Preseason game 1 Skins @ Ravens
I know... it's only pre season...
But Redskins football is back in one hour! I'm pumped up! What do you expect from this game? The two players I'm really looking forward to seeing play in pre season are Perine and Zach Brown. A lot of young guys in the secondary, interesting to see how they'll get in the mix ! |
Re: Preseason game 1 Skins @ Ravens thread
i want to see the Alabama boys...young depth receivers...perine

Re: Preseason game 1 Skins @ Ravens
Bad throw by KC, 2-yd run by Kelly, and a KC sack. Not a good start.

Right now Perine has one fumble and is minus 2 yards.

Re: Preseason game 1 Skins @ Ravens thread
Jonathan Allen, Harvey-Clemons and Anderson nice plays

Re: Preseason game 1 Skins @ Ravens
These backups are stinky. I like the Marley kid though, neat pickup.

It's typical. Not a surprise. Both teams don't care much and around the NFL u see the same.

Re: Preseason game 1 Skins @ Ravens thread
Perine will need to hold onto the ball before he can even hold onto a job on this team. Im not seeing the game, sruck working, but, sounds like the flat preseason opener i expected from this group, sadly.
|
Re: Preseason game 1 Skins @ Ravens thread
Things will get better I am sure, but if the overall QB play doesn't vastly improve by the backups, we might be hurting really bad if Kirk does bolt. We might end up drafting a first round qb, even if Kirk stays.
|
Re: Preseason game 1 Skins @ Ravens thread
Defense is rather fun to watch. We are getting to the qb often!!!

Typical vanilla offensive showing. Not one standout, but at this point only the running backs are going to get a workout. |
Re: Preseason game 1 Skins @ Ravens thread
How did Phil Taylor look? Lanier? Any other standouts on the interior D line?

Re: Preseason game 1 Skins @ Ravens thread
good golly, we look like crap.
we may want to cut down to about 40 & pick up the scraps that the Ravens let go. I don't know if its talent level or coaching or both, but they are running laps around our guys. |
Re: Preseason game 1 Skins @ Ravens thread
Less preseason games would be good.

I agree, but the league is going to make $ off of this crap. Thank God I haven't spent one dime on this game!!!!!!!!! A regular snooze fest for Skins fans tonight. We don't look crisp at all. Some nice D play, but our backups look like crap on O. QB play is rusty to say at best. A qb will be drafted probably, what round depends on if we retain Kirk. |

Over a 12 minute possession time difference in favor of Baltimore thus far. Harbaugh had a full game in which to evaluate his talent, Gruden not so much, didn't see a god damn thing. |
Re: Preseason game 1 Skins @ Ravens thread
Offensely poor performance. Thought I saw some encouraging signs on defense, especially from the rookies.

Sufield is a cut. We need to be looking around at a young qb |
Re: Preseason game 1 Skins @ Ravens thread
Meh' it's preseason. Not a lot of bright spots, but yeah I guess the run d looked alright. Secondary depth sucked.
I'm not worried so much about the offense, but I didn't see a starting RB tonight. |
Re: Preseason game 1 Skins @ Ravens thread
VERY VERY DISTURBING!!! Head coach smiling and laughing at end of game...players laughing walking to locker room..I never saw Gibbs do this ! This is a bad sign ..Gruden is not going to be able to call the plays and keep control of team. He looked like he had way too much on his plate..truth is The top teams in this league would use this as how not to coach a team and act after getting blown up..You guys say its just the first pre season game..I say this has been going on long enough..unless something major happens this is a 6 win team at best and after this non effort I would say we are in trouble...Not because of the players BUT because of the HEAD COACH..Gruden has not got this team at all focused on football.
He is too worried about being friends with the players..way to much joking around etc..I have watched training camp and this has been going on a lot..He is going to laugh himself out of a job.. |

Regardless, we need to draft a QB, Kirk or no Kirk. McCoy might need to be replaced as well. Next draft might look like '94 when we got Frerotte and Green |
Re: Preseason game 1 Skins @ Ravens
Its preseason game 1. It means next to nothing. And JG is no JG when it comes to live breathe football. Grudens teams have always started slow here. I honestly think Gibbs would be eating pizza at 3am studying players for this game - Grudens just eating the pizza.

Harbaugh seemed to be coaching to win the game, and he got to see a lot out of what he has tonight. I know it is only week one in the preseason, but I didn't see anyone at RB that looked like a starting caliber NFL back. Our QB depth is really suspect thus far. IF Kirk bolts and we don't draft a QB(s), we are screwed. Our D is OK, can't blame them for the lopsided score as the Ravens enjoyed just about a 12 minute possession advantage over us. The outcome of these preseason games mean nothing, as they really are just for evaluating talent, but I don't think coach really could say he saw much of anything to evaluate anybody in terms of offensive depth. |

Gruden will get the team into rhythm after the first or second regular season game. Its who he is. He doesnt prep these preseason games like real ones and because of that he does lose ground early in the season, BUT he is a good coach once the games count and will have the team in contention for the playoffs and the division. Re: Preseason game 1 Skins @ Ravens thread
The thing is it is all about evaluation of what you have, and he really didn't get much out of this game from the offensive side. You have a mess at RB after game one.

Re: Preseason game 1 Skins @ Ravens thread
Look, the first team offense without most of the starting receivers played 6 plays. Brian Quick had 3 catches. Most of the game they were deep into the depth chart at receiver. I wish I had seen more from the RBs but it's not as though they had much of an opportunity to get a rhythm going. Also, the line looked bad, but we know it is probably our strongest unit, they won't continue to play that poorly. This was not meant to be a true representation of our offense, and so I don't think this warrants an overreaction.
Truth is, the coaches were likely more concerned about seeing more of the defense anyway. That may be why they punted all game instead of going for it on fourth for the hell of it. Maybe not, but they did get some good film for the defense to look at. The secondary depth didn't look great, but Clemons led in tackles. The line and linebackers did alright. Allen, Anderson, Brown and Marley all made some plays. Taylor got a good pressure. Lanier got a sack. It didn't look pretty. And there are clearly some weak spots on this team, but really given the context and the playing time spread out, this is all about evaluating individual performances and I think you can take enough positive away to feel good about it. I'm just going to hope a RB steps up. |

Our first strong O was going to hardly play, so that was fine, but damn, we really have no depth after that judging from game 1. We quite possibly have a qb depth issue as well. |

This play is exactly what we were missing last year in our run defense. Anderson gets upfield and disrupts the edge, and Zach Brown did what he does best, he comes behind and cleans up. Allen will do the same for Brown, forcing RBs to bounce outside so he can run them down. It's a good combo to see already. Edit: Phil Taylor also helped get pressure up the middle and flush the RB out. |

It's pre season, they'll step it up, but I would've liked to see them better prepared than that. -Excited about Zach Brown!!! Efficient on every play so far. Good to see him next to Foster, even if it's on the second unit, they proved they can handle the middle of the field, making plays in the backfield. They also seemed to like playing together! #Brown&Foster4Starters ! |

Again, Phil Taylor pressures up the middle and forces a throw on the run, it's caught, and who's there to clean up with a tackle at the line of scrimmage . . . Zach Brown. |

Allen's sack was beautiful. He penetrates into the backfield pushing past the outside of the guard, Trail LB 48 crosses behind him drawing the OT with him, if the OT had helped double team Allen then Trail had an open lane straight at the QB, and Allen still probably would have gotten a push. The QB has nowhere to step up too throw so he takes off downfield. Meanwhile, Allen maintains control of the OT with his hands, when the QB runs Allen tosses the OT and displays his quick reaction time and athleticism to dive and make the sack. Dude looks legit in his first look, and hearing him after the game, he sounds like he can't wait for more. |
