Re: Chris Thompson inks 2 year extension
One of our best players, guy shows up every time he's asked.
|
Re: Chris Thompson inks 2 year extension
One of the best 3rd down backs in the league
|
Re: Chris Thompson inks 2 year extension
I wont be mad if he gets the ball more coming out of the backfield this year
|
Re: Chris Thompson inks 2 year extension
Our secret weapon. The guy you call a play for when it's 21 all in the 4th quarter with 9 minutes to play. Wheel route. Play action pitch around end. Screen pass. Or play action to him as he picks up a key block on a blitz to give Cousins the time to throw downfield.
|
Re: Chris Thompson inks 2 year extension
Very good move. Wouldn't mind seeing the team do this for some of our other important contributors.
|
Re: Chris Thompson inks 2 year extension
Gotta love a guy like CT especially compared to what we've been hearing about Cravens. CT has overcome injuries and worked his tail off.

Yup. Well deserved for CT, he's an underrated weapon out of the backfield. |
Re: Chris Thompson inks 2 year extension
This will be huge for the Redskins this year. CT is one of my favorite players on the team.

Re: Chris Thompson inks 2 year extension
I have always felt that if he got enough touches, he could give us Devonta Freeman type production, I don't think he would run between the tackles the same way but I think he could give us 1500 yards from scrimmage easy and about 10-12 TDs.
One of my favorite players |

One of my favorite players[/quote] second this...I worry about the wear and tear but dang it...this year would be perfect to at least get more touches our of the backfield just to see how his body responds. |
Re: Chris Thompson inks 2 year extension
Well deserved. Thompson should be on the field more.

I like his current status more. With his injury concerns it should be about maximizing his touches, not trying to make him the workhorse back. I think the current system works because teams forget about him through the game and it allows him to make clutch plays in the 4th. D.Jax and Garcon were great at taking the most coverage, now that they are gone if Pryor/Doctson don't step up we will see more coverage shifted to Crowder/Thompson. I'm not sold on Pryor or Doctson yet so I bet early on we will see Crowder/Thompson get the most coverage until Pryor/Doctson prove themselves. |
Re: Chris Thompson inks 2 year extension
Keim brought it up today with doctson...might not start and Ryan grant could be the 3rd wr this weekend.

Re: Chris Thompson inks 2 year extension
Devonta Freeman is 209 pounds at 5'9". Thompson is 5'8" and 191. He would get injured very quickly if we tried to use him like Freeman. That statement shows an alarming lack of knowledge of NFL football and the rigors that accompany that kind of workload.
The appropriate comparison is Darren Sproles. |
Re: Chris Thompson inks 2 year extension
good team player. makes plays, and does what is ask of him. also, never a complaint

Re: Chris Thompson inks 2 year extension
Love this guy...he's solid, yet humble.

not insane. He's earned a bigger role...like I said before, my preference would be a 60-40 carry split with Fat Rob when the offense is attacking. Id like to see second half "finisher" Perine get carries when we have leads and opponents defensives are tired. Fresh bowling ball to finish the game and punish defenders. |
Re: Chris Thompson inks 2 year extension
thompson is a gem, glad to see him get rewarded.

Re: Chris Thompson inks 2 year extension
I think the redskins are using Chris Thompson perfectly. The comparison of Chris to Darren Sproles is a great compliment to Chris. The contract extension is well-deserved.
|
Re: Chris Thompson inks 2 year extension
I think they use him just right too. He's very productive but with his size you have to keep him on a pitch count.

Definitely deserving of more touches. But Freeman was 12th in the NFL last year in touches among RBs, he touched the ball 281 times. Thompson had 117. Thompson can't give you Freeman production if you don't give him the ball that many times. And you can't give him the ball that many times or he'll break down. You just didn't think. It's OK you're human. I still get to make fun of you though. |
Re: Chris Thompson inks 2 year extension
I like when FSU players play well for Redskins, glad we kept him.
I'm in Tallahassee right now for the 1st time in my life to see them play and game got cancelled. Also was in Atlanta Tuesday to see Braves game for 1st time and that got rained out. Great weather in the southeast. |

The weather is still great here right now. Not supposed to hit until Sunday night or Monday. I'm in shorts and tank top right now. Stadium is pretty sweet. The brick in right field looks way more cool live than on tv. Battery Park is neat. Played brer pong for 1st time in years. |

Supposed to leave Sunday afternoon. Might call Delta and try to leave tomorrow. |

Good things come to good people there. Congrats Mr Thompson.

Re: Chris Thompson inks 2 year extension
Oops wrong thread. Lol

Re: Chris Thompson inks 2 year extension
Great move with Thompson. I've seen enough - do the same with Zach Brown before he reaches free agency after the season.
|
Re: Chris Thompson inks 2 year extension
Chris Thompson= the ghost of Joe Washington....
|
Re: Chris Thompson inks 2 year extension
I realize he's not a "Big Back," but is there any reason that Thompson can't be a three down back? I really believe he is the best RB we have on the roster. Historically, there have been lots of successful every down RB's who were, size-wise, comparable to Thompson:
Thompson is listed at 5' 8", 195 lbs Walter Payton: 5-10, 200lb Barry Sanders: 5-8, 203 Thurman Thomas: 5-10, 200lb Tiki Barber: 5-10, 200lb James Brooks: 5-8, 180lb Clinton Portis: 5-11, 205lb Not suggesting he is a HOF'er in the making, just thinking he would be more of a threat than RK or Perrine. |
Re: Chris Thompson inks 2 year extension
Given his injury history I think it's wise to not overuse him.
|
Re: Chris Thompson inks 2 year extension
I really like the Perrine Thompson tandem. Especially if our staff starts going run first.
