Man, I think we’ve done well for the second consecutive draft. To be honest...Dallas, giants and eagle did well too. I thought Dallas did really well. The east gonna be extremely competitive next year. If we can stay healthy we will compete.

Moses said he fully expected Ty Nseke to get a lot of work at guard in camp. He went on to say, Ty couldn't be expected to make the move to guard in season, from a Friday to a Sunday, but gave the impression he would be trying the position in the off season. I think this is the first person with any credibility say Ty was going to be tried at guard. |
Re: Draft grades
Forgot to mention Tim Settle in there... Between him, Payne, Allen and Ioannidis, our main weakness on defense could become our main strength!

I posted a whole reason why I gave the draft a B+. Server busy message deleted it. So I'll just say B+.

Re: Draft grades
Payne, Guide, Settle, Hamilton, Quinn were great picks. Hamilton would have gone higher if it wasn’t for injuries.
|
Re: Draft grades
If we had gotten edmunds or James in the first, it would be an A+. But i think we more than made up for it getting Guice at the bottom of the 2nd and Settle in the 5th... not to mention trading up for Hamilton in the 6th. This is the most excited I’ve been about a draft class in a long long time.
|
Re: Draft grades
I'm giving the Skins a fucking A. It's been a while since I could say we hit it out the park but that's exactly what this FO did this draft. That was marvelous trading down in the 2nd to pick a guy up that many fans wanted at the #15 spot. It was great value and a hell of a ballsy move. We also added that extra third rounder we lost in the Alex Smith trade so it's like we got Alex Smith for free. Loved our 1st pick in Dayne and by far something we needed desparately. More OL in the 3rd was just gravy and hopefully they can fill that LG spot for a while.

From what I gather, I think 5 teams failed James knee and we were one of those five teams. Besides, this game is won on the front line. A good safety isn't going to be what we need to stop the run consistently. |

Quinn might be a rare gem steal in the 7th. I gave them a B in the draft poll, but then I always do. One can't really grade a draft til at least two years after and see how the guys pan out. I liked our draft 2 years ago and gave it a A, but now it looks like a C at best since some of then aren't even on the team anymore. |

...and a good run stopping d lineman isn’t going to stop the pass consistently. We lost two of our 3 best past defenders in the offseason and haven’t really done much to replace them. Unless James has some catastrophic issue injury, i personally believe our defense as a whole would have been better off with James or Edmunds. It’s a passing league, after all. I’m not really complaining - i think we had An extremely good draft. Just think it could have been a little bit better. |
Re: Draft grades
The move down in the 2nd was serious business. A for that alone. But I like the need-based drafting. Also, I still am a bit shocked when they don't just shit the bed! Post-Vinnie trauma syndrome...

But having a big body pushing the pocket back can help our others big guys and our pass rushers get there. Like Kerrigan often gets outside and down the field a little too much, but if you have Allen, Payne and Ioannidis just moving their guys 4 yards back and forcing the QB move, it can turn into a sack or a stripped ball. |

That's pretty much the way I see it. We had a very strong draft. Needs were addressed. We did more for our ST than we've done in forever. We got back a third round pick and still got Guice. The movement around the draft board was masterful. Yet, we didn't get a player with All-Pro potential when we passed on James, so I had to drop the grade a little. Still, the Skins did a fine job drafting. |
Re: Draft grades
I'll say a solid B for now, hopefully turns into an A this season. Guice is a star in the making, Payne I see as a solid starter too. The rest are ? guys. Settle could be the steal of this draft

Left guard and maybe center is still a major issue. I don't think I've ever seen more runs on first down and our backs were getting hit right after the handoff. We must have lead the league in 2nd and 10 or worse after a 1st down run. |

Second this. Look, its nearly impossible to get everything you need in the draft. Looks like interior Oline just wasn't there and we went with our board. I don't like the Apke pick, BUT I didn't like the Monte Nicholson pick last year either. So I was wrong there...hopefully im wrong here. If the plan is Nsekhe now...then go for it...but Im ACTIVELY looked for Interior Oline help. Post June 1st cuts...also Im looking...Hopefully there is some cuts post draft based on guys drafted who could replace others on their teams. Also, AND I HATE THIS...but Im calling Luavo and discussing him coming into compete for a roster spot. |
Re: Draft grades
B+/A-. Was so pumped at the value we got at each pick. The PSU guy was the only head scratcher to me.
I'm also REALLY amped at our UDFAs. Some of these people were projected as 3rd/4th round picks. |

naw, fuck hope. We need to be active here...your cant tell me Nsekhe and second year player Roullier will be fine and nothing to see here. wrong. We need to be looking and getting plans together to handle obvious depth issues here as well as starters. |

Is it crazy to think Kouandjio is ready to step in? I like the sound of this Welsh kid from Iowa

Re: Draft grades
I generally lower the initial grade because there are so many variables. but this one really seemed to knock it out of the park so I gave it an A. Especially taking into the fact that we got a higher 3rd round pick than we gave to KC.
If this draft doesn't solve our run defense, than nothing will. Sure either Payne or Settle might bust but by getting both you double down on our largest single deficiency. I actually love the Apke pick. That may be my fanglasses, but I think our coaching staff can take him and use his physical attributes to make a strength out of him. Guice is Gucci! All in all, if we don't get many productive players out of this draft, I will be extremely disappointed. |

https://www.landof10.com/iowa/sean-walsh-iowa-washington-redskins
Not sure about Kouandjio, he's a real valuable back up, and he so the job in pass protection, which is a good thing when you just signed a 34 years old QB, but I have too many flashes of him being pushed back in the run game to place my hopes in him at LG. We shouldn't be too worried about Roullier at C though. He had a good rookie year imo. |

Based on how many OL went in the first two rounds, there are going to be a bunch of guards/centers getting released over the next 3-4 months. I get that their current team is letting them go, but some of them may be a better answer than using Nsehke or Arie as the starter |
Re: Draft grades
I think Nsehke might surprise some; we put him in guard spot at last minute and he performed well considering the situation so I would love to see how he play as guard after getting plenty of reps in training camp. We need to acknowledge this is just a band-aid solution, I won't be surprised if he signs with different team after this season but we should be able to find a replacement by then.
Edit: and I'm happy with the draft! I would prefer James than Payne but Payne fills in a huge need and he is one of best DL players in the draft so I am ok with this pick. Guice falling to us in 2nd round even after trading back is fantastic; if Guice is able to grow in NFL then we will be happy with our RB situation for next few years. Guice as first two downs back, CT being 3rd down back and we can use Perine as goal line back. |

Definitely, tough to play guard at his height Anyone remember the Todd Wade experiment at guard? Same situation, big tall dude, fine for a tackle, couldn’t cut it at guard |
