According to this article, Barrow, Gardner & Morton could all be axed on Wed., freeing up nearly $4.5M in cap space.

Cutting Hall would save a little cap money, so I guess that's possible. But I doubt they'd do that, they'll probably want to let him and Chandler fight it out through camp. Chandler kicked well for us at the end of last season, but his career has been rough otherwise. I doubt they'd want to rely on him.

As for cutting Brunell, we can't yet. His salary cap situation is still too prohibitive. After June 1, 2006 might make more sense, though.

Thats a good fit Matty....Gardner cant catch and McNabb cant throw a spiral.
I'm sick of hearing how good a QB McNabb is. As far as the NFC goes Daunte Culpepper blows him away.

McNabb is a pimp guys - he is a team leader. I like the way he has handled the entire TO situation.

Also, I get scared every time he drops back against the Skins.

He may have some accuracy problems, but he is a winner.

I agree but I wasnt refering to his personality. I think any QB in his situation regarding TO would have done the same thing. The league and all of it's fans realizes that his contract demands are a joke. Philly obviously has been to the past 4 NFC titles but not because of Donovan. Philly's defense is excellent. While they were middle of the pack in total yards allowed last year, I think they were top 5 in scoring defense. Thats what really matters.

I've followed McNabb since his SU days so even though he's a rival, I'm still a fan.

I'm getting tired of people saying how overrated he is. He took his game to another level last year, his numbers were through the roof. He also took care of his accuracy problems hitting on 64%. Only 8 ints during the regular season, that's sick.

I'd much rather have McNabb over Ramsey, Brunell, or Jason Campbell. We can knock McNabb all we want, but the bottom line is he'd be a serious upgrade over anything we already have here. He's a big-time player.

We also dont have a TO or a QB whos been in the same system for six straight years.
I'm not saying the guy sucks, I'm just saying that everyone is on their knees for this guy just because the eagles have been so successful.

I think McNabb had a great year last year because of TO. I saw him scoop some passes off the ground.

I don't know if TO was the single reason that McNabb's numbers skyrocketed. It is definitely a strange correlation, and I'm sure TO was part of it, but I think a lot of it really WAS McNabb coming into his own.

Anyone we might pick up? Gibbs is always talking about upgrading, and being a place where folks can suceed if they work hard, etc. so I wouldn't be surprised to see a pickup.

Also, how does the rookie cap work with the regular cap? Is all our cap space really going to the rookies? This is obviously a question for Canuck, or any other of y'all capologists.

I definitely agree.

He really came into his own as a pocket passer, TO definitely helped but you've got to give alot of the credit to McNabb.

The NFL gives each team an amount for their "rookie pool", which for us is right around $4 million this year. So, the 2005 cap numbers for all of our draft picks can't exceed that $4 million number. By releasing Morton, Barrow, and Gardner, we'd figure to have at least $5 million in cap room or so. Then if we used up all of our $4 million pool on the draft picks when we sign them in July, that would leave us with $1 million or so to play around with.

the first person who gets credit first is jim johnson, the guy is a genius when it comes to defense and finding hidden gems

next is andy reid, for making mcnabb who he is today. i think alot of coaches would have turned mcnabb into andre ware #2.

third is mcnabb for executing reid's calls for the offense which is strictly built around mcnabb

you cant give anyone more credit than jim johnson,

eagles lose blain bishop, they find michael lewis
eagles lose troy vincent, they find lito shephard
eagles lose bobby taylor, they find sheldon brown
eagles lose hugh douglas, they find derrick burgess

and jim always has them ranked very high with lost players and injuries

ill give him the credit over mcnabb anyday

Yeah TO has the effect of opening up the field. He tends to draw double-teams from safeties, leaving the middle of the field pretty open. LJ Smith showed enough speed this year to threaten that deep-middle part of the field, and hence McNabb had more space to throw into than in years past. Plus, Westbrook has given them a pretty electric receiving option out of the backfield.

In general, their weapons around McNabb were upgraded, so his increase in numbers has to be partially due to his improved teammates.

But you could make the case that McNabb has made the pro bowl several times in his career DESPITE having horrible weapons around him (before last year that is). Now he's just showing what he can do with good talent, and the numbers are pretty sick. It's a testament to his abilities.

Is it just me, or does anyone else want to keep Rod Gardner? I mean, he has his problems, but he has had some really good games, and if we have put up with his inconsistancy and he finally has his breakout year (he's been close before) for the Eagles, Giants or Cowboys I will be sick.

any qb in a west coast style of offense better have a completetion percentage around 60% or so. I mean having 100+ completetions coming out of your backfield teamed up with 60+ completetions to tight ends on short routes is gonna help any qbs completetion percentage. When your total completetions to your rbs and te are greater than your total completetions to all of your wrs, you're in system built to give you a high completetion percentage. And while I still think Mcnabb's accuracy is pretty pathetic at times, I have absolutely nothing but respect (as well as quite a bit of hatred ;) ) for the man's mobility and arm strength.

I think we might as well keep him as long as he'll actually show up. I just don't really see Mccants stepping up as the chain mover and Gardner has always been good for a couple trick plays a year throwing the ball.

it is. griffin got shafted, and even though a.p. plays for the gints now, he got shafted too. shawn springs got shafted also. most of our defense didn't get the credit they deserve. i hate the eagles as a team, but i like donovan mcnabb as a player. he is one of the better qb's in the game, and he deserves the respect he gets.

If it wasn't an issue of money, then sure, keep Gardner. However, Gardner believes he is worth more than what he actually is worth in the eyes of most NFL teams (including the Redskins apparently,) so there is really no way for us to keep Gardner.

I'd like to keep him for this year too. I think McCants is capable of being a chain mover, but I also think Gardner would be better than all but one of hte recivers on our team now. Plus its a contract year, so I think he is going to have a big season. We need the money, so I dont really have a big gripe on the issue, but I think it'd be nice if he stayed.

The rookie cap, as I understand it, is part of the total cap. And in the Redskins' case they have $4.037 million dollars max to spend on their six draft picks. Rogers is slotted to get $1.8 million and Campbell $1 million

TO leaves garcia, garcia bombs, he joins mcnabb, mcnabb booms... not saying thats the only reason (garcia moved to a shithole team with a bad coach etc) but its definatly part of it...

Gardner will be a good pickup for a different team. He just doesn't fit with the Joe Gibbs offense. Joe requires a high level of precision. Gardner drops half his passes. In a quick strike offense (Rams, Chiefs) Gardner could do well. In a grind it out, burn up the clock offense, he is a drive ender.

Honestly, I don't think he'd even fit into the Rams or Chiefs O. He's got to CATCH passes first before he can run with them.
