Re: 2026 Commanders Free Agency
I'm sure even to this point, Commanders still do not have a good idea of who they will draft but the players we have signed so far makes it seem like we are unlikely to draft a pass rusher with our #7 pick. Downs would be a perfect pick here.

Have to think it will be Downs or Love. Downs would be terrific. We do need help on offense too (C, WR, and TE) and we still haven’t resigned Paul, but the D needed more help and already looks massively different. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Re: 2026 Commanders Free Agency
Love if he is there ..Takes the pressure off JD to be a runner and gives us a real top level Run game .. If JD gets hurt again then MM with Love is still a good O .. but I think Love will be long gone at #7 .. he is best player in draft !

Re: 2026 Commanders Free Agency
The key is, it frees us up to take BPA, rather than feel pressured to take Edge. Could still do it (imagine Bain for instance in a 3 man rotation!). But it means that we're more free to take the best available. Love wouldn't be a bad pick now, but neither would Reese (not likely to be available but we can hope), Downs, Styles or Tate. I'd still rather we go D, and Reese or Downs would be a potential massive upgrade. But unless we screw the pooch (and trading back now makes less sense), whoever we pick will likely be a big contributor.
See how the rest of the week pans out, but I like what AP has done so far. No big name over 30's and upgraded DL and LB. RB, WR and S still concerns though, but it's only Wednesday. |

I think Tate (WR) has become an option. Not advocating for that, but given the attempts in FA to get a WR, and failing, I think that leads to that possibility. |
Re: 2026 Commanders Free Agency
Yeah, no doubt, signing some defense players will allow us to go with BPA in the draft even if it's on the offense side.

Re: 2026 Commanders Free Agency
I’d consider Aiyuk on a one year deal

Would as well. |

Not a big fan of his, but I would be fine with a 1 year deal. |
Re: 2026 Commanders Free Agency
Looks like we just signed Okownwo -- new TE. I thought that might happen after we missed out on Likely. Ertz is definitely gone.

That's good. I would say the best of the remaining TE's on the market |
Re: 2026 Commanders Free Agency
With Nick Cross signed as well its starting to look more like it could be Love or Tate (see what I did there) at #7

Second this. Incentive heavy, no more than 6M. |
Re: 2026 Commanders Free Agency
We also signed Nick Cross from Colts, I have no idea who he is... Apparently he is a good box safety but is lacking in passing coverage.

Re: 2026 Commanders Free Agency
Any good rbs left?

AP has something going in the free agent kitchen, I’m hearing lots of pots and pans rattling around, starting to feel some heat |

Cross is a fairly good player, but I am having trouble getting too excited about this addition. He's really a box safety (and a very good one by all accounts) and limited in coverage. What we really need is a safety that can cover. But he's durable and a local kid (played at Maryland, I think), so that's a plus. BTW, Chris Rodriguez just signed with the Jags. So we really are going to need RB help. I have to imagine we're targeting Love at this point. Eagles are getting picked over and haven't really signed anyone. I have a feeling that they and the Cowboys will be going after Crosby. Hope that doesn't happen -- he's going to want to murder people after the last 24 hours. |

I'd have hoped we'd keep him, McNichols and still add an upgrade to go along with Bill. Only one RB under contract at the moment which isn't ideal for our new run heavy offense |

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk[/quote] Very much so. I never understood why he didn't get more carries as he always seemed to produce whenever he came in. |
Re: 2026 Commanders Free Agency
I hope we re-sign Paul soon. I have a feeling he's getting some FA attention.

Re: 2026 Commanders Free Agency
The amount of whiny and bitchy fans complaining about Adam Peters yesterday was simply mind boggling. There is a reason why fans are fans, and he's a fucking GM in the NFL. Let this man fucking cook.

Lmao, gotta tune it out and demonstrate patience for sure. |
Re: 2026 Commanders Free Agency
Another DT signed, Omenihu from the Chiefs. 1yr $4M. Depth piece.

Right now I am feeling pretty good, Solid edge and physical safety. I feel like this will help force early throws. Perhaps we see Mikey get back to some ints. |
Re: 2026 Commanders Free Agency
This blurb on espn about Oweh has me feeling optimistic:
Oweh failed to record a sack while he was with Baltimore last season, then notched 7.5 after being traded to the Chargers. That split is mostly noise because his underlying numbers were good all year. He ranked in the 80th percentile in pass rush win rate among edge rushers and in the 82nd percentile in pressure rate. Plus, he recorded 10 sacks with the Ravens the year before. He's good -- he just took time to develop. |

Re: 2026 Commanders Free Agency
Sad to see C Rod go. Very productive back when he was given a chance to carry the load.

People bugging out an hour into free agency was definitely hilarious and over the top ridiculous |

I'm wondering if McNichols is maybe back instead. I'd say $10M (6 guaranteed) over 2 years for a 2nd/3rd string back is probably more than AP was willing to pay, at least this early in FA. We knew we would lose a number of FA's including a few we'd rather keep. |
Re: 2026 Commanders Free Agency
No chance in hell I'm taking Love at 7. Crazy high for a running back.
I'd hope to trade back 5 or 6 spots and nab one of the top corners while recouping a 2nd. |

He's far and away the best player and most dynamic offensive talent coming out in a while, though. Who knows. If he's there at 7, im probably taking him. |
Re: 2026 Commanders Free Agency
I don’t have a problem taking an RB high at #7. The question is whether Love’s a generational RB. (like a Bijan, AP, Saquan)
|
Re: 2026 Commanders Free Agency
I don't have a problem with drafting a RB in top 10, although I don't think it's ideal for our situation as we have needs that are more important than the RB position. We need to consider the impact of the position. For example, Bijan Robinson and Barkley - they were drafted in top 10 and yet they couldn't help their teams win more games.
|
Re: 2026 Commanders Free Agency
I think the question will be is he the best player available at that point. If the market consensus is Love is the best guy left when we pick, I'm good with it. But the noise is he'll be gone before 5, let alone 7. If Downs is there, I'd be hard pressed not to take him unless Reese was still available (again doubtful).

They didnt have JD5 - those crappy giants and current average falcons teams. If our line is junk, scheme is junk, WR doesnt improve --- then maybe i would agree but i dont think any of the above will be true by the time the season starts. |
Re: 2026 Commanders Free Agency
Running backs are a disposable position w/ high risk injury. It's just not a position I would ever invest a 1st round pick in.
McNichols and Bill are fine. Draft someone in the mid rounds and bring in a FA or two. |
