Skins Pre-Preseason Prediction Posts
With the first Preseason game this week, What season predictions is everyone feeling antsy to make, without seeing any live game action yet.
I'll start with a few wishful's KC will top 4500yds and 35 TD's Su'a Cravens will become a force in the middle of the field Breeland and Norman will be the talk of the NFL talking heads by week 3. and a negative or two KC will see his INTs will climb over 20, including one 4 Int game our Run Defense will be 25th or worse in the league, mainly because teams will choose to run and use TE's rather than challenge Breeland/Norman. What does everyone else see as possible for this team? |

Cooley echoed something from late last week on his show this morning about the offensive line. Bostic was on with Walker and Mitchell and Bostic commented the guards, including Scherff, are soft, that they didn't want to hit anybody. Walker agreed and started calling for Nseke to get a shot at guard. Cooley seconded the observation this morning that the guards have been soft in camp thus far. This is huge because our run game (just like Dallas two years ago) can have a huge impact on our defense and of course the passing game. I really believe our ability to run the ball will have the biggest impact on whether there is improvement from last year. There is a big difference in hitting the D in camp versus the other color in a game. We will all see on Thursday if there is anything to it. The second thing from the show this morning that is really disappointing is Cooley's comments on Doctson. Cooley says he has been a big disappointment in camp thus far beyond the injury and has doubts about whether he loves football based on his attitude. I'm becoming concerned about him as #1 draft pick. |

Put up or shut up time.
9-7 record is my HOPE. |

Re: Skins Pre-Preseason Prediction Posts
Skins go 8 and 8 facing a tougher schedule, but we see standout offensive line play and a somewhat improved defense. Cousins passes for almost 4,000 yards, but also throws 20 + interceptions mostly due to being forced to throw so much as we are frequently behind late in the games. Running game again struggles with no clear starter, but Matt Jones is serviceable and manages 800 yards rushing. Tag used on Cousins again next off season as Skins still don't know which way they want to go at QB.

Re: Skins Pre-Preseason Prediction Posts
Playoffs again, maybe deeper it all depends on the injury bug.

I think this nails it. Do I want us to do well - yes. Do I buy into all the preseason hype (like every year) - yes. But the above summary is much more likely. Hoping we get D-line, C, OG, safety, OLB, RB - next year. |

Re: Skins Pre-Preseason Prediction Posts
BS soft?? Yeah right. Not buying that. Looking for him and Moses to take that next step hopefully. However wouldn't mind seeing TN get a shot at LG. He's been more than solid when he's been in there. He and Moses are very very large human beings. Lerib and Long are barely serviceable NFL players.
This team still has flaws. 7 or 8 wins is where I see things. |

KC isn't going to throw 20 plus ints. Just stop with that nonsense. |
Re: Skins Pre-Preseason Prediction Posts
20 picks would be almost doubling his total from last year, yeah I don't see that happening either.

Really love this stat from football outsiders...they take a look interceptions, interceptions percentages and most important, how many times interceptions were dropped which should have caught and intercepted. Basically, its an analysis of just how careless QBs are when throwing the ball. As we can see, Cousins did a damn good job last year. He improved versus the biggest obstacle of his career, interceptions and what was more amazing, he did it with a lack of a good Running game. He would have to take a full step back to throw 20 int....its not impossible, but improbable. |

Re: Skins Pre-Preseason Prediction Posts
11-5. Division champs. Winning a home playoff game.
|
Re: Skins Pre-Preseason Prediction Posts
Our defense is really weak at the line of scrimmage, and up the middle. Running back position is really bad. We've gotten some big strengths, but also some really weak positions.
I think 500 would be good with our schedule, so 8-8. |
Re: Skins Pre-Preseason Prediction Posts
We beat the browns, lions, ravens, vikings, and bears. We go atleast 4-2 in the division. Steal just one - maybe Pitt at home in a fired up atmosphere - and thats ten.
|
Re: Skins Pre-Preseason Prediction Posts
Our defense is better (younger), offense is better (lots of depth) KC is better, running game will surprise (Marshall was at one time a 5 star recruit).

Re: Skins Pre-Preseason Prediction Posts
I'm a little surprised so many don't seem to think we can improve on last year.

Im thinking it is mainly our schedule. It is brutal. That being said we have improved. I do not know enough about every team we play. Maybe some of last years better teams take a step back. |
Re: Skins Pre-Preseason Prediction Posts
I don't get too caught up in the schedule. There are teams on there now that won't live up to expectations, and there are teams that will surprise you, and it all depends on when you play a team, they can be hot or cold depending on the week.

Could not agree more. Injuries? Suspensions? Bell is gone for our first game. That definitely tips the scales. Just saying that our schedule is probably 85 % the reason for the boards lack of faith. Other 15% probably due to our last 20 years or so of pre-season dreams turning to nightmares. Lol. |

Bunch of debbie downers up in this piece. We've got a QB on the rise and plenty of weapons. As long as the D is middle of the pack I think we've got a real shot at repeating as division champs and making some noise in the playoffs.

We take care of business in the division we are all good. Philly is a fucking beautiful trainwreck...Dallas defense is terrible with a QB out of his prime, and the Giants have flipped a roster with a first time head coach....I like our chances. |
Re: Skins Pre-Preseason Prediction Posts
. . . tough call . . . before Gillette injury (and i can't stand him) would have said 9 - 7 to 10 - 6 . . . now i am leaning towards one more loss at 9 - 7 or 8 - 8 . . . and while i don't put too much stock in strength of schedule, our this year is brutal . . . and there are some teams on it that we KNOW will be damn good (Arizona, Carolina, Pittsburgh, and Green Bay will be tough this year no matter how you look at it unless some crazy shit happens)

Re: Skins Pre-Preseason Prediction Posts
The schedule is tough this year, but I think we are a tougher team than last year. The overall defense IS improved based on the upgrades in the secondary, as well as the development of Preston Smith and Chris Baker. Is it the 85 Bears? Hell no, but the offense has so many weapons that I don't think we need a Top 5 defense. I believe the defense will be much better than these "experts" are predicting. The offense should scare every defense we face. I think the tandem of Matt Jones and Keith Marshall could surprise alot of people this year. I'm not sleeping on Chris Thompson either, I love what he brings to the passing game.
Most pre-season predictions have the Cowboys winning the division, stating the offense is good enough to overcome their porous defense. Conversely they're saying the Redskins offense, while good, isn't good enough to overcome their defensive issues. I would argue the Redskins offense will be every bit as good as Dallas and if you think the Redskins defense isn't better than Dallas, well, I'd say you probably are smoking some pretty good stuff. 10-6, Division Champs. |
Re: Skins Pre-Preseason Prediction Posts
First preseason game hopes:
On offense, starters look good enough and get one or two long drives. On defense, some good run stops and NO long drives - a three and out would be nice. After that, just hoping to get a good look at some of the guys we have been hearing about - would like to see Cravens making good plays against 2nd stringers. Same with Spaight at ILB. Most very super important thing: NO INJURIES |
Re: Skins Pre-Preseason Prediction Posts
We have a QB who is starting to operate in the offense very quickly, getting us into the right checks at the line. He's not great, but the talent around him is very impressive, and the coaches are good enough to put him in position to succeed.
I think our secondary play will be better this year. And I think Matt Jones is going to show out. Brandon Scherff is going to develop into a genuine run blocking strength, and we'll grind out 4.0 yards per carry, despite center being a bit of a weakness. We'll still be vulnerable against the run, and we'll still have only two consistent pass rush threats. 10-6, with a shot at winning a playoff game |
Re: Skins Pre-Preseason Prediction Posts
Cousins was great down the stretch last year. Won alot of games for us. He will be a top 10 talent statistically again this year and than the media will love him.
|
Re: Skins Pre-Preseason Prediction Posts
I think our defense is going to be pretty solid.. If Kirk and Matt come through, this will be a fun season

It happens like this every single year. |
Re: Skins Pre-Preseason Prediction Posts
We have running game issue on both sides of the ball. Other than that, I thing we have a strong passing game and solid pass defense. While I think this is another down year for the NFC East, I think we win it at 9-7 and possibly get 10-6. Not sure we advance in the playoffs.
