Happy New Year - Ring in the year with a wish and a warning
Happy New Year to all who have suffered and survived (Snyder's ownership or any other true hardship)
I hope each and every one of you masochistic ;) washington fans has an awesome year! :cheers I want to offer a chance for us to put in one wish for the new ownership and one word of warning. My wish - please change the name. No fanfare, no drawn out psuedo fan pleaser thing. Just pick a new one, and change it. Then build a team that makes us cheer for it. My warning - You get one chance make it count! The team has put itself in a perfect position for a new ownership to right the ship. The fanbase is dying to get behind the team (see the first home game this year). Be thorough, be decisive, and bring back a franchise we can be proud of. |
Re: Happy New Year - Ring in the year with a wish and a warning
Wish: We nail the GM hire
Warning: Don't piss into the wind/Don't force a QB pick if you don't love the QB |
Re: Happy New Year - Ring in the year with a wish and a warning
In 1-week's time, Rivera will no longer be the GM or HC. 2024 is going to be the year of the Redwolf(ves).

Re: Happy New Year - Ring in the year with a wish and a warning
Yeah, changing the name will not happen anytime soon. But at least, we will clean out the house this year.
Happy new year! |
Re: Happy New Year - Ring in the year with a wish and a warning
Wish: Harris operates with a go-forward vision informed by his experiences with the Sixers and Devils and enables his new GM to execute freely.
Warning: while the fan base may carry the scars of 25 years of Snyder ownership and most recently 4 years of poor roster-building decisions by Rivera, operate with a short memory. The sins of your predecessors have nothing to do with you and your vision. If you want to trade up for a star QB or take a DE over another QB, don’t avoid doing so because of how similar moves worked out in this town previously. If your analytics-focused vision supports it, do it. Some fans are going to bitch no matter what you do. Ignore it, we’re not rational after all these years and we desperately need someone who is. |
Re: Happy New Year - Ring in the year with a wish and a warning
Hear hear!
Wish: That we hit the mark with the 2nd pick, whoever we take and start the new regime off with a true talent leading the team. Preferably Harrison or Maye for me, though I'd be happy with trading back a little to get a good haul. Perfect scenario, Pats trade up a spot for Williams, if Chicago stay put and draft Harrison, and we then nab Maye plus extra picks. Warning: Division is initial priority. Build a team to aim for a 6-0 division result and the rest will follow. |

Among being a terrible god awful football team, we have no identity at all. A name change is just going to be too difficult. Change it when we go into a new stadium. I don't want to see those all blacks ever again. Get back to being us. |
Re: Happy New Year - Ring in the year with a wish and a warning
Wish: Hope the new ownership hires some good talent evaluators and GM/coach and stay out of their way.
Warning: If we don't learn from our past mistakes, we'll be fucked for decades to come. |
Happy New Year - Ring in the year with a wish and a warning
Wish - win more than we lose
Warning - hire people that know football and stay out of their way |
Re: Happy New Year - Ring in the year with a wish and a warning
My wish is complete cohesion between President/GM/Coach with a franchise building strategy
My warning…don’t fuck up the first high round pick which could be QB. If there is any doubt, you pass. Cohesion with a plan. |

Re: Happy New Year - Ring in the year with a wish and a warning
Wish. We get the QB !!
Warning. The QB pick should be unanimous.. Don't want to hear that there were some in the war room that didn't like the pick .. Everyone has to be onboard .. |
Re: Happy New Year - Ring in the year with a wish and a warning
Wish - Get the QB. Bring back the old uniforms. Get Good GM & HC
Down the road wish - Change the name. Warning - Don't reach on the draft picks. Do not get RW or any other retread QB |

I will be surprised if we don't go QB, but I would be happy with Harrison, Fashanu, or Alt if we don't go QB. Picking at 2 or 3, there are so many options. We have to be a destination spot for GM/HC candidates this year. Money, picks, good ownership, really nothing more to ask for. |

it think its more damaging to not consistently be trying to find your QB1
I think the set back part is if you sell the farm to trade up to No.1 , that would not seem to be such an issue now being at #2, but with such glaring weakness in the roster with many holes to fill if you send lots of draft picks in trade you can be in a deep hole if the QB doesn't work out. Look at Carolina. But you are right, in the modern NFL you have to keep looking for a rookie QB1 |

Re: Happy New Year - Ring in the year with a wish and a warning
SF blew it on Trey Lance, and they have still been able to field a high quality team. They got lucky with Purdy, and have competent individuals making personnel decisions though. That makes a difference.
That is also a perfect example though, of the "experts" not having it right. Trey Lance was highly touted, while Brock Purdy was an afterthought. |
not sure how it sets us back 3-5 years; it would set you back in that you are still in the QB hunt game
it think its more damaging to not consistently be trying to find your QB1
Depends how the qb plays - if he plays mediocre but flashes every now and then our coaching staff would be more inclined to give him more time to learn and grow. If he still sucks after year 2 or 3 then you press reset but depending on record Harris might not be inclined to let the staff pick a new qb knowing they already fucked it up once. Example - if we go 2-14 in the 3rd year with a new coaching staff it's highly unlikely they'd get a 4th year to fix it. The system is predicated on showing improvement every year. If we aren't in playoff contention by year 3 safe to say the staff and half the roster are goners. Boom - your franchise had a boatload of draft picks, a fresh staff/FO, and a top 3 pick to select a qb and they failed. Who you pick matters way more than where you pick. Who was the last top 2 qb to become a surefire HOFer? |

it think its more damaging to not consistently be trying to find your QB1
Exactly! Seems like some Warpathers have a fear of failure and use draft status as a crutch for poor play. If I have to endure a season like this then I want a chance to get the golden ticket. Drafting a guy like CJ Stroud is the fastest way to turn around a franchise. The guy took the sorry ass Texans from 3 wins to 9 this season with a game to go. It's not all on CJ but he is the most critical piece to their success. If we get the pick wrong, we will have another great draft pick to get it right. Shouldn't take 3-5 seasons to know if we have a star or not. |

Purdy walked into a pretty purdy situation, a team stocked with All-Pro's and a coaching staff who actually can turn Mr. Irrelevant into a Pro Bowl qb (suck an egg Josh McDaniels). I'd go so far to argue if you fuck up the GM/coach it doesn't matter who you pick at qb. Purdy succeeded because Kyle S. knows how to develop players. |

Then with this line of thinking; sticking with Sam would set us back 3-5 years |

I am going to say it is between the ears issue. Matt Stover once said there were 100 kickers better than he was but they didn’t have the mental fortitude for the NFL. imagine QB is the same. |

Same reason Jay Gruden did it with Kirk when he couldn't do it with RG3? Idk Chief I'm not the qb whisperer. My entire point is if Harris and co. fucks up the GM/coaching staff and they fuck up the qb it might set this franchise back years to come. GM and coach is just as important as the roster. I'm not saying pick one guy and leave it alone - I agree you have to keep swinging until you hit one. The book isn't closed on Howell either, he might just need a few years of development. |

Re: Happy New Year - Ring in the year with a wish and a warning
I want trying to pick on Mooby
My pint was weather you muss on a pick or don’t pick at all until you find your QB1 franchise guy you are set back So in my opinion just keep buying those scratchers and pray |

We agree on this. Maybe I'm just jaded from years of mediocrity. Good teams draft good players no matter where they pick. Having a high pick makes it easier but is absolutely no guarantee of success. |

It won't set you back that far unless you trade a bunch of picks for said QB and it he fails. You should give most QBs 3 years to progress. If he's not progressing during those 3 years, then you move on to the next while still having a solid team and not having to pay the QB some crazy cap money. You can still compete while your QB is learning. Hell, Purdy has that team as the #1 NFC seed and they call him a game manager. They would be in even better shape had they not traded good picks for a bust. That's why you don't do it. |
Re: Happy New Year - Ring in the year with a wish and a warning
That's my biggest fear, that the new guys want to come in and make a show of it by trading up. This could be the RG3 scenario all over again.

not sure how many of you watch NBA but Harris and company started what was called the process in PHL IT started with a trade of their best player at the time (Holiday); our biggest trade asset here is our draft picks I wouldn't be shocked if he did something similar here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philadelphia_76ers#The_Process Harris began contemplating investing in sports after meeting senior Blackstone executive David Blitzer in 2008 at The Punchbowl, a public house in London.[37][38] Those talks led to the pair forming an investment group that bought the Philadelphia 76ers of the National Basketball Association (NBA) from Comcast Spectacor for $280 million in 2011.[39] Other initial members of the group included Art Wrubel, Jason Levien, Adam Aron, Martin Geller, David Heller, James Lassiter, Marc Leder, Michael Rubin, Will Smith, Jada Pinkett Smith, and Erick Thohir.[40][41] Harris presided over an era in 76ers history known as "The Process", in which the team tanked for better NBA draft lottery odds.[42][43] Agreeing to a plan formed by general manager Sam Hinkie, the 76ers went 19–63 during the 2013–14 season, 18–64 in 2014–15, and 10–72 in 2015–16, the latter being the third-worst record in NBA history.[34] The Process was unpopular with NBA executives and team owners, who lobbied league commissioner Adam Silver to step in due to the 76ers' poor performance affecting league revenue sharing.[44][45] Harris would eventually agree to a suggestion by Silver to hire Jerry Colangelo, former owner of the Phoenix Suns, as team chairman in December 2015, which led to Hinkie stepping down in April 2016.[44][46] The Process led to the 76ers drafting future NBA MVP Joel Embiid, with the team having made five straight postseason appearances starting with the 2017–18 season.[34] The 76ers were valuated at $4.13 billion by Sportico in 2023. |
