Redskins Sign Donte Whitner
It's official: Donte Whitner is a Redskin.
Per Keim....nice signing....!!!! |
Re: Redskins Sign Donte Whitner
Nice. Totally approve.
|
Re: Redskins Sign Donte Whitner
Good call Sfredkins...I think this could be the type of McC impact signing like Blackmon was last year. Hopefully he stays healthy and can contribute.
|
Re: Redskins Sign Donte Whitner
Yeah this was needed. A hard hitter will inject a bit of attitude, I like it for that reason alone.

Re: Redskins Sign Donte Whitner
Bruton to Injuried Reserve...

OK Chico I like you so I hate for you to have to be the one I freak out on, but guys we know the fucking drill, if you're going to say something like this you need to either provide the link or say it's just your guess, or otherwise STFU. Link or it didn't happen. Don't turn this board to shit. |
Re: Redskins Sign Donte Whitner
Found it. Bruton to IR:

Re: Redskins Sign Donte Whitner
Abraham Lincoln was right!
|
Re: Redskins Sign Donte Whitner
I like it, between this guy and Ihenacho(who should've been playing instead of Bruton IMO) we're better at safety
Still a spot open for DL help |

I confess not to have any real knowledge of the extent of their injuries, but none seems as severe as what DHall experienced (obviously). |

Frankly yes I think so. If a guy has a problem that McCloughan thinks has a chance to linger, he tends to go ahead and get a healthy body instead. Bruton's case was a concussion. Looked like he got his bell rung pretty good on Sunday. Maybe they learned this week he wasn't getting much better. McC seems to like to get a healthy body in such circumstances. |
Re: Redskins Sign Donte Whitner
In addition to Whitner we also signed safety Josh Evans, formerly of Jacksonville, a 6th rounder in 2013. That accounts for the spots vacated by the Reyes release and moving Bruton to IR.
So no room for an addition on DL unless we cut/shelve somebody else. Washington Redskins sign safety Donte Whitner as David Bruton Jr. hits injured reserve |

We need help up front, and Lanier and Ioannidis are not suddenly gonna become big contributors. Surely there's some Dlineman out there we could sign instead of Evans who could have an impact. It's not like they'd be competing for snaps with a group of All-Pros |

We are apparently shifting to a 1-4-6 defense with Baker as the lone DL. Seriously, this is a little baffling to me too, although I can only imagine that is because they have concluded that there's no DL out there better than what we have on the roster, and so we might as well add safety help which we also need/ |

the bigger problem has been the second level tackling. Its been a major problem and bruton wasn't getting it done. Reyes was totally expendable with Hood playing essentially his role at a cheaper price. I would guess Ioannidis may start to get more snaps as he comes along. |
Re: Redskins Sign Donte Whitner
Given that Bruton is pretty banged up, I definitely see the need for safety depth. But yeah I am concerned about the goalline package specifically, Golston and Knighton were pretty stout in that area last year but neither are here now. I wasn't a fan of how we folded like a house of cards and Alfred Morris just waltzed into the end zone. It was a bit too easy for Crowell, too.

Maybe the thinking is that with Whitner, we can do a lot more run blitzing. But I share the concern. |

True. And maybe McC knows there's a DL problem, but just doesn't see anybody out there who could help. Pot Roast is the obvious one but how do we know he's not 400 pounds right now. |
Re: Redskins Sign Donte Whitner
Was reading somewhere that if Pot Roast can just be part of a DT rotation versus strictly NT, they think he could be effective even if he was over-weight. I don't mind this idea if the price was right.

Called that one too. It just makes sense, Brutton was a 4 game wonder, he's done in Washington. Now with his vacant spot DL can be brought up. |
Re: Redskins Sign Donte Whitner
I guess I was wrong with the DL. Another S.

Re: Redskins Sign Donte Whitner
Hall, Breeland, now Bruton... I can see how this secondary needed help.
This also could mean Kerrigan's injury won't last, so they trust they can find a way to bring pressure with him, Smith and Murphy without bringing anybody else at DL. |
Re: Redskins Sign Donte Whitner
was wondering that since both golston and whitner are the same player why not just resign golston? both are stout against the run, and hard hitters, but neither could cover me. it must be about straight cash homie
|
Re: Redskins Sign Donte Whitner
he has to be better than bruton right?????

They play with the same style but I don't think Whitner's play has ever dropped to the level Goldson's did last year. Goldson was bad in coverage and inconsistent in run support last year. Plus Goldson is under contract with ATL. |

Same style player, but nowhere close to equals. Whitner is considerably better. |
Re: Redskins Sign Donte Whitner
are we talking about goldson? pro bowl 2011-2012.
whitner pro bowl 2012-2014, and is 1 year younger than goldson. i like this signing. |

that's what i've been signing all along. he's effective to clog. get him in here! |
Re: Redskins Sign Donte Whitner
Hasn't Wittner been on the street since last off season?? No training camp, OTA or minicamp?? Just not sure he's going to be able to walk on an NFL field at 31 and be up to speed. Plus Cleveland let him go and no one picked him up. What about Rambo?? ...lol.
|
Re: Redskins Sign Donte Whitner
If nothing else, hopefully he teach someone on this team how to tackle.

Agreed.... |
Re: Redskins Sign Donte Whitner
Yea....tackling....
As you approach the ball carrier, launch yourself so your helmet impacts the ball carriers chin, cracking his bicuspid and giving him a Class IV concussion. While this is happening you knock the ball loose with your left hand in a powerful forward jabbing/punching/piston like motion. While the ball carrier is digesting this horror you drive your right hand forward in an uppercut motion and you rupture his jewel package guaranteeing that he cannot reproduce and infect the world with more Cowboy/Eagle/Giant fans. |
