Should We Fear the Cowgirls?
I hate to admit it, but the Cowboys should probably advance into the playoffs. Looking at their roster, they've got plenty of talent and a good coaching staff that could lead to short-term success. The only good thing is that many of their starters are old and overpaid.
Look their roster: QB - Bledsoe (he's old, but dangerous) HB - Julius Jones (looks like a star on the rise) WR - Glenn (has excellent deep speed and good hands) WR - Johnson (he's not a #1 wideout, but an excellent possession receiver) WR - Morgan (he's not as talented as Bryant, but he's an excellent #3e ) TE - Whitten (the guy is a stud) OT - Adams (good and young) OG - Rivera (old, but still a great guard) OG - Allen (ancient, but still good) DT - Glover (not the force he was with the Saints, but still a Pro-Bowler beast) DT - Ferguson (he way overpaid and is getting up there, but still a good run-stopper) DT - Spears (he's a promising young rookie) DE - Ellis (a very good pass rushing end) DE - Ware (he could move to OLB, but he's a big pass rushing threat) MLB - Nguyen (small, but very fast and smart) OLB - Singleton (very fast, but old) OLB - Burnett (a young rook who should be good in run-support, a liability in coverage) CB - Newman (he's got the talent to have a bounce-back year) CB - Henry (he's a decent, physical corner) CB - Glenn (he's an aging Pro-Bowler, but some still think he's a great corner) SS - Williams (nuff said) FS - Hunter (indications are that Hunter will be moved to FS where he could excel) I don't know about you guys, but the Cowboys defense sounds awfully scary to me. The offense has the potential to be effective and explosive, but could fall flat if Bledsoe's age and legs catch up to him. The Cowboys will likely make the playoffs this year and watch their aging stars lead to a bloated cap and dying talent. So, fortunately, their SB run shouldn't last for more than a year or two. |

There's a lot of 'buts' in your post. :oink:

Mostly because, as I pointed out, the big names on their team aren't getting any younger. |
Re: Should We Fear the Cowgirls?
i'm actually not too impressed with thier team. i see them being only marginaly better than they were last year. i honestly believe that the skins have better skill position players than they do on offense and on defense, hell the skins might have better players all the way around if you really think about it. the success of dallas is much like the success of the skins, it all depends on the play of thr qbs.
|
Re: Should We Fear the Cowgirls?
i think the cowboys, giants and skins will all take a step foward towards knocking the eagles out of first place in the east.

Re: Should We Fear the Cowgirls?
Doesn't really matter how good they are on paper. They've kicked our asses even when they sucked!

Re: Should We Fear the Cowgirls?
lmao this has to be one of the funniest threads i've ever read. the cowboys . . . .good. . .mwahhahahahahahah. don't kid yourself, the cowgirls might be the offseason paper champs this year, but as we've seen in the past, it doesn't amount to anything on the field.
|
Re: Should We Fear the Cowgirls?
i think it's a three way race for off season paper champs.
my three are. 1) dallas 2) ravens 3) vikes if i've left a team out who you think deserves to be in there let me know |
Re: Should We Fear the Cowgirls?
The Eagles were among the winners of the 2004 offseason (with monster splashes like T.O. and Kearse and the re-acquisition of Trotter) and they didn't do too poorly if I recall. Simply because the Redskins made a mistake in 2000 and expected to win the Super Bowl doesn't somehow mean that improving your roster on paper in the offseason won't help your team in the regular season.

From the past? Are you referring to the Redskins 2000 and 2002 offseasons? I hope your not constructing a bright-line rule based on two offseasons. BTW, care to make a friendly wager re: Cowboys W-L record? |
Re: Should We Fear the Cowgirls?
i don't like to bet money, mainly cuz i lose too often. but i will say this. the cowgirls will not have a winning record this season. im not making that rule based on our two offseasons as you mentioned, im just saying you can't say a team will automatically be better based on the moves they made in the offseason.

the eagles weren't exactly paper champs though. they brought in 1 high profile name on offense and 1 high profile name on defense. i'm talking more about teams that bring in a couple high profile names on both sides of the ball, not just one on each. plus the eagles were already a very good team just adding 2 players is a good thing in a situation like that. a team that is struggling , on the other hand, can be hurt by adding to many new guys.( previously the redskins ) |

Re: Should We Fear the Cowgirls?
The Cowboys whole season will hinge on Bledsoe. Can he play well enough and give the Cowboys a legit passing attack? The past two seasons he's been pretty average, but with Julius Jones an average passing game may be all they need to win 9 or 10 games.

Okay, that's fair enough. But, I disagree with you contention that they will not have a winning record. They'll go 9-7 IMHO. |
Re: Should We Fear the Cowgirls?
I don't agree with your assesment of the quaterback position. I think thats whats gonna keep the cowboys from being an elite team.

And for us, the question is does Williams know more about how to disrupt Bledsoe than Bledsoe knows how to burn a Williams defense. I think that Williams will exploit every weakness Bledsoe has when we meet. |
Re: Should We Fear the Cowgirls?
I know Dallas has a knack for beating us every year, but this one might very well be different. Our team seemed to improve as the year continued while Dallas struggled with team unity (not to mention Parcells' criticism for the team). Here's to hoping that my signature phrase becomes a reality. :food-smil

Re: Should We Fear the Cowgirls?
you forgot the chiefs. but hey i think we are by far a better team than the cowboys. i just can't wait til the season start i have a feeling that we are to have a season like the chargers did last year. if we can stay injury free from our core guys we are going to make some noise.
|
Re: Should We Fear the Cowgirls?
I will be surprised if the Cowboys aren't at least 8-8 this coming season.
Or, maybe we can face them in the NFC championship game and beat them like we did our first Super Bowl win year! |
Re: Should We Fear the Cowgirls?
I dont think this coming season is one to fear the cowboys. I think give them anohter year or two, and I think they will be a force to be reckoned with. Alot depends on Bledsoe or Henson, whoever is the starter by the years end. I think their defense is going to be very good by midseason of this year; but I think they will struggle early. So this year; I dont think they are a team to fear .Beyond this year, I think they will be very good.
|
Re: Should We Fear the Cowgirls?
seriously, i think the cowboys will be good this year, like ramseyfan said, maybe 9-7, but i don't consider them a team that will earn home field advantage during the playoffs. they have a lot to prove, and i think we have the advantage because bledsoe is their starting quarterback, and gregg williams knows a lot about the way he plays from his days in buffalo.
|
Re: Should We Fear the Cowgirls?
bledsoe is definately not the qb he once was. he has lost most of his game.

Bledsoe has played with very good RBs and WRs in Buffalo. His achilles heel has been lack of pass protection and his inability to get rid of the ball or affinity for getting sacked if you will. The Cowboys are not really as talented as the Bills in terms of core players and I'm not really sure if the boys O-line will be any good this year. If I was a betting man I'd say Mr. Bledsoe is officially in the same category as Vinny Testaverde and Kurt Warner. Simply put, FLAT! I do think the boys will muster at least 9 wins. Let's just hope non of them are curtsy of the Redskins. Lord knows we have been very generous to them. |
Re: Should We Fear the Cowgirls?
You guys realize that Julius Jones started 7 games after coming back from injury and rushed for 803 yards in those games? That's on pace for a 1840 yard season. The guy is going to be flat out amazing in this league, the next Curtis Martin, and if the Cowboys had him healthy all season long last year they would have been at least 8-8. Add in the defense and improvement at QB, you have to like their chances to get to the playoffs.
And come on guys, as much as we hate him, we all know Parcells knows what he's doing. |
Re: Should We Fear the Cowgirls?
The motto for the Cowboys is to win right now, because I honestly don't see Parcells coaching another two or three seasons. So, it does hinge on Bledsoe's play this year - I think Bill Parcells would like to go out on a high note, but I don't believe he has the paitence to build this team for another two or three years.

Let's not forget, that Bledsoe nearly took the Bills to the playoffs last year after having a miserable start. As to Parcells and the Cowboys O-line, Parcells has said that he is going to offer Bledsoe max-protection and that is one of his top priorities for the year. Parcells is no dummy and realizes that Bledsoe has no feet - he's going to make sure Bledsoe has good protection. That's one of the main reasons they picked up Rivera, who did a fantastic job protecting Favre. |

They've always had a good front four (and now front three), plus they added two 1st rounders (in DeMarcus Ware and Marcus Spears), they added 2nd round linebacker (in Kevin Burnett), anf they now have three good corners in Aaron Glenn, Terrance Newman, and Anthony Henry. With a good running game and defense, you've got yourself a good team (i.e. Steelers and Falcons). |
Re: Should We Fear the Cowgirls?
Lets break errrr down.
Ok QB, they are better at QB but if we really suck with ramsey(i don't think we will) we can throw in the rookie RB- Jones is a rising star as Portis is a proven star WR- i think they are pretty even but i know we have more potential than them. We have more depth and i would take moss over slow fat keyshaun any day. TE- OK they win this battle but remember, ROyal stepped up with 4 TDs in last 5 games.(one against them cowgirls) Ofensive line- they got their dominant 3 we got our dominant 3 the x factors are the other 2 and i am sure that rabach is gonna get errrr done for us this year. Defense- ok our defense is good for no reason. It is good just because it is good. We can't say that we have the best players in the league. we can't say that we sent 5 defensive players to the Probowl but friends we can say that we were the NUMBER 1 DEFENSE IN THE NATIONAL LEAGUE. y? One reason only williams GW. defesive line,ok they are better but we got griffin and daniels and rising star Salavae. LB- ok don't even compare. WE don't have the best linebackers in the league but they are the best, if you get what i mean. We had the "no name defense" but now people know them. Our LBs last year (washington pierce and MARSHALL) surprised everyone. This year we have better players at the LB position- Lavar. washington. mccune, possibly barrow. and holdman and the more depth than we need. and i would take our LBs any day over theirs DBs- CBs they have henry now and newman is pretty good but it doesn't compare to springs, rogers harris wilds and JIMOH- remember we put harris and wilds in there with randy moss and still did good. FS- no comparison SS- Ok they might be better. Offensive- The have better QBs, TE we have better RBs and i would take our WRcorp over theirs and don't forget our HB cooooooooooley Defense the have better dline and ss we have better everything else. So it is almost even at offense we beat em at D but the x factor is coaches and who got 3 rings and who got 2. and who had belichik and who didn't. We will win atleast 1 next year we only lost by 6 total points last year and the first game was b/c of them damn refs. and we did get beat the second game, fairly but we could have won |
Re: Should We Fear the Cowgirls?
BigSKINBauer,
Some of the above post I definately agree with. But the following I have to disagree with: (1) They've definately got us at TE.....Royal just doesn't compare to Whitten. (2) We had the #3 defense last year...in terms of yards/game (3) Salave'a was decent DT, but I don't think he's a "rising star" (4) They've got a better group of CBs in Glenn, Newman, and Henry. (5) I hardly think a few series is a good enough basis to say Wilds and Jimoh are going to Honolulu any time soon....or will even crack a starting lineup. (6) SS "they might be better"......not even Taylor is as good as Williams....yet....and he plays FS. Bowen, Lott, or Clark aren't even in the same ballpark as Williams. I'm not meaning to single you out, I just disagree with some of your above post. |
Re: Should We Fear the Cowgirls?
marco rivera is out i believe with back surgery right after dallas signed him. he was running on a treadmill and cracked his tail-bone or something. to whom it may concern, i dont think he's gonna do squat this coming up season

My understanding is that Rivera's surgery didn't jeopardize his season. I do hope you're right though about him not doing squat. The Cowboys overpaid last season for the aging Marcellus Wiley; let's hope Rivera follows in Wiley's footsteps. |
Re: Should We Fear the Cowgirls?
I'm not a fan of trying to break a team down position by position, player by player. It just doesn't work in the NFL like it does in MLB or the NBA. In those sports you can say OK at Center the Heat have an advantage with Shaq over Ben Wallace, or at 1B the Cardinals have an advantage with Pujols over the Giants with JT Snow.
In the NFL, no matter how much you break a team down, it still comes down to who fits their schemes better, who is better at coming up with the schemes, and whose players play better as a team. If you look at the Patriots, they'd come up on the short end if you did a player by player matchup with some other playoff teams. But they win. In the NFL, there are a lot of ways to win games. Bottom line is I'm concerned that Bill Parcells knows how to win in many ways, and knows how to deploy his schemes, and he has proven that he knows how to use players that fit his scheme. I'd rather compare our coaching staff to Parcells and the Cowboys coaching staff, rather than go player by player. And might I say, what a matchup it is. I think both the Skins and the Cowboys will be decent teams this year and have a couple epic battles. This is definitely a coach's league. |
Re: Should We Fear the Cowgirls?
i havs a good feeling that the skins are gonna be a more competative team this season than weve seen in a long time. they started to show their competiveness last year but with the players stiil here and the new ones brought in, i'd say "we aint seen nothin yet".
this is going to be a good year to be a skins fan :biggthump |

Re: Should We Fear the Cowgirls?
One of the biggest factors to the Cowboys success that hasn't even been discussed yet is the fact that the Cowboys are switching to the 3-4. This is a huge change in philosophy for a lot of players...the key to the success of the team will be how the DL and LBs adjust....
We know that there offense will be average at best..nothing spectacular with an aging QB and average WRs, Jones will be a horse and Parcells will get the best out of him... |
Re: Should We Fear the Cowgirls?
The cowboys will not be as good as everyone thinks. Bledsoe is good, but he isn't as good as he used to be. He cannot handle the rush. So I think they'll will have problems agianst the skins especially because of Williams blitz schemes. Their line is a big question mark. Rivera has played a steller career with the Green Bay Packers; but he's only been with the Packers, no one knows how he will mesh with a whole new line, it takes years for offensive lines to gel and develop that trust. We should know that better than anyone. Allen has become a mere shadow of his former self. If any of those wideouts get hurt, cowboys don't have the depth to make a true impact in the passing game especially without glenn, he's thier best reciever. the only threat i see on offense is the combination of Julius Jones and A-Train.
As for the defense, it's decent but how will the loss of vetran leadership with dexter and woodson impact their performance. I think the skins future looks alot brighter. |
