Happy Birthday Sean Taylor

He would have been 38 today

Damn, he'd still be young.

I'll never forget the day because I had just salvaged a few hours of sleep...my son had been born the evening before. I walked into my wife's hospital room and the first thing she said was "Sean Taylor was shot" and she had the TV tuned to coverage.

My son has a plaque of him up on his wall in the yellow throwbacks. He asked me just a could of days ago if he'd still be playing.

There's a chance. Ed Reed played until age 36 and Sean was a physical freak.

Happy Birthday!!

His death just pisses me off to this day. All because a few idiots made a stupid decision.

Sometimes it's hard to find the words, like for me and most people here his loss is felt on the field but not beyond that. It's not like our grieving compares to the loss his family feels.

But man, I'm not sure I'll ever love another player like ST. The athleticism, the way it all clicked for him in 2007, I don't know of any other Redskin in my lifetime who put together a highlight reel stretch like he did in 3 1/2 years. The way we've never had a solid replacement for him since he passed. To be taken over some dumb shit right as everything clicks and he got his life in order and it was showing on the field - it still hurts. RIP.

Hard to believe he wouldn't even be 40 yet. All of that seems like it happened last week.

Wow. Crazy that he would probably still be knocking dicks in the dirt today. Makes it even sadder. Being he was a Cane and a Skin he was my favorite player. I remember going to the Bills game with the tribute. Still got my 21 towel. Like Gibbs said on the jumbo tron that day “God take care of Sean and we will see ya when we see ya”. Happy Birthday in heaven to an all time great.

Some out of town fuck went over the Sean Taylor tribute? That was on the red line in a prime spot and it was amazing no 13 year old toys went over it ... then this?

Hope Cert goes back and re does it.

Is this fresh? I know someone tagged over it years ago but I guess Cert went back and re-did it.

I endorse the message but my bias keeps me from endorsing it on that one particular spot.

We wanted to do something long overdue by retiring players' numbers. Months ago we planned for Bobby Mitchell and Sean Taylor to be the first two. Seeing the reaction, I'm very sorry that the short notice does not properly reflect the impact Sean had. President's Brief to come...

I'm calling bullshit.
Jason is only accountable to the person signing his checks.

This stunt screams "Hey look, we like black people".

Bobby Mitchell died years ago and retired 5 million years ago but they want to mention him now?

ST has been gone 14 years. Why not do this at year 10 or 20 of his passing?
Or maybe his 40th birthday?

Darrell Green and Art Monk will be trotted out like show ponies the next time Snyder fucks up.

I hate this fucking team so god damn much.

The main reason Julie D got the job is because of the harassment scandal, u cant convince me otherwise.

Dan is so obvious in what he does, and now here is another FAKE ATTEMPT at showing us all that "Hey we are not like that"

Stupid decision to retire his number. No matter the circumstances of his death this is undeserved and there are plenty of other Redskins that deserve it more (and no I'm not advocating their numbers be retired).

I guess you can contrast the decision for each. One retirement was deserved, and planned out ahead of time, the other is undeserved, not planned out (likely) and comes in the middle of a scandal giving the appearance it is actually an attempt to distract.

Shitty timing on the announcement, really can't figure out the logic there, but I have zero issue with Taylor's # being retired. And a few players have said they were contacted weeks ago about it. So it wasn't just cooked up this week. Again, no idea why they waited this long to announce it.

There are a lot of things that happened to Mitchell long before Snyder took over that would be frowned upon today. I wouldn't call Jack Kent Cooke a racist at all, but I would say he like a lot of owners were more comfortable with a white person in charge of his football team. Mitchell was passed over twice by Cooke for the GM job when he had been there for several years.

Then the shit w/ Snyder and passing out his number to a back up TE and then a few other things that went on, Bobby left the Redskins w/ a sour taste in his mouth. Very sad because if someone deserved to have his number retired many many years ago it was Bobby. To retire #49 after he died just disgusted me personally. I got to meet Mr Mtichell a few times. Such a classy guy.

This thing w/ Taylor is just another long list of screw ups. Kind of disrespectful to give a couple days notice to the fans..

Regardless of Douche Snyder and the pr stunt timing I am happy for ST and his family. Still hard to believe how much of an impact he made in such a short time. Dude was on a collision course with opposing players and the HOF. My imagination probably doesn’t do justice to what would have been.
Played for my alma mater, and us. Probably my favorite player of all time. What an absolute physical specimen and assassin he was. So smart on the field. Good dude. It was a pleasure to watch that man play football.

Absolutely! We just ordered some new #21 Salute to Service jerseys last week to sport at the Broncos game on Halloween!

It was exciting to see him play, and I am glad I had the opportunity to do so.

He was a machine. He had overcome so much, and was on a new collision course with being a family man, and just a remade human being. For me, that just put another layer on the tragedy of that day.

I'll not forget when my wife told me he was shot in the leg. I immediately got goose bumps, and thought he must have got himself into trouble some how. I didn't learn until later that he had passed, and that it had nothing to do with him getting "into trouble". Couldn't believe it, I mean he was just shot in the leg (was what I was thinking at the time).

Sucks. Would have loved to see him continue to grow as a player, a man, a father.

But yeah, he deserves (and Redskins fans deserve) more than three days notice.

Total BS.

Julie Donaldson gave a good interview on the Reese waters show.

- this has been planned for a while, Taylor family knew and made plans
- they asked the family if they wanted to postpone and the family said no
- halftime ceremony and will be streamed
- they all feel horrible about how this was handled

I trust jason wright and Julie Donaldson

I guess we can call this the first major fuck up of the current front office structure as far as off the field stuff goes.

Wright's apology is certainly appreciated, when was the last time we got an apology about anything from this team?

Still, given what we've dealt with the last 20+ years the apology rings a little hollow.
