Redskins Make Changes to Front Office Structure
I thought this would merit its own thread. The team has made several changes to its front office structure:

Re: Redskins Make Changes to Front Office Structure
Changes:
Doug Williams, Senior VP of Personnel (3rd highest ranking member behind Snyder, Allen) Eric Schaffer, VP of Football Operations Scott Campbell, Senior Personnel Executive Kyle Smith, Director of College Scouting (son of A.J. Smith) |
Re: Redskins Make Changes to Front Office Structure
This is a PR move, nothing more nothing less.
|
Re: Redskins Make Changes to Front Office Structure
Obviously Allen has structured this in favor of him having most the power in the org. I really don't care at this point, but he needs to win.
His head should be first to roll if things go south. |
Re: Redskins Make Changes to Front Office Structure
I like it. You may also notice at the bottom, Maclin is now a Raven.

100% true, and no one is responsible for anything; cuts, draft picks, or trades |
Re: Redskins Make Changes to Front Office Structure
Still gonna be Allen/Williams/Gruden doing personnel moves for the roster, so I don't think this changes anything. Just a shiny new title for people probably doing the work anyways.
|
Re: Redskins Make Changes to Front Office Structure
I like it, I guess. For those still upset about McC; he was no big lost, if he was so great some other team would have got him by now.
IMO I think we had a very good offseason at least on paper. Don't feed into the negative media shit about the Skins; sign KC to a good contract and the Skins had a very good offseason. |
Re: Redskins Make Changes to Front Office Structure
I like that this clarify the structure of the front office.
To me it seems that Williams and Gruden will be doing the majority of the decisions, with Allen having the final say on major issues (i.e. Cousins' contract, etc., etc.). I think this change gives Gruden more of an opportunity to have input in personnel decisions. Overall the team has had a good offseason so far, with a nice combination of free agency pick ups and draft picks. Now the icing on the cake would be signing Kirk to a long term contract, but that's not going to happen until July. |

Unless you know him personally is it safe to assume he wants a job with another team? I think in the event he has relapsed, operating his own scouting business would be a win-win. He makes money, he still gets to do scouting (which is obviously his forte), he's his own boss (doesn't have to worry about getting fired because his boss is jealous of not getting any credit). Maybe he hasn't taken a job because he doesn't want to take a job. Maybe he hasn't taken a job because he signed a NDA where he still gets paid by the Redskins in exchange for not joining another team. I don't think it's as clear-cut as you make it seem. |
Re: Redskins Make Changes to Front Office Structure
Sounds like some folks think Schaeffer's title should have been GM
Charley Casserly @CharleyCasserly · 42m42 minutes ago The @Redskins Eric Schaeffer the new VP of Football Operations is very talented & could be a President of an NFL team right now Louis RiddickVerified account @LRiddickESPN · 38m38 minutes ago My man Eric Schaffer being named VP of Football Ops in Washington long overdue. He is legit. He should be running the whole show somewhere One thing working against Schaffer, never working in Tampa Bay. |
Re: Redskins Make Changes to Front Office Structure
I'm not sure about his football acumen, but I know from years of wiggling in stupid free agent contracts against a salary cap that he has my full confidence in all contractual matters. With our luck he'll be hired as a team president/gm somewhere next year. Although in all honesty I'm not sure how we've managed to retain him all these years.
|
Re: Redskins Make Changes to Front Office Structure
I'm ok with stability, I like the way we're building the team this offseason, nothing really splashy, but solid football choices so far.
|
Re: Redskins Make Changes to Front Office Structure
Has there ever been any indication that Doug Williams knows anything at all about player personnel? Did i hear you say "No"? Well, that's great then! He's the perfect empty suit with no power to occupy a meaningless title under the autocratic rule of Bruce Allen. Allen has what he wants now. Let's see how he performs without a blueprint from Scot M.

Someone else on here i believe was saying at the time that the redskins had reached some sort of settlement privately with Scott M, i'm just saying that might be part of that... |

The jury is still out, this last draft had McC all over it. Let's see what this guys can do next year.

Re: Redskins Make Changes to Front Office Structure
I was extremely irritated by the press conference. The moves are all fine, they basically formalize the way the 'Skins have basically been operating since McC left. But in the press conference Bruce Allen was incredibly vague about the org structure despite being pointedly asked by Liz Clarke to explain how the hierarchy is set up. And when asked who will have say on various matters, he continues to use the vague phrase "it will be a Redskins decision".
That dancing around just irks me. He's intentionally obfuscating the delineation of responsibility so that everyone remains fuzzy as to whether he deserves credit for successes / blame for failures. It sounds like Scott Campbell has been elevated and I expect him to mostly continue to craft the draft board. Doug's strength is said to be evaluation of character, work ethic, the intangibles. I don't think I want Doug setting the draft board, but I don't think he will. And I think Gruden will continue to be listened to, which is good. So the moves are all fine, I just f'ing hate Allen. He's such a snake. Keep the picture fuzzy so that if it goes well you can claim the success as your own, and if it goes poorly then you can point the finger at others. |

I'd be interested to know what Williams, Schaffer, Campbell say about him when he's not around. I can't imagine they like him, and know he'll blame them as soon as things go wrong. Williams is a Skins hero, Allen, you're not. Tread very lightly. |

I agree with this. Allen's a sleazy politician just like his brother. I wish Bruce would just take the GM job himself. Give him 2-3 years where he is in full control (publicly not just privately). If he has success then great, otherwise he will be accountable for the failure and we can get rid of him. But that won't happen... The more likely scenario in 2 years: "We thank Doug for his service to the organization. Unfortunately the results have been sub-standard, so we felt it was best for the Redskins to make a change. We wish Doug all the best in his future endeavors." |

I should have taken your advice. What a waste of internet space. This basically sums it up(from the article): A year later the GM is gone, coach Jay Gruden is replacing both his coordinators, the quarterback’s future is murky, and D.C. Drama is back. Ok McC got fired? Personally I think he did some good but he was not lighting it on fire; I think this 17 off season has been better then last year.'s off season. McVay left for a HC position, not sure how that is the Skins fault? Actually shows we are grooming coordinators for HC positions; Berry was done with whether McC was here or not, it was a bad hire; is King suggesting we should have kept Berry? Now that been a bad move.We sign KC by 7/15 this off season just got even better. Yeah so I guess the "drama" is back; whatever. The bad press this franchise gets is amazing over nothing. |
Re: Redskins Make Changes to Front Office Structure
King can personally kiss my ass. But the fact that he's an asshole, and yet they followed Scots draft board tells me even more about how much he craves credit. I think we'll be fine, not because of Bruce, but we have the right people in place to none of Bruces credit. If Cousins had been taken care of instead of this dream that we needed RGIII, none of this BS with Cousins would still be going on. A good "President" of a football team would not have us in this predicament. If you want to let your discontent with King cloud your judgement about Bruce, be my guest.

Re: Redskins Make Changes to Front Office Structure
I'm not altogether against some of the changes we've made. In fact I'm very happy we have a DL coach who may be the best in the business. As far as the FA moves we've made, they were on Scots board, not Bruce Allens. I DO remember how happy we were with hiring Scot. Don't remember the same feeling with hiring Bruce. Personally I don't give a shit about who gets the credit as long as we win. I think we're on the right path. Maybe Bruce isn't a complete idiot and actually learned something. I know what the players said, and that means more to me than an egomaniac looking for praise. And that includes Peter King. But it's nice to hear the feedback. Playing devils advocate reveals a lot of opinions you wouldn't always see. HTTR!!!

Re: Redskins Make Changes to Front Office Structure
If there was a power struggle between McC and BA for praise; well that would make them both egomaniacs. BA just happen to win and McC got the boot.
As far as it was "Scott's board" for FA and Draft; lets be honest that is speculation not fact. In all of this I think Gruden's role is very underrated; it would be a much bigger blow to this organization to lose JG over McC. I am also not saying losing McC doesn't hurt; I just think some folks put him at the Jesus level when in reality he was doing Altar Boy level work; good not great. |

To me it seems that he's going to have more of a saying on personnel matters (than perhaps before). I don't think that he (Gruden) had any issues with McC (as I thought before), but I just feel that he is in a better position within the organization (including an extension) than he was before. Aside from contract/money screw ups, which fall in Allen's territory (but he's actually done well in this area I believe), the talent acquisition and performance will fall more on Williams and Gruden. |
Re: Redskins Make Changes to Front Office Structure
This following Scot's board thing is so overrated, it's not as if he put it together by himself, and besides a board is always fluid leading right up to the draft. It's likely there were plenty of changes long after Scot was out of the picture.

Re: Redskins Make Changes to Front Office Structure
Bruce is Dan's bitch. He's obviously gained the owner's trust so it is what it is. He probably shines Dan's shoes and gets him coffee every morning. And because Snyder refuses to talk anymore he needs Allen. I assume he also needs him to do a stadium deal. I really don't think Allen wants to be involved in player evaluation. He and Snyder are probably done in that area as well they should be.That now falls on Williams, Gruden, Campbell, Smith and the scouts. I'm not sure there's anything in Williams past that suggest he's a stud in picking players. But he has a good team around him. We'll just see how it pans out. It's early but can anyone really complain about our draft and free agent moves? I think we've had a very good offseason.

I'm just curious to know if there is a team out there where the top executive vehemently opposes the owner in every way possible. Not that I am dismissing the flaws of both Snyder and Allen, I just find statements like this amusing. |

Not that I am dismissing the flaws of both Snyder and Allen, I just find statements like this amusing.
Why do you find it ammusing? Yes men have no balls and that's exactly what Allen is. That's why I liked Scot so much. It wasn't that he made the perfect moves cause he didn't. But he wanted to do things his way and bring his kind of culture to the team. It rubbed Allen the wrong way so he got fired. Allen's obviously more comfortable with Williams so we will see. Doug has been around football for a real long time so I'm on board with this And btw, I did say we've had a nice off season so I'm not saying this can't work. The Redskins do have very capable people under Bruce and Doug. |
