The Most Fresh & Cordial Political Thread Ever
The last thread ended about as they all do.
I challenge us to make it thru at least 2 pages without anyone personality insulting someone else here. See if we can actually talk about policy. Article from the Cato Institute: Why’s Washington Spending So Much Money? Blame a Faulty Understanding of ‘Rights’ https://www.cato.org/commentary/whys-washington-spending-so-much-money-blame-faulty-understanding-rights "Not since 2001 has Congress balanced the federal budget — and it’s getting worse." 20 years with no federal budget? That's just insane. |
Re: The Most Fresh & Cordial Political Thread Ever
Being serious for a moment here, I have a real choice to make. Do I come in here polite and attempt to help start this thread with a fresh outlook, or do I call out that dogshit article that can be summed up in one sentence: "Poor and lazy people need to stop sucking on the gov't tit and work harder to achieve their goals."
Help me decide SD. PS. I agree the budget should be balanced. |

Help me decide SD. PS. I agree the budget should be balanced.
I have no issue with disagreeing with what you think the primus of the article is. I think we can call out disagreements with the article itself without attacking the poster. My main focus of that article was seeing we haven't had a budget in 20 years now. Basically our government has quit doing a major part of their jobs. To add - There are many more reasons why our debt is so high, that the author of that commentary left out, i.e. endless wars, etc. |

Just specifically saying I have a problem with that article/op-ed. |

Fair enough. This thread is off to a good start lol. I probably could have found a better article about the debt than that one. But when I start a new thread, I like to at least start it with something regarding the subject. Note - I didn't think you were attacking me here. I just meant that in general about any article posted here. At least 1 of us will likely always disagree with anything posted here. We can disagree with a post, article, etc., and have some civility. |

US doing a diplomatic boycott of Olympics yawn. Not really making a sacrifice for our convictions are we? I would have instead been completely happy with a full boycott ( we know that wouldn't happen because of all those bidnesses and their commercials). I would have also loved us to send an entirely muslim/humanitarian diplomatic contingent. Missed opportunity imo.

Let's cordially get this back on track.
If you were emperor for a day and could only implement 1 item, what would it be? Mine would be the federal budget can't be any more than 95% of the previous year's tax revenue. Any savings goes towards paying down the debt. |

Should be a shep, sheep should be plural but that’s neither here nor there. Oh Id tax the shit outta rich motherfuckers who basically pay to have the tax laws on their side instead of milking blood from stones who have no voice. They dont wanna pay taxes than they have the option of donating some of what they owe to charity. (Clarification edit the rest goes to uncle sam - you don’t save money by donating it to charity in this scenario). Gotta stop the rich/poor divide. No it isn’t socialism it is fair. Someone who makes 80 k a year and has to part with say 5 k. Someone who makes 80 million well guess what….. |

Re: The Most Fresh & Cordial Political Thread Ever
In terms of voters, I have never talked to anyone, literally not 1 person, that supports Mitch McConnell. Doesn't matter what side of the fence they are on.
What the hell has been going on in Kentucky? This question can apply to lots of other places too, but some of the other places (Pelosi coming to mind) makes sense. Kentucky is largely conservative and he still keeps winning. There is nothing conservative about him. Conservatives hate him and all democrats hate him. But yet, the turtle lives on. Do any of you guys on the left (not including Manchin) have any people that you're not sure how they are in office as a democrat? |

It used to be in my top 5 until one of my friends who worked with Giffords on the Hill explained the downside. Term limits for congress runs a risk that the unelected congressional staff would eventually acquire all the power - ie they'd become Mandarins. They already wield substantial power on the hill that most of us aren't even aware of. |

Don't confuse conservativism with populism (ie Trump and the Trumpers). He's also the smartest politician in Washington (which is probably why he is the most effective). |

Not saying this is wrong, because I've never heard this perspective before. Genuine question, how would unelected congressional staff acquire more power from term limits? In general, there are definitely way too many unelected people with way too much power on this country. So I wouldn't doubt above could be true to an extent. But would it be worse than getting life long teet suckers like McConnell, Pelosi, Schumer, etc., elected forever? |

See, this is why I couldn't find an image of you in our image guessing chain in the other thread, that I thought had any chance of being accurate. You're a wild card. I haven't talked to you enough to try to get an accurate read on you (by internet standards). Now, I only "know" 1 person that supports Mitch McConnell, lol. And no doubt he is smart, all of those guys/girls that have stayed in office forever are smart. But there are lots of smart people that don't use it for the benefit of others. Edit - I found you... Since you bring up being off the rocker and on the street, I want to broach the school shooting in Michigan. Hearing that the school had a meeting with parents about a drawing of a gun and bleeding figures that says "the thoughts won't stop, help me. My life is useless. Blood everywhere." and they kept him in school is awful. This is a significant problem that we don't have more school psychologists and social workers, that schools do not have the authority to remove this student directly at the time of an incident like this (this is not exclusive to that school district, most schools just are not given that autonomy by state governments and local jurisdictions). I am actually glad they are charging the parents I hope they have evidence to support the charges but regardless this might be a turning point akin to when we started charging parents for serving teenagers in the basement. |
