I imagine it will linger forever, but Harris was asked a direct question and gave a direct answer. The name is here to stay.

Think of Commanders as the given name, Skins the nickname. Sort of like a Winthrop being called Buddy.

While I fully understand the desire of the Old Guard in wanting it restored. I ask you to look at it through his eyes, he has started something here and he wants to move forward and not dwell on the past that was tarnish by those who should not be named.

With Redskins off the table there is simply no magic cure all out there for the name. Ask 10 people and you'll get 10 different answers. They could spend millions on another new name and maybe get a modest bump in public support. Is the juice worth the squeeze?

I think ownership is looking at it like if winning and a superstar like Jayden can't bring the most stubborn of fans back, fuck em, they're not worth the time anyway.

Will always miss the name. Just hope they keep honoring tradition in old name and logo in different ways. Really wish the uniforms/true colors would make a comeback, though.

It's lame as fuck. Thank goodness Cleveland Indians changed their name to the Guardians, so we will never have the worst name. No one cares about the 2nd worst.

There are many worst parts, but the most worst, is there is no way to shorten it to something that isn't embarrassing. Coms, Commies, Ders, there is simply no way to shorten the name to use in a conversation. And Washington is already a long name. Washington Commanders takes what feels like 30 minutes to use in a live conversation. It's a horrendous name.

I know what Harris said , But I don't understand why the franchise should be stuck with a name given to it by a owner that was hated by all of the fans. It just doesn't make sense to me. Guess I will deal with it but it just doesn't make sense. But if they do it better job of branding it, and possibly allowing the nickname of the Skins in some materials then maybe they can make it work.

He didn't. What he has actually done is to make an entire generation associate the name "Redskins" with his failed tenure as an owner.

Everyone outside of the team's fan base associates the name Commanders with Josh Harris' turn around and the success they've had this year. And the new fans the team has gained this year, and hopefully in years to come, will only associate the name Commanders with Josh Harris.

We're never going back to Redskins, that isn't my point. But Commanders is an atrocious name. Its a Snyder name. If Harris was allowed to run the original name change, no way we're the Commanders.

It does take 30 minutes to use in a conversation which is hysterical, but that is like 75 % because it is hesitancy on our parts, and 25 % because it actually does. You have to say it with authority like “how bout those Commanders!”

This is how I see it. I'm kind of getting used to Commanders. Winning can do that. I now associate the name with Jayden Daniels, not Daniel Snyder. If they change the name again it will sound off and take time to adjust to, if I even like the new name at all.

I think moving forward there will always ben a segment of the fanbase that will always say Redskins. Opposing fans may use it as some sort of dig. But just like a team called the Mighty Ducks was gradually accepted so will this name. The process has already begun.

Yeah, but he kinda did for a new generation of potential fans. My boys grew up in the Snyder era and associate Redskins with his miserable tenure. They’re getting hyped cause of Jayden and new ownership, but they don’t have a deep connection with the glory years of the Redskins.

And there are tons of people who came to the DMV for work in the past 25 years who could have become fans but went with the Ravens or with a random team because, let’s face it, we were a laughingstock.

I still have never used "commanders" it is stupid. They asked the fans what we wanted, we gave em multiple options, then they shock us all with commanders, probably because it didnt come up on a google search. I have since bought Jayden daniels stuff, shirts and hats with w, but not with commanders, I see it as a temporary placeholder. I sure as hell hope they consider changing it and getting rid if that ridiculous cliwn mascot with a bucket on his head. I was hoping for warriors, with reference to our armed forces every game, we are washington after all. Wouldnt mind burgundy and gold with either a red white and blue or even camo helmet to honor our warriors. It isnt honoring native american warriors as redskins was, but it is close and since we are washington, the US military makes sense. I am just not a commanders fan. If not warriors, red something, red hawks, red wolves is cool with me. Time has passed and red-something is not equal to redskins/racist argument.

I have said Washington for a while, but honestly Commanders isn’t as terrible as I thought it was. Like SD said it is hard to shorten but its better than Cardinals, Browns , or Bills, or Packers. I understand the ownership group wanting to stay with Commanders. Changing it is a losing proposition for them and then they own any fan hate for the new not Redskins name. Leaving it as is most of the hate goes toward snyder for changing the name and the crappy selection, and it allows the ownership group to position themselves just like Harris did yesterday.

Agree. I'm good with moving on from the Redskins name but Commanders is not it. I know this doesn't affect their revenue one bit but I will never spend my money on any merchandise with the word Commanders. Washington Football Team was a lot better than this crap

I'm one of the few that is cool with Commanders. I like the sound of it actually and love all the unis that accompany it. I also loved the former name. As long as it's not Washington Football Team, I'm good. That, I couldn't stand. On to the FA and the draft next.

Commanders is the same as generals it means we are the ones in charge. It is a nod to the military and has much more to do with DC than puppies or frogs

I was completely embarrassed to say Commanders. It was literally uncomfortable talking about them because I didn’t know whether to say Redskins, Skins, WFT, Washington, or what but I couldn’t bring myself to say Commanders. I never, ever would have voted for Commanders. At first I had to force myself to like it, but honestly I now do not hate it. I actually think it would be an awesome Hockey name, so it can’t be that bad for football. It will just take some getting used to. Can you imagine if Packers was a new name? Seriously.

the all time worst name and i can't ever get use to it is Wizards, i am actually all boston fans expect commanders but Wizards is so bad

I like the Raise Hail Hail Yeah slogans, I think that blends the old with the past

i also like to think of the redskins as the gibb years and commanders will be the jd5/ harris years

i actually really like the W and i do like the uniforms but i am not a uniform snob
