Giants Game Plus and Minus

Plus

1. The Skins won a division game they needed to win on the road.
2. They fought hard all the way.
3. Skins won the turnover battle.
4. They had big plays in all three phases.
5. Dustin Hopkins was outstanding! 5 for 5 right down the middle.
6. Trent Williams made an emergency move to LG and played great!
7. The coaches listened to the players and the players delivered.
8. Big Swaggy's huge hit on Eli fired up the team.
9. Backups came in and played well.
10. S'ua Cravens for the win!!!

Minus

1. There were several key injuries.
2. Red Zone troubles continued.
3. Pass rush rarely got home.
4. Skins had trouble stopping the run.
5. Play calling was unimaginative.
6. Clock management was poor.

Hey, we won! We'll take it and move forward. Beat Cleveland!

2nd half defense allowed only 6 points.

Way too many penalties....
And Hopkins is da man!

One more negative:

Missed tackles. More than in the previous 2 games, where I felt there was a HUGE improvement compared to last season. Fix that next week, show this was just a few mistakes.

Also, do you think Trent will be moved to guard till the end of the season? I felt we never ran the ball so well that with him inside...

As amazing as Trent was at LG, I don't think he'll stay there because it is so important to protect the QB's blind side. Also, it would leave us without a backup swing OT on the bench.

I guess they'll move Long to LG if Kory can play and Lauvao can't or Long to C if Kory can't play but Lauvao can. If both Kory and Lauvao are out, they'll probably go with Long at C and Kouandjio at LG.

Trent is too good to move inside permanently.

Re: Giants Game Plus and Minus

Cousins "waking up" was so big for the team. Also, the second half we just allowed 6 points on defense and were playing a lot of depth guys as well as rotating out Bruton on 3rd downs.

If the unit is performing better as a whole with that Oline group in those positions...stick with it. From what I read we ran the ball well with that group.

Re: Giants Game Plus and Minus

Red Zone Production still really bad, Cousins really struggles when he runs out of field.

Pretty awesome to see them get creative with the offensive line.

Nice to see the other team make the big mistakes, instead of us. We have the most pre-snap penalties in the NFL. I read it somewhere, mostly being false starts.

Got to point out we beat 2 teams yesterday...the Giants and the Refs.

I try not to bitch about referees, but DUDE, they where terrrrrible yesterday. The miff punt block into play...the phantom Schreff penalty on the screen, and the Bruton Int call....Im sorry but that stuff was garbage....

But yet they made a point to give norman and odb warnings before the game? So were they TOO focused on that match up?

Im sorry, but the zebras were bad yesterday

Refs fucked us 3 times

Dunbar being pushed beginning of game
Brutton Int in endzone
Murphy hitting Eli personal foul bs

On the bright side they kicked their C for 2 personal fouls

There were atrocious calls on both sides, but.more so against us. I guess the NFL just doesn't care about this shit cause we've seen it for how many years? They continue to do nothing about fixing the issue.

Anyhow, hope we don't see that crew again. They should be fired after that shit yesterday. That was embarrassing.

Mike Pereira clearly disagreed with the miff punt play and the bruton int both were reviewed. Clearly that should be a red flag to the NFL that major game changing plays are being effed up. How is this stuff handled? To me there should be some sort of audit on game changing reviews with outcomes and remediation? I mean this is needs to be transparent with the league and the teams....and probably the fans. its bs.

The Bruton play...Jay was super pissed on the sidelines and I don't blame him

David Burton absolutely intercepted that ball! How did the officials miss that? That would have taken 3 points off the board. Control, butt was on the ground in the end zone, then rolled into the pylon. I give up what is and is not a catch. Also, I thought OBJ had a reception that he fumbled, that they called an incomplete pass. I've been watching the NFL for 30 years and I don't know what a catch is anymore. Its gotten crazy.

THIS! and all the fawking commercials has me not watching anymore. I still like the Redskins but watching a whole game now a days is brutal.

Against similarly skilled teams, if you win the turnover battle you typically win the game. We did that. Cousins still missed on some reads/passes but he didn't turn it over and hit a big play to Jackson. Big improvement from week. Hope this helps get his confidence back.

In the red zone, we get too cute/complex. I feel like the types of plays/formations change way too much when we get down there. Keep it simple stupid.

Feel terrible for Hall. That's the worst negative. The 2nd is, the eagles look great. They smashed Pittsburgh.

Beat Cleveland.

I'd rather have Trent at LT and activate Kouandjio to take over LG while Long takes C. That is if both Lauvao and Kory are out this week.

We don't have a great LG, but we've got 3 OK ones. Kouandjio isn't bad.

There is no way he stays at guard. That was out of pure necessity. He's an awesome LT, you don't move awesome LTs to G. Its nice to know though, if needed, Williams can do it.

Thanks, clearer now.

I still think we really need a center. Neither Kory nor Long are agressive enough at the point of attack, in the running game.

Does anyone have an idea of who could be a good fit next year (draft, FA, trade ...) ?

Re: Giants Game Plus and Minus

t willy at guard reminded me of pop warner; we had a few kids on the team who rarely got to play. when we were up big we would let them run the ball.

we would plug our biggest hitters (usually our top 3 rbs, sometimes our qb, too) in at center and both guard spots, me and the other tackle would stay in our spots. we would create pretty good wholes and let the slow chubby kids carry the rock for a couple yards.

it was awesome to see how happy it made them.

Honestly, I wouldnt mind seeing Trent stay at LG w Ty moving to LT .. just for the browns game. Credit to Callahan for having these back up guys ready and credit to Scot and staff for finding capable young depth. When players are getting plucked from your PS (reiter), its a good problem to have.

Could you imagine our inside run game ... just one game, id like to see it.

If you have the game on DVR go back to the 2nd and 4 with 6:14 left in the 4th.

Trent 1v1 against Harrison and manhandles him. Harrison fires off the snap (I think Harrison was worried and felt he had to) but Trent catches him and twists him back. He still made the tackle but after Jones gets 3 yards.

The best part about it is the next play, the 3rd and 1, Harrison switches sides!

He didn't want any of Trent.

The next play Hankins just dives at Trent's knees and Trent pushes him flat.

He didn't want any either.

With Long or Lavau those would have been 2 yard losses.

I realize pass pro is a concern with Nsekhe at LT but I believe the best players should be on the field.

Do you all really think the line with Kouandjio at LG would be better than the line we saw at the end of the game Sunday?

I don't.

If they don't feel comfortable with Kouandjo at G. They will put TW at guard vs the Browns. That's a guarantee.

Ty is not a guard. TW is versatile enough to play G. He also knows the offense better.

This is all dependent on Koundjo though.

I mentioned before the year started that in 2 or so years. TW needs to consider moving to guard. But that's not today.

Yop... He had a flashy pre-season, but since... Good thing Trent Murphy is doing a pretty good job!

I actually think, if we get better at D-line next year, our defense will work WAAAY better, even without any big improvement on other positions. Disrupting the run game start there, and with more pressure on the QB, pass defense will be just fine.

The biggest plus of em all is that they won.

The biggest minus to me is that once again they had to score in the 29 points just to squeak out a W. This team is going to have a hard time competing with this defense forcing the offense to light up the scoreboard each week.

Plus:
Jameson 'Boyd' Crowder is a bad assistan.
When we needed it most he came through

Saw something vaguely familiar to me...the QB instead of passing the ball gave the ball to this big dude standing behind and that dude ran with the ball...must be a new concept Jay is trying Out

Chris Baker getting fired up and saying something...sometimes all it takes is 1 dude to give damn to get the others going....and as depleted as the defense is they need every spark they can get

Quinton Dunbar

Ben Kotwica+Tres Way

Su'a- but stop playing with my emotions and just start the dude....all he does is make plays

Kirk and the passing game moving the ball and allowing the blueprint to work

Captalizing on the Gmens eff ups

It was a treat to see TW play G. He was great, as usual. He's our best T. He would also be our best G and he would probably be our best C, too. It's too bad we can't clone him four times (Just a joke, Trent).

That said, where do you play him? You play him at LT. There is no question of that. To win in this league, you must keep edge rushers off of your QB, particularly from the blind side. LT is the second most valuable position in NFL, behind only the QB position. He will start at LT against Cleveland.

I agree with this...all indications this offseason is Kouandjo was a disappointment and Ty Nsekhe played extremely well. Silverback is atheletic and quick enough to play guard.

Plus...

Crowder..dude is a player. Great draft pick

Cravens...playmaker. I think he's the only guy from this past draft class that's doing anything. The rest of them are useless right now.

Hopkins....he's been rock solid.

Online...for the most part they've been outstanding in pass pro. Good to see a resemblance of a running game and staying committed to it.

Jackson...keep getting him the ball.

Minus...
McVay...Terrible calls in the red zone, not a good call to run on 3rd and short to close out the game. Have to try and throw there and end the game.

Barry...just don't understand how every team makes 3rd and 14 look so easy. You need to adopt but of course you won't, cause you suck.

Refs...just straight garbage. Bad calls on both sides. I have no idea why the NFL wants this type of shit, but they seem to like it. That entire crew should be fired.

KC..the stats looks good, but you need to pick up your play. The no turnovers was good, but still too many inaccurate passes and missed reads. Right now you look like a 15 million dollar qb, which is fine, just remember that come contract time. The rookie up 95 is outplaying you.

Kerrigan/Smith...might need to draft another pass rusher. I've seen nothing from either of you.

D-line...just no talent so I can't blame these guys. They're playing like I thought they would.

Schneed10 09-27-2016 10:04 AM

Re: Giants Game Plus and Minus

Kirk Cousins is 2nd in the NFL in passing yardage, behind Drew Brees. Cousins has 989 yards through three games, putting him on pace for 5,274 yards on the season.

At the end of the season fans will see that stat and many will conclude he's a franchise QB and should be paid huge long term money. But he's only 9th in yards per attempt and 17th in completion percentage.

Makes you realize how the position is so dependent upon other positions. If Cousins can put up 5,200 yards, what could other QBs do in this offense? Is 5,200 yards even a good thing?

I'd say it means you have enough confidence in your QB to chuck it around the yard, but the same can be said of a lot of QBs. Makes you wonder what a rookie with a good head on his shoulders could do in this offense.

Anyway, lots of time before we have to make a decision on Cousins. I want to see more games like the Giants game: put more balls on point, hit the deep balls when they're there, and get support from the running game.

Couple of things on this post, I agree with some things but disagree with others.

Cravens.... may end up becoming the next Sean Taylor.(yes its still way too early to say that, but anyway...)

Its an O-Line not Online (sorry had to do it. lol)

Agree the Refs are terrible, especially on the Burton INT in the endzone. Show that to 100 people and 99 will say it was a catch.

Finally, everyone wants to burn on Kirk Cousins, but he totally outplayed 2 time Super Bowl champ Eli Manning. Also, did anyone see what Big Ben did on Sunday?...... 3 points. Everyone needs to get off Kirk Cousins.

I agree with you we need to calm down on Cousins. But IMO Big Ben didn't have such a bad game (well not as bad as the score makes it look), he made good throws, it's mainly on his receivers making drops at terrible times and the eagles D-line ripping the O-line apart both on running and passing games. The INT good have gone both ways and was not definitely not on him, good throw, good catch, but even greater play by the DB.

Btw this D-line is scary, I really don't know what we will be able to do against them. I say they do 85% of their defense's job. If we can nullify the D-line we'll be fine... but I really don't know how we could do that.

Regarding KC. I mentioned in another post that he outplayed Manning cause he didn't turn the ball over. And I've always been pro Kirk. But he certainly isn't above criticism. He'd probably be the first to tell you he missed too many plays on Sun.

Re: Giants Game Plus and Minus

The Redskins Defense has 5 total takeaways in three games (which could easily have been 8). Not counting the game ending INT by Cravens, the offense has only managed to scores 6 points off these turnovers.

Special teams has also given the offense good field advantage three times (Cowpukes botched onside kick, fake punt pass-catch by Way/Dunbar, and Crowder's long punt return), and I think we came out with just 3 pts. in these situations.

The offense needs to take advantage of these opportunities and score points.

Red zone issues are troubling. Have to put more points on the board. I think some of it's play calling, execution, lack of a run game. Where is Jordan Reed when we get down there?
