It's go time. We have an ownership group/GM that just gets it. It's probably only the 2nd time that warrants real excitement, we have had in the last 30 years. RG3 in 2012 and now. But this is actually sustainable because shitfuck is gone.

Super pumped about getting Peters. This is the type of guy we need to be relevant again. Love his experience, winning, and the fact that he scouted talent and acted as a gm. Perfect hire to start this important offseason.

Good listen - John Keim mixes it up with the ESPN 49ers reporter talking about what makes a successful GM-HC relationship. Really interesting tidbit on Bobby Slowik that could work in his favor - Slowik's success as an offensive coordinator can be traced back to spending time in defensive meetings really learning how the defense works. Big reason why Kyle Shanahan is such a good offensive playcaller too - he used to sneak into defensive meetings in TB with Monte Kiffin/co. trying to soak up as much as possible.

This is going to be a huge test. Will be interesting to see where Slowik lands after the year. He is definitely a wanted man for head coach now.

Commanders had the best season in the NFCE. Adam Peters and the No. 2 pick for the win. And a new HC TBA.

Interesting that Peters mentioned that there were "a ton of great people in the building that just need leadership" and felt like the organization was not a tear down..

Watching the Adam Peters presser and comparing it to the Ron Rivera presser there's some noticeable differences.

The main one that jumps out at me is how uncomfortable Dan Snyder looks. Also noticed Adam calls Josh by his first name right off the bat - that was a Snyder peev IIRC.

I know we go through this every time we hire a HC but this time feels different. Obviously putting the entire organization in the hands of one man was a bad move. But the key difference this time - Adam Peters had his choice of where he wanted to go and he chose here. If Snyder was in charge he would've declined an interview most likely.

Re: The Adam Peters Thread

On the interviews, I mean they aren't going to say much, and they didn't. Everything said could have been- and has been said here in the past. Josh Harris is the anti-Snyder in being overly relaxed and Peters read from a script (granted it kept him from flubbing any lines). If you take out the words, align (any form), and process then that whole press conference takes 5 minutes or less. That said, Peters got it right when he said that you'll see the difference on the field, unfortunately for us that is 8 months away...

lol . . . I liked Briam Mitchell as a player, but he is an ass on the radio. I much prefer to listen to Gruden's takes (which are usually far more accurate) than B-Mitch's.

It’s ironic Gruden would use the word ‘prepared’ ever again after some of the biggest prime time no shows in franchise history.

I loved Brian Mitchell as a player, but he's really not good for TV or radio. He just huffs and puffs and spout off from his time as a player and/or with the Redskins. He'll also browbeat anyone who doesn't agree with him. He doesn't really add anything.

It's been old hat for several years. I'd rather listen to Doc Walker "spout off." At least he does occasionally add commentary and is funny at times. Mitchell adds zero.

Yeah I like Doc because of the humor, but his pov sometimes is unique. I this he brings more than someone like B Mitch.

Wish he would have dedicated a bit more to the oline, however agree with all other moves. Dude seems pretty down to earth also and communicates well.

At first I didn't think he got as much value as the Panters and Giants did for their picks but I was mistaken.

Pick 39 trade favored Panters by 69pts.

RAMS RECEIVE:
Round 2, 2024: No. 39 (from New York Giants) -- valued at 510pts

PANTHERS RECEIVE: Trade favored Panthers by 69pts.
Round 2, 2024: No. 52; Pick traded to Colts -- V= 380
Round 5, 2024: No. 155; Pick traded to Eagles --V= 29
Round 2, 2025 V= 170

Pick 40 trade favored Redskins by 74pts

EAGLES RECEIVE:
Round 2, 2024: No. 40 (from Chicago) -- V= 500
Round 3, 2024: No. 78; Pick traded to the Texans -- V = 200
Round 5, 2024: No. 152 (from Seattle) -- WR Ainias Smith V= 23

Redskins RECEIVE: Trade favored Redskins by 74pts
Round 2, 2024: No. 50 (From New Orleans) --V = 400
Round 2, 2024: No. 53 -- V = 370
Round 5, 2024: No. 161 -- V= 27

Pick 41 trade was equal value

SAINTS RECEIVE:

Round 2, 2024: No. 41 (from New York Jets) -- V=490

PACKERS RECEIVE:
Round 2, 2024: No. 45 (from Denver) -- V= 450
Round 5, 2024: No. 168; Pick traded to Bills -- v = 25
Round 6, 2024: No. 190; Pick traded to Eagles -- v = 15

I don't know if anyone's done any real science on the value chart. Someone made one up and everyone's just kind of been going by it ever since (the good enough or "seems right" principal).

It wouldn't be easy to regression test either (only track rookie contract? games played? games started? bonuses for superbowl/pro bowls? value for general right of refusal on 2nd contract? how do you account for injuries or performance metrics (or do you bother?))

Just saying, the chart isn't perfect or set in stone.

AnonEmouse 06-17-2024 01:20 PM

Re: The Adam Peters Thread

I'd doubt real science is truly possible given the crapshoot nature of the draft. It's a statistical model based on known and perceived value and performance. But like the QBR calculation, its the same model applied to all, so the relative value of each position is constant regardless of which team its applied to. By the model we did well out of the deal, but the true litmus test will be the contribution by those picks for the respective teams over the next 3 years. For now all we can say is it looks good on paper.

What impressed me watching the video was Peters no nonsense approach. He just kept saying no until he got the deal he was happy with. And I also like the command and confidence he displayed. He knew he'd got a good deal on paper and had arguably out negotiated another very good GM. It bodes well.

Teams don't even use the same chart, it's a general guide more than anything
