Sean Taylor Charged with Aggravated Assault
Fox Sports radio reports Sean Taylor will turn himself Saturday after being charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
The Redskins star safety in deep trouble. He reportedly fired shots at the home of people he believed had stolen an all-terrain vehicle of his. Taylor has been holding out of Redskins camp all summer in hopes of a new contract. This incident could keep him away from Washington for a while longer. Jun. 4 - 1:12 pm et |

Re: Talyor 2 Be Charged 4 Aggravated Assault
man and I really needed a good laugh today. this kid is a moron. do his parents even care that he is throwing away his future. he has no support group around him at all. the only player that sticks up for him is portis on the skins. this is a huge mess for the skins and taylor, what a shame.

Re: Talyor 2 Be Charged 4 Aggravated Assault
How much would we save in cap space by cuttin' him now?
Innocent until proven guilty--that's the American way, but who says the Redskins (and their fans) have to wait around for this crap? If he's convicted, he'll have to sit out so many games anyway, and that's after he's served his time. How much time can you get for shootin' at someone's house? (Thank God no one, apparently, got hurt.) ...Of course, that assumes he's guilty. I haven't heard of a lot of guys being falsely accused of shooting at someone's house after that someone stole his ATV, but that doesn't mean it isn't possible. Did they find the gun? I'll say this for him, he was a better pick that Winslow. ...but that's not sayin' much. Did I ask how much cap space we can get by cuttin' him now? |
Re: Talyor 2 Be Charged 4 Aggravated Assault
What a waste of great talent. We should dump him.
|
Re: Talyor 2 Be Charged 4 Aggravated Assault
yep. oh well i think we can't just cut him, i would trade him, at least get some value for him because he'll find a new home if we cut him.
|
Re: Talyor 2 Be Charged 4 Aggravated Assault
WITHOUT CONDONING HIS ALLEGED ACTIONS, as usual, let's gain some perspective people... Cutting or trading him isn't an option.. IF he's charged, which seems likely, what are the chances that the charge will stay aggravated assault? For a first time offender, the charge will likely be reduced to reckless endangerment. He probably won't face any jail time and will be on probation, like probably 8-10% of the rest of the players in the NFL. Not to mention the whole 'innocent until proven guilty' thing.. Remember how everyone panicked and rushed to condem him on the DUI? Let's wait until the situation resolves itself completely before cleaning out his locker..

While these problems with ST are getting really old, really fast, I do agree that we should wait this thing out and not overreact. |
Re: Talyor 2 Be Charged 4 Aggravated Assault
This might wake him up.
|
Re: Talyor 2 Be Charged 4 Aggravated Assault
I'm with you Paintrain, we should do what we can to get our money's worth.
...and in that spirit, I'd hope something like the following might happen: *ring* *mumble* Taylor's Mom: "Sean, Mr. Rosenhaus is on the phone." Sean Taylor: "What does he want?" Taylor's Mom: "He says that contract renegotiation isn't goin' so well anymore." Sean Taylor: "Tell him I'll call him back." *mumble* *click* ...forty-five seconds later... *ring* *mumble* Taylor's Mom: "Sean, Mr. Gibbs is on the phone." Sean Taylor: "What does he want?" Taylor's Mom: "He says you can't come to camp unless you renegotiate your contract." Sean Taylor: "Huh? ...Let me talk to him!" Taylor's Mom: "He hung up." |

Agreed, if he is found guilty, he may have breeched his contract; so we could get some $$ back that way too. I want to see how this plays out; but Sean Taylor is really high up on my shit list right now |
Re: Talyor 2 Be Charged 4 Aggravated Assault
He's making the Desmond Howard, Heath Shuler picks look good right now.

Re: Talyor 2 Be Charged 4 Aggravated Assault
The Redskins have made a (non)statement:
http://www.redskins.com/news/newsDetail.jsp?id=7440
"We have just been made aware of a potential situation in Miami regarding Sean Taylor. The representatives for Taylor are keeping us informed as to the developments of the situation. There is nothing we can add to the process at this time."
|
Re: Talyor 2 Be Charged 4 Aggravated Assault
Here's the latest from ESPN:
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2075361
Washington Redskins safety Sean Taylor, described as a "person of interest" in an assault case, turned himself in to Miami-Dade County police on Saturday, ESPN.com's Len Pasquarelli reported. Taylor has been charged with aggravated assault with a firearm, a felony, and simple battery.
|
Re: Talyor 2 Be Charged 4 Aggravated Assault
This is a disaster for the team whether or not he did it. I'm reserving judgment on him until the case develops further. But, as I said, it's still a disaster for the team.
|
Re: Talyor 2 Be Charged 4 Aggravated Assault
I guess we know who wasn't listening when Gibbs said don't embarrass the Redskins
|
Re: Talyor 2 Be Charged 4 Aggravated Assault
So we've probably lost ST for the season (regardless of whether he's innocent/guilty). Now the 2004 defense returns without Taylor, Pierce, or Smoot. What does this mean for our defense?
|
Re: Talyor 2 Be Charged 4 Aggravated Assault
I know we should hold out judgement until all the facts are provided, but this is just depressing. Probably the most phsyically gifted player the team has drafted in god knows how long and he contiously makes completely idiotic decisions that get him in legal trouble and/or ridiculed by the media. I'm just absolutely dumbfounded by Taylor and his knack for always getting himself into hot water with acts that even people with a low level of intelligence would know not to do. :banghead:
|
Re: Talyor 2 Be Charged 4 Aggravated Assault
Are we sure that we have lost Taylor for the season? I'm hoping not and I am hoping this situation wakes him up - I betcha, though, his talking points for a new contract just went out the window. Hopefully his career hasn't went out the window with them.

Re: Talyor 2 Be Charged 4 Aggravated Assault
man o man i can't believe this sh**. my favorite player is looking like the stupidest player in the nfl. it is like a bad dream that i wish i could wake up from. im struggling with a job situation right now and he is getting paid millions and he still want fo right. if i had half of his money i wouldn't do anything of that nature. mistakes are mistakes though hopefully he will learn from this and become a better person and a player.
I guess we know who wasn't listening when Gibbs said don't embarrass the Redskins
Would be kind of funny if the first call he made in jail was to Gibbs, after all these months of not answering his calls..."Hey Coach....just returning your call" Too bad SportsCurmudgeon isn't around for this. He'd totally get off on this. A thread like this is like Internet porn for Curmudgeon. MEATHEAD!!! |
Re: Talyor 2 Be Charged 4 Aggravated Assault
Let's delve into the mind of 1 Sean Taylor for a moment shall we, I can't comprehend what would make this hump with all he has and go out and essentially do a drive by? Regardless if someone stole his SUV or not, this kid should be thrown into jail for 5 years and see if that doesn't straighten him out, talk about a kid who had absolutly no guidance with his upbringing, I would throw his parent's in jail along side of him! His father is a cop as well, what a joke that must be!

Hate to say it by I agree with this. Remember what happened with Ray Lewis. Goddamn Hurricanes - they're all f*ckin crazy and we got the cream of the crop. And I get cursed for being a Notre Dame fan... Someone's got to get this nut under control. Let him direct his anger onto the field, like he did to that Steeler guy. I don't know how much more Gibbs can take at this point. Poor guy comes back to pull us out of the grave and he has to deal with Taylor, Arrington, Coles, Samuels, Moss... Hang in there coach. |
Re: Talyor 2 Be Charged 4 Aggravated Assault
you can take the man outta miami but you cant take miami outta the man
ST!!!.................... |

How do you figure he's lost for the season? He's not being held without bail, the team/league can't do anything to him until the legal process is complete, there's no way he goes to trial for at least 6 months.. Seriously, the overreaction is amazing here fellas.. |
Re: Talyor 2 Be Charged 4 Aggravated Assault
Taylor pointed a firearm at a person during a dispute over an allegedly stolen ATV and demanded to know where the vehicle was, said Miami-Dade police spokeswoman Linda O'Brien.
Now this is a far cry from shooting at a house. Again, NOT CONDONING THE ALLEGED ACTIONS, but I don't know too many first time offenders who are in lockdown for pointing a gun at someone. Everyone take 3 deep breaths and calm the hell down... |

Anyone out there still interested in arguing that it's fine for ST to be down in Miami instead of being at Redskins Park? I can stand this guy and the rest of his "U" hoodlum buddies...

I agree, saying he's done for the year already is jumping the gun a bit, our fine legal system doesn't work that fast fellas |
Re: Talyor 2 Be Charged 4 Aggravated Assault
there are conflicting stories.
one report says taylor shot at a persons home. another says he pointed a gun at someone then left only to come back to beat him up. either way, he will probably plead to a lesser charge. do community service and the nfl will suspend him for the first 4 games. its true our legal system takes far too much time to prosecute someone but i cant image ST actually wanting the case to go to trial. with that said, i still would rather have ST than that pu$$y winslow. i kinda like having a crazy stupid mother f**ker out there at FS. |
Re: Talyor 2 Be Charged 4 Aggravated Assault
WOW he seriously has some problems if he shot at someone's house
To your first point, that's even more reason why people need to chilax for a minute until they reveal exactly the role that he played and the complete charges. As to your second point, I don't think the NFL can suspend him 4 games for a first offense if convicted/plea bargained. I am pretty sure a one game suspension is the max for the first offense. Had he pled/been convicted on the DUI then maybe a 4 game suspension but I'm sure it is less than 4 games for the first offense. |
Re: Talyor 2 Be Charged 4 Aggravated Assault
SI.com is saying something different:
Police said Taylor, 22, was accompanied by his attorney, Fred Moldovan, when he turned himself in. He has been charged with aggravated assault with a firearm and simple battery. According to police, Taylor pointed a gun at someone last Wednesday during a dispute over two all terrain vehicles he claims the victims had stolen. Taylor, who was with others, left the scene but returned about 10 minutes later and assaulted one victim with his fists. Another man, Charles Elwood Caughman, threatened and chased another victim with a baseball bat, police said. Caughman, 19, was arrested later that day and charged with aggravated assault, police said. |

I used to live in FL....if he is convicted, FL Law has a minimum sentence of 5 yrs for those crimes commited with a handgun. He is SCREWED if convicted!!! |
Re: Talyor 2 Be Charged 4 Aggravated Assault
If I had my way, he would be cut, but I understand it doesn't work that way. I really would rather just cut our losses now and move on, even if it hurts us in the short run.

He is SCREWED if convicted!!!
My friend lived in Vero Beach and he's a card-carrying member of the NRA and he told me the same thing - Florida doesn't screw around with criminals who mess with guns. However, a plea agreement is reached in 98% of all criminal cases. I would have to imagine that any such plea agreement would result in a lowering of the weapons charge to a non-firearm related offense. |
