Skins @ Browns Post glorified scrimmage thread (PSW1)
Don't want to read too much into it, but I still think we can have a couple of take aways from it:
1) We have no depth on the OL. None. Zero. Nada. Que dalle. Peau d'zob. Flowers is trash. Kerin is trash. Parris is trash. Bergstorm is not that far up on the trash pile. And we should all pray Geron Christian doesn't start any game at LT this season. 2) The first drive of the game highlighted something we tend to forget: our starting DL is veeery good... but we have close to no depth there either. A part from Tim Settle no back up on this squad is even close to starter material. They made Cleveland's 2nd and 3rd string OL look like Pro Bowlers. 3) Moreland and Holcomb stood out. Love the effort by the rookie ILB, good pursuit, always close to the ball, sheds blocks to make tackles. Looked completely lost on a 3rd blitz though. 4) On defense one of the very few players who had a good night was Ryan Anderson IMO. Never gonna be an elite pass rusher but he's solid against the run and is improving each year. 5) Obviously Kidsy made some nice catches. 6) Haskins' potential is obvious. The 2 INTs made you understand why Jay said "but when he's off he's abnormally off". Liked that he looked more confortable in the second half (ok, against scrubs): don't think he'll be ready week 1 but I think he could learn quite quickly and knows where he has to improve. 7) They kept switching Penn and Christian back and forth in the 2nd quarter, I thought it was obvious Penn is better, would like to see more of him. 8) Wes Martin only played in the 2nd half but I still think that's our LG. I mean he's definitely better than Flowers. |
Re: Skins @ Browns Post glorified scrimmage thread (PSW1)
A speed bump is better than Ereck Flowers.
Every time I see him play I wonder who evaluated him and thought him worthy of a contract. |
Re: Skins @ Browns Post glorified scrimmage thread (PSW1)
Eagles got rolled too so do they suck? PS means nothing when it comes to W/L.
Haskins looked solid other than 2 passes, Case looked good overall. OLINE sucked, but most starters were out. Defense sucked for the same reasons. GET TRENT WILLIAMS BACK ASAP |
Re: Skins @ Browns Post glorified scrimmage thread (PSW1)
With Haskins there was good and bad, although it appears the bad will be correctable with reps and coaching. He definitely has a nice arm and I was impressed with his escapability from the pocket and his couple runs, especially considering his 40 time is in Tom Brady's class.
His foot work can be a little off at times, a few instances he appeared to lean backward when throwing on the run that caused the ball to sail. His footwork isn't glaringly bad, but I have seen a lot of QBs come out of college who had terrible footwork. I always wonder how that can happen. I think if a guy can get away with it in college the coaches don't mess with it. |

Every time I see him play I wonder who evaluated him and thought him worthy of a contract.
True, from time to time people will trip over a speed bump and fall down. Flowers is more like a cardboard cut out. I cannot understand for the life of me what he is doing on an NFL roster. He is worse than terrible, I guess some coaches see potential that none of us fans do. |
Re: Skins @ Browns Post glorified scrimmage thread (PSW1)
Did we make it out of that game with no major injuries? That's all I'm concerned with.
|
Re: Skins @ Browns Post glorified scrimmage thread (PSW1)
Thanks to Spectrum I didn't get to see the game. FU spectrum your services suck and if I had a choice I'd drop your crappy service. I did listen to it on TV and I hope it looked better on TV then i sounded on the radio. Seems like we had 3 or 4 chances to intercept the ball and our players just dropped it.

Re: Skins @ Browns Post glorified scrimmage thread (PSW1)
Call this over reaction, but I would set a stronger tone.
Jay needs to cut someone today. Pick someone who made mistakes or a series of mistakes. As Jay has done in the past and currently with this camp Ive heard the same complaint coming not just media but past Skins players...Jay runs a soft ass camp. He does not hold these guys accountable. Jay should cut someone and set a tone. Im sorry, but 10 points is unacceptable from the offense. |

Re: Skins @ Browns Post glorified scrimmage thread (PSW1)
On that first drive, we had our 2nd and 3rd stringers on the o-line playing against Miles Garrett and Olivier Vernon. So please keep that in mind when you go all Chicken Little.

Re: Skins @ Browns Post glorified scrimmage thread (PSW1)
Did anyone see the rookie WR Ohio st WR last night? Was he out?
|
Re: Skins @ Browns Post glorified scrimmage thread (PSW1)
IMO, the following people should have played at least one series (unless there were health issues)
- Schreff - Moses - Allen - Matt I. - Payne - P. Richardson - T. Quinn I also don't understand why Doctson wasn't out there, dude is competing for a roster spot, he should have played at least a quarter. McLaurin played a snap, I don't get why he wasn't out there either. I know the team is concerned about injuries, but you have a new QB that needs to get in rhythm with receivers; and there are receivers that did not play at all last year because of injury. |

Richardson, in a short amount of time, showed that he was a good WR. I don't get people's hate on him. Sure he got hurt, but he's easily right now the most experience wideout of our whole group. |
Re: Skins @ Browns Post glorified scrimmage thread (PSW1)
On Sheehan's podcast, Cooley talked about the choice to basically not play your starters at all in this first pre-season game.
His point was that after going through camp, it'd be good for the guys to feel good about the team. Everybody knows being a pre-season champ doesn't get you anywhere. But these guys go on the field to win, and I do think the Browns have to feel great about themselves after that first "hurry up offense" drive. Cooley talked about "setting up a tone". I understand Jay's scared of injuries, he should be... but are 15 pre-season plays really going to significantly increase injury risks ? These guys can get hurt during training too... heck you can lose a star player because he did cryotherapy in France... We seem to have this conversation about pre-season not being a great way to get ready for the regular one every year... and I don't think that's an absurd point to be made... but if this team again looks unprepared at the start of this season, something will have to be done, and that's not something you can pin on BA ! Again, not overreacting to a preseason game, I'm actually quite happy with white I saw from several players (only concern is lineS depth), but I just hope this team finally plays to the full potential of its roster... |

Go to 1:19 Gruden should have cut samje Perine this week based on that effort |
Re: Skins @ Browns Post glorified scrimmage thread (PSW1)
I’m convinced at this point that Gruden views McLaurin as his secret weapon, a WR1 lying in wait. Leave him there, don’t wake the sleeping dragon. Unleash him in Philly.

Re: Skins @ Browns Post glorified scrimmage thread (PSW1)
As for takeaways from the Redskins Browns game, there are absolutely none. We sat everybody, they didn’t. I mean our entire offense is Peterson + Guice + Thompson + Reed + McLaurin (yeah, the world will see). None played.
I’ll pass a little judgment based on what I see against Atlanta week 3. Aside from that I expect our cards to be held close to the vest, and then we come out physical in Philadelphia. Still think we’re criminally underrated across the league. |

Guice/Peterson at tb are no joke at all. Seems like the league has forgotten about Derrius Guice. He'll remind everyone why he was so coveted coming out of LSU here soon. |
Re: Skins @ Browns Post glorified scrimmage thread (PSW1)
The whole world criminally underrates the Skins because the Skins have criminally underperformed the past decade and a half. Let the Skins prove it on the field for a couple of seasons.

Sent from my SM-G973U using Tapatalk
Agreed. This team though would look a lot different if they actually stayed healthy for a whole year. That "terrible" Redskins team was actually 6-3 at one point last year before the injuries came at a rapid pace. We are absurdly overdue to stay healthy for awhile. Our running game and dline are going to be forces this year. |
Re: Skins @ Browns Post glorified scrimmage thread (PSW1)
The last two seasons we were 7-9, and in both seasons we were ravaged by injury according to advanced and simple metrics alike.
We’re criminally underrated because that kind of lightning doesn’t strike the same place every year. |
We’re criminally underrated because that kind of lightning doesn’t strike the same place every year.
One would certainly think. Not having TW hurts, but hopefully Penn can hold down the fort. Just wish they'd trade Trent now. It's seriously becoming a distraction.

Re: Skins @ Browns Post glorified scrimmage thread (PSW1)
When people give me shit about the Skins losing a pre season game I tell them about the great pre season of Spurrier.
Would rather look good than bad, but it doesn't matter. Matty is right, give me 0-4 and excellent health week 1. |
