Dunbar demanding trade or release
Per JP Finlay
Just spoke with Quinton Dunbar. He has requested a trade from the Redskins. “I don’t know them and they don’t know me. It is what it is.” Wants to play for a team that will commit long-term. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Re: Dunbar demanding trade or release
Grant his wish and trade his disgruntled ass, no time for drama. Thanks TW for starting this type of shit last year.
|
Re: Dunbar demanding trade or release
5 years in the league and he has never played all 16 due to injury. In the last two seasons he has barely been healthy half the time. Send him packing, time to clear the roster of guys who don't have bodies that will hold up to the rigors of the NFL.
|
Re: Dunbar demanding trade or release
I don’t know them and they don’t know me doesn’t sound like the kind of culture Rivera has been talking about. Gotta take what we can get and set about the process of improving the culture.

Re: Dunbar demanding trade or release
Sheesh!

Re: Dunbar demanding trade or release
Time to weed out the guys that don’t want to be here. See ya Dunny. Nothing personal.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Nah, Rivera needs to talk to him first. Find out where he's coming from. That is, unless they've already talked about his contract and that's why he's upset. Put yourself in his place. If you had Josh Norman opposite you playing like shit, putting more effort into Dancing With The Stars than football, and making $15M per season you'd probably lose it now and then too. |
Re: Dunbar demanding trade or release
Man, these guys may be good at football....but they are ignorant as hell. That is definitely not how you talk when you want to appeal to other teams. I’d be willing to bet he was told to show up and show out this year, then he’d get paid. I’ve liked Dunbar as a player, but this has changed my mind about him a bit.

What good is contract with all these cry babies. |
Re: Dunbar demanding trade or release
When Gibbs 2.0 went down right off the bat he told the players if you don’t want to be here let me know and we’ll trade you.
Rivera is going to do the same thing. All part of the desperately needed culture change. If Dunbar wants out trade him ASAP. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Re: Dunbar demanding trade or release
Yeah ditto with the folks here saying to get guys who want to be here. Just a lil surprised at Dunbar who we gave him the opportunity to develop and gave him a decent extension when no one else would. The problem is he can’t make it thru a whole season. I’d say talk to him and find out what he wants...a reasonable extension...ok. If he truly wants to leave then make it happen.
I’ll echo a concern that Sheehan did a couple weeks ago...Ron hasn’t spoke to TW. Has Ron spoke to Dunny, or will he now? Kinda hard to get a sense of team without talking to your better players, Trent and Dunbar. It’s early tho...SB was a week ago. |

I'm pretty sure this is all on Ron's radar, but I'm sure he has a lot to do before getting to talk to players. Hell, free agency doesn't start for month. |
Re: Dunbar demanding trade or release
Give his agent permission to seek a trade with another team. If there is value there we should trade him, if not, he plays for us or sits.
|
Re: Dunbar demanding trade or release
I wouldn't rush to judgement concerning the man's character. Just because he blew up about his contract doesn't mean he's bad for the culture. Let him calm down and then see what happens.
Also, as a practical matter, if RR were to make an example out of someone and summarily fire him I sincerely doubt that it would be his best cornerback. Maybe someone who is on the taxi squad. As for what Gibbs said about trading players who didn't want to be there. What would Gibbs have said if Russ Grimm had raised his hand? I'll tell you. He would have said "Put your hand down Grimm. You're not going anywhere". That is probably what RR will tell Dunbar. |
Re: Dunbar demanding trade or release
Would be a tough loss, he is our CB1 and has been one of the best man guys over the last 2 years
|
Re: Dunbar demanding trade or release
Gibbs nearly traded Riggo and Williams so I wouldn’t say he was above moving anyone who wanted out.
I’d have concerns with paying Dunbar given his injury history. I’m guessing he’s getting the same vibe from the team. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Re: Dunbar demanding trade or release
He has leverage because he knows we need him, so we'll see what happens. I'd love Okudah but man I really want Chase
|
Re: Dunbar demanding trade or release
Yeah i dont think you can commit a Norman size deal for a guy who shows talent but can’t keep on the field. I would not be opposed to a modest per year deal, but committing 10+ million per year is a tough sell.

He’s above average but not great, Kyle Smith will find someone in the draft. Dunbar is always hurt, if he doesn’t want to be here, get rid of him. |
Re: Dunbar demanding trade or release
I'm going to stop having favorite players. McLaurin is going to be my last favorite player.
|
Re: Dunbar demanding trade or release
Trade Dunbar and sign Bradberry. And draft a minimum of 1 CB and most likely 2.
|
Re: Dunbar demanding trade or release
If RR sits with Dunbar and they figure out a way for him to stay that makes them both happy I'm fine with it...
But hell for now it sure makes Dunbar looks stupid: because they don't know each other and he wants a new contract... he wants to be traded to a new team that he doesn't know either, before knowing for sure if the new regime here is ready to extend him or not... |
Re: Dunbar demanding trade or release
Sucks but you gotta oblige him. Obviously Dunbar wants to be paid in case something like the Foster situation happens with him, and I'm guessing the Redskins don't want to commit too much money to a guy who has trouble staying on the field.
Nothing personal, just business. We only want people who want to be here. |
Re: Dunbar demanding trade or release
No one is paying him top corner money when he's always in the cold tub. He's the best corner on a bad defense. I think Dunbar is a good player but he is not an elite player. He can be replaced. I'd draw a line in the sand, play or stay home.

Bradberry isn't as good as QD and he's certainly not a #1 Corner so we would still need to replace Dunny |

yeah...so the danger is overpaying a much less Corner in Free Agency which IMO is way worse than giving Dunbar a bump in pay. Then you have an over paid bad to avg Corner...at least when Dunbar is on the field he makes the defense better. Go to pro reference.com...his stats the last 2 years on the field are certainly legit. Profootball focus confirms his "ratings" vs others corners. Dunbar is a quality player. I state this...Dunbar may have to go if he wants 10+ mill per year but paying Bradberry 10+ mill isn't the solution. Byron Jones price seems to be rising as well...which I would pass on too if it gets to Norman level. Maybe bringing a Vet, experience CB short term may be the better option. Would Dunbar take a deal 8 Mil per - 3-4 year deal which is essentially a 2-3 year deal? I wouldn't be opposed to that for a quality starting CB. |

And yet you don't have a problem with teams cutting players who are still under contract with the team?
Yeah ditto with the folks here saying to get guys who want to be here. I wouldn't feel comfortable if we go into the season with Moreau and whoever else on our current roster as our #1 and #2 CB. Even if we let Dunbar go and sign a FA CB. This will hurt us. |

I'd much rather keep Dunbar but if he doesn't want to be here, he's gotta go. We will need to replace him but we also need an upgrade at CB2. Bradberry can be that guy. Assuming we draft Chase Young, gonna be hard to find a legit CB1 in the draft and the more elite FA's are gonna be expensive. Might have to hope for major internal improvements and draft a guy that can absolutely contribute right away. Secondary is a major concern right now. Rivera and Smith need to knock it out of the park in that area this offseason. |
Re: Dunbar demanding trade or release
I would look to sign Kendall Fuller and Logan Ryan in FA and trade Dunbar.

The newly turned Safety Kendall Fuller? Sure to come in and play next to Collins.. He's not a great Corner guys... We have a hard time letting former skins go lol. He had 1 good year |

He had a pretty good SB and wasn’t used properly by KC. |

Maybe now is the time to extend him with a decent deal and get ahead of the curve on him if they truly value him...but if he doesn't want to play ball here period, now is when you need to know. |
Re: Dunbar demanding trade or release
In fact Fullers career Coverage grades.
2019 = 66.3 2018 = 70.8 2017 = 91.2 (GREAT YR) 2016 = 54.9 (VERY BAD) |

Had a great SB, but they also have a damn good DC that has won multiple rings.. I wouldn't say they didn't use him properly, he just struggled in coverage. |

How about signing Logan Ryan and Kendall Fuller and keeping Quinton Dunbar? |

Trust your own judgment. We all saw what he can do when he is used properly. Besides, his 2018 and 2019 numbers were decent. Also, he probably won't cost very much so I think he is well worth the slight risk. Personally, I think he has the tools to succeed and I want him back. |
Re: Dunbar demanding trade or release
Let's not overreact.
Dude is just trying to get paid. You can't discard every player that isn't a choirboy and expect to win. The best coaches can get the best out of these diva players. The only culture that matters is a winning culture. |
