Remember when Shane Matthews wanted to wear #9? |

You right, the number is Theismann's. But if Theismann ok's it I don't see the problem with it. |
Re: Number Seven Belongs To Thiesman
Speaking of which, I'm removing #70 from my sig. It's not nearly as sacred as the others.

Re: Number Seven Belongs To Thiesman
I hate number talk, if JT says it’s ok and I bet he will then it’s a non issue

Re: Number Seven Belongs To Thiesman
Joe already said welcome from one #7 to another. So Haskins is wearing 7

Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
I don't think that necessarily means that he means Haskins will wear #7 with the Redskins. Landon Collins is wearing #20, right? Sorry Matty, I'll all about the numbers. You never cared which # you had when you played sports? |

You never cared which # you had when you played sports?
I care about #21, because S.T.'s career was ripped from him in his prime. Landon Collins could be a HOFer for us but even so I still wouldn't want him trying to do his best ST impersonation. But Theismann hasn't played in 33 years, and gave him his blessing. That's good enough for me. |
Re: Number Seven Belongs To Thiesman
So,i guess that Sonny's no.9 is next,no these youngsters have to respect those who made their mark while here,so being-MVP-winning a Superbowl and going back to back means nothing and if he hadn't gotten hurt Joe would've been at the helm for our other Superbowl victories...let the kid earn his stripes with another number.
|
Re: Number Seven Belongs To Thiesman
Who cares about some punk ass number? If the kid performs well he can wear whatever numbers he wants as far as I'm concern.
|
Re: Number Seven Belongs To Thiesman
The only number that matters is the one in the "w" column. All others are just superstitious hocus pocus.
|
Re: Number Seven Belongs To Thiesman
With the exception of Sean T, I don't care much about numbers. With Sean it's a matter of respect for the dead. With everything else, if a number isn't officially retired then it should be up for grabs. If you want to honor someone, then retire the number. Like, what's so hard about this?

Re: Number Seven Belongs To Thiesman
im with schneed here. whats the big deal?
|
Re: Number Seven Belongs To Thiesman
give it to him on a trial basis. If he sucks take it back lol.
Seriously though I dont care at all, let him wear it |
Re: Number Seven Belongs To Thiesman
Who cares? I love JT but he's not even in the HOF. Why is his number not given out?
|
Re: Number Seven Belongs To Thiesman
If they can give out Russ Grimm's number 68 (and they did), then they can give out number 7.
I can't stand the idea of anyone wearing number 21 after Sean. A great life cut short by an evil act must be honored. |

The first thing Haskins said when asked about wearing #7 was I have to ask Joe Theismann. So don't worry about the lack of respect angle. |
Re: Number Seven Belongs To Thiesman
Joe was a very good but not great QB, although he was with us on some truly great teams. I feel differently about Sean Taylor -- I think his number should be locked down for the reasons everyone was acknowledged.
However, if we're concerned about karma, then don't let anyone touch 7 (or 11 for that matter). I don't like what happened to the last two guys who wore those #s. |
Re: Number Seven Belongs To Thiesman
I don't give a damn if Dwayne Haskins wears #7.....the number hasn't been worn in 34 years out of respect for Joey T....but the number should only be worn if Joey T says it's okay for Haskins to wear it....I'm anxious to see which number Haskins will wear during rookie mini camp in a few short days.

Wow,you guys don't like Joe do you?

Love him, I pretended to be him as a kid in the backyard for years. But I'll remember him just as fondly whether Haskins wears #7 or whether he wears something else. I remember Theismann for Theismann, not for the number he wore. I remember what he did more than anything, won us our first SB. That's not going to change if someone wears his number. That's why I just don't get the number fuss. |
Re: Number Seven Belongs To Thiesman
I don't mind seeing Haskins wearing #7 either. What's the big deal? I think it's probably a better honor to learn to spell Joe Theismann's name right.

Green (28) immediately spring to mind for me. If Haskins wears #7, it won't change those memories of my childhood rooting for those teams one bit. I like the fact that his initial reaction was to say he'd need to talk to Mr. Theismann. I like that a lot and the respect it shows for the team's past. |
Re: Number Seven Belongs To Thiesman
I have no problem with any number that is available including 21. Just do it to be the best you and not because you want to emulate JT or ST

Re: Number Seven Belongs To Thiesman
Per Grant Paulsen
Big #Redskins nugget: Joe Theismann says Dwayne Haskins has decided that he wants to wear No. 7. Theismann has given permission to the rookie QB to do so. Told us he just talked to him on the phone. |

That was MY number." Boo-Hoo. You don't play anymore. You don't wear a jersey. Let it go. Yes, certain exceptions apply (21). But if the only reason you want to "retire" a number is because you were "such an amazing player nobody should ever be allowed to wear that number again".... ? Give me a break. |
Re: Number Seven Belongs To Thiesman
Gotta update my sig.
|
Re: Number Seven Belongs To Thiesman
If a number is not retired, teams issue them out. It is that simple. If JT has issue with it, it is with the organization and not Haskins. That Haskins asked for JTs permission, was out of respect for Theisman and his contributions to the organization.
Personally, I like the behind the scenes negotiating for jersey numbers. Because it usually turns into a healthy donation by the requester to a worthy charity named by other player. Everybody wins. |

Is that a feather in Theismann's cap, or an indication of just how inept the Skins have been since? |

Just don't call it macaroni.

I honestly couldn't picture Haskins wearing any other number except #7......

It can be for sure Joey T was a hell of a competitor and a really good QB. I just am amazed that Gibbs won with Rypien and Williams past his prime. It has been a long long time since we had a good QB who wanted to be here. |

No....just him at OSU.....usually QBs keep the same number from college.....Aaron Rodgers and Montana were a few exceptions. |

Speaking of Montana, he wasn't able to wear Len Dawson's #16 in KC after winning 4 Super Bowls with the 49ers. Haskins won a Rose Bowl. |
