OLine Depth watch
We just finished our final warm up (ravens joint practice) for the regular season which was touted as the measuring stick. Unfortunately, from all accounts our interior oline was really bad.
We did not have Allegretri or Cosmi in. So rather than freaking out, we should hope we get lucky with a trade or cuts for an experienced center and guard. Good news is we have a shot post cuts. Yes, we are 7th on the waiver wire, but according to this article about heaviest need, we may be first in line for oline cuts in terms of top needs for players under 4 years of service. Here is a summary of waiver wire order and top waiver wire need: https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/one-position-every-team-should-attack-via-trades-or-waiver-claims-at-roster-deadline/ 1. Raiders. LB 2. Jets LB ,maybe iol depth 3. Cardinals secondary 4. Titans CB 5. Giants Dline (fixed w trade), maybe iol depth 6. Browns Edge and also power center/rg 7. Skins Oline nimble center and guard 8. Saints Oline This order stays in place until week 4. We must make a corresponding move if we pick someone up. Also, experiences players who are cut, are free agents and would likely love our situation as there is a clear path to starting center or left guard. It goes without saying the ideal player is a swing interior center who can also play LG. I thought we had one in Brunskill, but he has disappeared after playing guard against the dolphins. With 1100 cuts coming, there will be 32 4th string centers cut and maybe 16 3rd string centers including our own. Odd are one of these will be better than our current 2nd string option of Gulbin/Good-Jones. They just need to learn our playbook in 2 wks. I wouldnt be suprised if we target a swing vet who has played 5 games at center, plus a waiver kid who is primarily a left guard with wheels |
Re: OLine Depth watch
Yeah I don't really understand the logic behind the decision making regarding center.. Good-Jones played only like 5-6 snaps since 2020 so I'm not sure exactly what the FO saw in him.

Right! Well he has one more opportunity tonightbto show he can handle 2nd-4th stringers. He needs to dominate to stay on the roster AND make great combo protection calls He is clearly a practice squad level guy, but so is Gulbin. Hell, tonight I may try one of our swing tackle vets at center just in case |

Re: OLine Depth watch
You could say that again.
|
Re: OLine Depth watch
Pre cut trades are beginning with 7th rounders for backups for the giants with a Dline and NE for a RB. This may be our path today to get first crack at a backup center.
|
Re: OLine Depth watch
First center cut: Jake Rizy undrafted from pats, 9.88 RAS developmental center, far more athletic than Gulbin, just sayin.
Nick Dawkins also cut from the Ravens and Jim Bonifas from Miami, both undrafted but agile Although Dawkins may be better than Gulbin, if we make a waiver claim, we'd have to elevate him to the roster, and that is very unlikely. The only hope is that he clears waivers, even the ravens who are likely to put him on the practice squad. Note: you cannot outbid for pracice squad as their is a cap for undrafted folks. So any young centers are likely out. Unless you want them on the 53, we will likely not put in a claim. So developmental guys are not the target. This seriously limits our options |
Re: OLine Depth watch
OT's starting to move in trades to cheifs and dallas. Its time to strike, fingers crossed
Best guess Jake Andrews or Jarrett Patterson from the Texans would be viable |
Re: OLine Depth watch
Centers are moving, expect a 6th round and dyami at highest cost (my guess)
I would have been happy with the below morning news: The Indianapolis Colts acquired center Sedrick Van Pran-Granger and a 2027 seventh-round draft pick from the Buffalo Bills in exchange for a 2027 sixth-round draft pick. |
Re: OLine Depth watch
AP better be working. O-line is critical to any success. AP should know that; after all he traded picks for Tunsil.
|
Re: OLine Depth watch
Jets just got center jordan merideth in trade from raiders, that helps us in waiver wire cimpetition for centers and puts a lid in competion for centers in last minute trade costs.
|
Re: OLine Depth watch
Bad news, 49ers just got patterson for a 7th from the texans. This one I dont understand. Our 7th is much more valuable and he plays guard and center

Re: OLine Depth watch
Doesn’t look like we’ve done anything on this front. Yet. I was hoping they;d swing a trade — maybe someone like Jefferson or Dyami Brown — for a C/G. Ahh well. Now time to go over the scrap heap.
Surprised they cut Kaho over Medrano. Also surprised they cut Moreau and Hamilton. Especially with Amos going to IR, this would seem to leave us thin at CB. McNichols to IR as well. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

Regarding your mentiones cuts, seems based on who is more likely to clear waivers. Im sure they want those guys on the practice squad. Regarding center? We now lost leverage as the texans kept Jake Andrews as they traded their other center to the 49ers. Heck 3 trades for centers today, maybe 4. We did nothing. Disappointed, and kinda suprised |
Re: OLine Depth watch
Based on the current roster with 3 cb and 7 receivers, that needs fo flip, and we still have room to shop a wr for a center....im sayin theres a chance. Im looking at you Dyami

Re: OLine Depth watch
The O line is concerning and I really hope AP addresses it. Here’s where we are:
LT - our All Pro stud is out and replaced by a guy who was decent his rookie season but lost his starting gig when shifted to G (and then lost that job). We are hoping he takes a step forward from his rookie year but no guarantees. LG - Paul back as a starter. Did ok but the plan was to replace him with Coleman until Tunsil was hurt. C - let go a good player in Biadiaz. His replacement has been injured and has barely practiced. The backup is a 6th round rookie who has looked like it so far. RG - Stud. Hopefully the injuries are well behind him. RT - guy who struggled his rookie season but improved. Hoping for continued improvement. This just feels like what we did last year with the D line. Too much hoping for the best and not enough proven competence for my taste. On a happier note, I just got tickets to see the Colts game in London. Haven’t been to a game in ages and this should be cool. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Re: OLine Depth watch
They are satisfied for now, they might add a player or two before Eagles opener but I think they go into the opener with the current roster.
After the Eagles games, things might change. Though by then, who could you get. |
Re: OLine Depth watch
Taylor Decker still unsigned although he’s a T and not C or G. But you’re right that by not acting already, the options are thin.

Re: OLine Depth watch
Keim spoke about the Oline issues in his podcast a few days ago, turns out that the center situation is more complicated than we imagined.
Biadasz actually didn't play well with us last year. Keim specifically stated that people from both the team and around NFL said the same thing - Biadasz wasn't good at all last year. Allegretti is expected to be better, if not the same level as Biadasz. Regarding the center depth - multiple teams have the same issue and are looking for the same thing. This explains why the center options are very limited at this time. While there were a few available via free agency and trade - majority of those players do not fit Blough's offense. As for Glasgow, he can be a good fit for us but the issues are (1) will Glasgow accept the vet minimum? (2) will Glasgow accept being a backup once Allegretti is healthy to play? I think the latter is a challenge for us to navigate - no centers will want to play for us when they know that they will be relegated to the backup duty once Allegretti is healthy to play. Put yourself in Glasgow's position - you are contemplating retirement. Will you be willing to accept the vet minimum, just to play or would you prefer to retire? In other words, it takes both parties to dance together. We could offer (if not already) Glasgow a job but it won't work if the offer doesn't work for him. |

Clearly the team thought Biadasz wasn't working out, and I am certainly not in a position to disagree with that judgment. But the plan for what to do next obviously went off the rails. They apparently had sights on Linderbaum, and that obviously didn't happen. It isn't clear what plan B (or C or D) was. It's hard to imagine it is what we are doing now. |

They had no alternative plan. They couldn’t get the guy they wanted in free agency; so they figured we’ll ho with what we have. |

Re: OLine Depth watch
True, but out of the shotgun with JD5 running a lot. That’s not the plan this year.
Allegretti was the playing G, not C, which was where he had experience. We’ve arguably upgraded RT going from Wylie to Conley. Cornelius Lucas was actually our highest rated (PFF) OL that year other than Biadasz, who was even higher. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I will say this, if our guys were all healthy, I'd be very curious to see the ceiling on this team. I think the D will be a lot better -- both in terms of personnel and coaching -- and while there was only 1 direction to go, I can see a pretty big leap there. I love that Daronte Jones has these guys in attack mode. On offense, I think that Rachaad White is a talented and underrated back (and good guy to work with Bill), and we now have receiving threats (plural) that teams will need to respect. But the O line thing is worrisome -- Gibbs understood that a crushing O line can make up for a lot (look at what the Eagles have done for the last few years with Hurts). Losing Tunsil really stings. Hoping the young guys show out this season. |
Re: OLine Depth watch
A vet brought in now gets their salary guaranteed, vs if the team waits until after week 1.
If we bring anyone in, it will be after week 1. |

I have no idea what they are doing at center, Allegretti sucked at guard, he was benched early last season as the starter at RG and that is supposed to be his natural position and they have no NFL player on the roster who can be a backup. I never understood the plan and I still don't. Tunsil's injury hurt a lot and had a domino effect if Coleman was slated to start at LG. But one injury should never derail an entire offensive line. |
Re: OLine Depth watch
The team just released DJ Humphries. Rather odd to do this on the eve of the Eagles game, and I have to wonder whether they're about to sign someone else. I think Decker is still available. But Humphries was going to backup Coleman, and without him, it isn't clear what the plan is.
|
Re: OLine Depth watch
It's odd, I guess Wylie is the back up or maybe Conerly will move to LT and Wylie to fill in the RT if Coleman gets hurt.

Pocic was already signed by the Ravens. Not Decker though. He must be asking for a mint to be unsigned at this point. |
Re: OLine Depth watch
Lucas Patrick is a far more experienced center than Allegretri with 2000 snaps vs 300 for Allegretri. Plus Patrick's center numbers are in the low 60s vs. The pathetic 40s for Nick. He is currently the 32nd ranked center. I sure hope they put Patrick in to give him a shot. Vs Seattle will be hard but to have that kind of experience doing it better is what we need.
Hopefully he saves APs ass like Rasul Douglas and Diggs |

I don’t know enough about the Decker situation but if Jayden does come back this season it might be worth giving him a dial |
