I think there's more to this than the skins not paying him - but they sure as hell should put a fair market value contract on the table and make KC the bad guy if he won't sign.

Why can't Jay just sit down with the guy and tell him he's the man. He says it in the media, we as fans want him here. Just sign the deal and be happy being part of this city and team who turned you into the pro you are today.

So what is fair market value ? it probably is about the same as the franchise tag now

Report: Kirk Cousins personally asked Redskins owner Dan Snyder to trade him

We all know by now that the relationship between quarterback Kirk Cousins and the Washington Redskins isn’t good. That “How you like me now?” moment last season was telling.

Now we have the most definitive news about where everything stands. ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reported that Cousins personally asked Washington team owner Dan Snyder for a trade. Cousins was “basically told not to get his hopes up,” Mortensen reported.

We have a standoff.

Re: Cousins 3.0, he's going to sign the franchise tag

Why doesn't Dan bring him and his agent to his house like other "franchise changing" free agents?

Kirk might be the first free agent who actually could change the franchise!!!

Treat him like a 5 star recruit at a shady SEC school.

So a lame duck QB behind center next year ..no thanks to that..EITHER sign him long term or move on..I would rather go 6-10 with colt and a plan than 9-7 with Cousins and no plan..either way we miss playoffs and 6-10 gets a better pick in a QB heavy 2018 draft..I am sick of this. And Does it bother you guys that Cousins seems like he feels he has been done wrong..20 million dollars last year and 24 million this year..Why is he complaining?? 44 million for 32 games and he has got sour grapes..I don't get it..they have paid the man!! his little bitty EGO has been hurt..somebody pat him on the head and tell him how great he is...GROW UP COUSINS and quit whining..you have got paid! You blew it in our last game and cost us playoffs and for that you get 44 million..Im not sure i want him on the team anymore..go on to San Fran and lose your ass for the next 4 years..Kyle is going to fall on his face as a head coach..just like Norv Turner ..the only thing i am hoping for is we get compensation for him ..at least a number 1 and send him packing..The redskins with colt will win twice as many games as 69ers with Kirk..

Re: Cousins 3.0, he's going to sign the franchise tag

Should have gone with the San Fran trade and get the extra first round pic. At #2 you could get the best defensive linemen, safety, corner, linebacker in the draft and get your new shiny QB at 17 or vice versa. Only good thing is that if Kirk's stats go to hell, the team can sign him cheaper, and San Fran might not want him after all.

Snyder hates the Shanahan's so much that he refuses to do a deal with SF, that's according to sources around here in SF. In a way I can't blame Snyder, Shanahan ruined RGIII for not benching him and haven't his knee torn, he was never the same after that injury.

I would rather him go to SF, get a better pick but whatever at this point.

Just trade him. We never have a full agreeance on anything really. But I think we have just about a 100% consensus that he doesn't want to be here. Do we want the leader of the team going thru the motions? Someone said they'd rather go 6-10 with Colt than have the same time performance as we did this year with Kirk, I agree.

Draft the QB from Pittsburgh in the 2nd round. We have 10 picks, we can use 1 on a qb.

Re: Cousins 3.0, he's going to sign the franchise tag

Should have used the transition tag before this all went down. Now Cousins either plays on a one year (and see ya later) or he gets traded for peanuts. Meanwhile, there's a good chance the Patriots are going to trade Garoppolo to the Browns for a first. This is a monumental screwup of the tallest order.

That was was my first thought too, however all of next year every time he's on the field he's effectively auditioning for his next gig. Just on a pure selfish level he has a lot of motivation to play well. I think he really wants to show the world that he's the real deal. So I'll take him for one more year even if it's not permanent.

Of course he dislikes the Shanahan's. Mike has basically trolled Snyder ever since he was fired.

He may have asked for a trade but there still is plenty of opportunity to sign him.
If he's going to sign his tender then maybe there has been positive dialogue.
If not then we have a whole year to prepare for acquiring a new quarterback, I really dont care if Cousins is a lame duck or not and I'm not going to spend a whole year gnashing my teeth over it.
No where to go but up......

Re: Cousins 3.0, he's going to sign the franchise tag

Fact is a lame duck qb has a lot to play for. Unless he wants to be out of football and retire with 44M in the bank. Yes he may worry about his health more, but otherwise he would face even more pressure than this year. Last year you figure the pressure was maybe a 5M per year difference - he stinks he gets 19/year and says Yay, he lights it up, wins a SB and walks away with 24M/yr. Next year, given the slide in low tier qbs, if he stinks it up, or gets hurt, he base would probably stay around 18-19, but his pressure to light it up, could net him 30-32M/yr. He would in effect be creating a huge pressure on himself of his own making.

Re: Cousins 3.0, he's going to sign the franchise tag

suppose he plays shaky next year ( we lost Djax ,Garcon) and has a fall off in his play..NOW What will everybody say...I can tell you this same forum will be saying ..looks like somebody knew this about Kirk.glad we did not sign him long term.. Look guys Kirk is good but its not like he is a true franchise guy..(he is the best we have had..but who have we had??) yea yea..he broke a lot of records but any good modern day QB will break records in this pass happy league (they call PI on every other play)..I like kirk but he has some issues that i believe will hurt him ..He needs to grow up a little and not be so thin skinned(no pun)..it seems his ego gets bruised really easy..remember when he would throw a pick and go in the tank..he did improve on that but he is showing the same traits in this whole contract deal..Its like I don't want to play for you guys because you did me wrong by paying me 44 million dollars..(remember he was passed over by a lot of teams in the draft and had he gone to the wrong team things could have been much worse for him..he seems ungrateful to me. We need a LEADER LONG TERM at the QB position ..not somebody showcasing for another team ..so unless he is on board and agrees to a contract that is fair ..say 100-120 million 5 year with incentives then we need to trade him asap for the most we can get. Also think about this IF he truly Thinks he is all that then why with a huge shortage of QB's in league there is not a lot of teams wanting him..Bears,Jets,49ers,browns,texans,bills,broncos all need help and 49ers are the only team showing real interest..you would think the texans or broncos would be calling but it seems they would rather have Tony Romo than Cousins..Im telling you guys Cousins aint all that and smart folks around league know this. The lack of interest in those teams going after him is very telling..

This is the interesting part. I honestly don't know whether to be happy about this, or not. I love Cousins and hope he stays, but if he's leaving for sure, I want something for him.

I would say the Redskins should draft a quarterback but this year's class isn't very deep, and I'd rather them use their higher rounds on the defense.

While Cousins looks destined to stick around in Washington this season, it seems all but certain he will bolt next spring, leaving the Redskins without the quality talent evaluator they ran out of town and a franchise quarterback. Did I miss something. When did BA publicly flog Scot McCloughan? Granted whatever transpired, it doesn't appear that it was handled with awesomeness, but the fact of the matter is, I don't know what the hell transpired - who does besides Scot, BA, and DS? BA might not have told the whole truth when he talked about how Scot's absence was related to his grandmother's death, etc...but is Chick alluding to BA being the anonymous source in Redskins Park talking about the alcohol problem being the reason for his firing?

So, just to be clear, KC, a qb of top but not elite talent, now feels he not only owes it to all following qbs to negotiate an elite level contract, and owes it to all the fellow Skins to choose who he will negotiate that said contract with. Sorry he needs to chill out and realize he's playing a kids game for enough money to feed a small country.

Honestly BA is an excellent contract writer and KCs unwillingness to work with him makes me wonder if he just doesn't like the off ramp clauses Bruce wants to add in.

He's reaching my go the eff away limit.

I'm no expert with all this. Can anyone explain if Kirk can turn down a trade, if say Cleveland came calling? I get that he holds leverage as far as he can just play under the FT and basically walk next year, but if a trade is proposed, and it's not SF, can he block that trade?

Evilgrin 03-10-2017 01:19 PM

Re: Cousins 3.0, he's going to sign the franchise tag

It's pretty simple, sign Kirk and move forward. Don't sign Kirk, then alot of the rumors about contract issues being with BA and DS look pretty accurate. The players liked SM, probably made some people jealous.
