying he is going to be the next C, but he might be in the mix or be a back up. |
Re: Camps, OTAs, Etc. Etc
I don't think this means anything really but certainly isn't a surprise:
WR DeSean Jackson a no-show at Redskins' 1st voluntary OTAs | Pro32: Head to Head I hope he is doing hamstring strengthening stuff in Cali. |
Re: Camps, OTAs, Etc. Etc
Redskins receiver DeSean Jackson is not at today's voluntary practice session. Jackson has a $500,000 workout bonus he won't collect
So if he won't collect the 1/2 million is that mean that we recoup that amount in the salary cap? |

A real competition at the C position could only be a good thing for the team. Keith Marshall was mentioned in the same article. I really want to see what he can do. He has all the physical tools a team could want and he's very bright so I feel that he'll learn the position quickly. He believes that his knee injuries are behind him now. If so, I'm hoping we got a steal in the draft. |

Re: Camps, OTAs, Etc. Etc
DJax not showing is another story about nothing. It's a voluntary OTA and "voluntary" means you don't have to show up. I am pretty sure his teammates aren't all that bent out of shape about it.
At the same time, I wish I was rich enough to forgo 500K in order to skip a week of relatively light work. ($500K for a week enters the land of "What wouldn't I do for that?") |
Re: Camps, OTAs, Etc. Etc
Saw a comment on one of the articles that made me LOL:
"Hell, for $5,000 I'll show up, do some stretches and watch some film." |

Re: Camps, OTAs, Etc. Etc
This guy is got talent if only he can stay out of trouble. We need a 4th pass rusher.

LOLOL. Did they literally get so high, they both fell asleep while waiting on their food? LMAO. |
Re: Camps, OTAs, Etc. Etc
Tarik El-Bashir: "In Washington, Jefferson will join a corps of OLBs that includes veterans Ryan Kerrigan and Trent Murphy, rookie standout Preston Smith and reserve Houston Bates."
Tarik is slippin'. He didn't even mention Junior Galette among our OLB's. So, will Jefferson last months, weeks, or days? |

One cut zone scheme runner who would have fit absolutely perfectly in the Shanahan running scheme. We'll see how much more power we use as we move into the 2nd year with Callahan. I'm comfortable with seeing what we have at RB in training camp, and then calling Pierre Thomas if we need to at that point. |

Well it's kind of a big deal and it isnt.On the one hand it's voluntary and I doubt none of his teammates have their panties in a bunch about him skipping it,except the missing out on a 500,000 bonus for a week of light work kinda makes it a big deal.:mad:I mean thats frickin ridiculous,he's not Bill Gates rich. And it could cause jealousy among his teammates that he makes so much money he can say fock it to 500 grand. If If this was Dez Bryant skipping a workout for 500 grand many of us would be all over his ass Now if Djax goes out and has a good season and we do well it will all be forgot about, but if it doesnt go that way it will become more media fodder and they will make it a big deal again,IMO |
Re: Camps, OTAs, Etc. Etc
Nobody really cares about guys missing OTA's. It's something that twists the fan's panties, that's about it.
|
Re: Camps, OTAs, Etc. Etc
Yeah if you're a rookie, or new to the team, it seems extra important to make them. You need all the time you can get to learn the playbook. But a vet, especially a smart one that knows the playbook like Jackson? It has exactly no bearing on the season.
I don't think it had anything to do with his hammy injury last year, either. |
Nobody really cares about guys missing OTA's. It's something that twists the fan's panties, that's about it.
My reaction is it would be the opposite of that.I dont care if he misses, you dont care, schneed doesnt care, but I would think his coaches and some of his teammates would, especially if he's the only guy who's a no show.I dont know if he is the only guy,I'm just sayin. Since I'm not tuned into the local DC radio sports stations,I dont know what the fan reaction is there about it. And let me reiterate,if the 500,000 bonus wasnt involved,it would be much more of a non story and maybe it still will be.Like I said earlier,if the season goes well it will be a non story,if it doesnt then this will most likely be brought up again and used against him,you know how that shit goes. |
Re: Camps, OTAs, Etc. Etc
It's his bonus, I doubt any of his teammates care what he does with his own time. Sure the coaches would probably like him to be there, but its voluntary work and they can't do a damn thing about it. In the end no one is losing any sleep over it.
|
Re: Camps, OTAs, Etc. Etc
If the leaders on the team are good with it, everyone else will get in line. Cousins and Hall have both publicly expressed zero problem with it. I'm sure others agree.

Re: Camps, OTAs, Etc. Etc
Five Hundred Thousand Dollars! That alone makes it a big deal because it is incomprehensible to most people that he could leave that much easy money on the table. What could he possibly be doing that is worth passing up that money? He must be losing his mind!

That's a question nobody really cares about. How much athletes value their money? Who cares. The only pertinent question, if you're a fan, is how this will affect the 2016 season. Answer: none. |

Desean is in a contract year...maybe the last of his career. I expect he will be bringing it this year. Lets wait preseason before freaking out

If I am one of the <$1M players, I am just shaking my head and laughing "Damn, must be nice" and saying to the coaches "Yo, Jay! I run DeSean's routes for you this week for the low, low price of $ 250K!" |

I was going to say this. If he has other obligations that are bringing in more revenue for him...then it may be a business decision on his part. He does have other outlets that bring money in. I kind of co.pare it to my work environtemnt...if I have a voluntary day, and I miss...none of my Co workers bat an eye. And they actually agree with me missing if I'm doing side work and getting paid more than if I had come in. |

Re: Camps, OTAs, Etc. Etc
The Redskins are putting up with Jackson because they don't have anyone better. As soon as someone else is ready to take his spot, or he loses at step, he's gone.
No big deal on the offseason stuff. But it will be when he pulls his hamstring during training camp. And I would bet that he'll have some kind of issue in training camp. |
Re: Camps, OTAs, Etc. Etc
Desean jax is a beast and people seem to forget that our offense took off when he got back on the field last year. The element he brings isn't easily obtained. D coordinators have to game plan for his ability to spread the field.
If desean comes out with a hot start to the season, McC should extend him. |

He fell into a blocking sled and messed up his shoulder which caused him to miss TC. Thats not really something that can be controlled other than having moved the blocking sled prior to that incident. He pulled him hamstring in the first game where he went from sitting on the sideline during TC to running full speed in the real games. As for your first paragraph, that applies to everyone in the NFL. Players, Coaches, and GMs have to deal with that on a daily basis. Its just part of the job. If we had someone better than Trent at LT, he would have never gotten his new contract. That is nothing more than business as usual in the NFL. |
