Week one post game thread
On the road, against Philly, with two new coordinators and a few key injuries and so a 24-22 loss that came down to the wire should leave me feeling good about the season. With the schedule and the poor coaching I don’t feel so good though.
Good - Defense, and Sonny Styles. Bad - number 0, Diggs brain, Quinn. Ugly - that shovel pass to Bates. |
Re: Week one post game thread
Moving this to this thread:
I didn’t see the game but it was obviously close and we had a chance to beat a division rival that everyone has picked to go deep in the playoffs in their place with a new offense and new defense. The season is hardly over. Watching the highlights it seems clear that the breakdowns on the long pass plays from Hurts were the main difference. Not sustaining drives and putting more points on the board was a problem too, but the total yardage was even and we ran more plays and had more first downs - it just didn’t translate to points. Next week will be a test - do we roll over or take out some of today’s frustrations on another hated division rival? We won’t be playing the Seahawks with their starting QB or the Rams with Garrett, both good breaks. Or Dallas with its starting LG (who is really good). We need to seize the advantage where we can and put the bad taste of today’s game behind us. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Re: Week one post game thread
Well, before the game I though we would lose 31-17, so from that standpoint we did well.
The truth is we have been getting our asses kicked, to the pointbthatbwe were non competitive most of last year. Yes, we were much more competitive, ironically due to our greatest weakness, our atrocious defense. The truth is outside a few big plays, they were radically better. Our offense was bad and much worse. Jayden was bad, slow and inaccurate throwing one across his body and up for grabs. The team was not crisp, particularly on offense, with unforced penalties. I did notice an adjustment to more shotgun mid 3rd quarter that helped. Adding antonio was wise. Sanrisil was more limited in exposure in the 2nd half. Jones did very well in his first game, best coaching of the 3. Blough was very unimpressive and got his rookie ass blanketted by a 40 year pro in Fangio. Everyone will copy that model. I did notice our new players popped. Diggs was meh with drops. Brown still is not a good wr. The problems with our interior oline was ok until they put the game in their hands to tie it on the 2 pt inside screen to bates. Both Allegretti and Chris Paul. Not sure why you go to your greatest weakness vs their strength. Of course, they both blew their blocks and we lost. That is pure coaching failure. So I am mainly concerned with head coach, interior line and OC. The CB issue is real but Jones adjusted to minimize that weakness as any good coach would do. It seems he is not a dumbass |
Re: Week one post game thread
I think jd5 came alive at the end
But this was happening last year as well where he consistently keeps throwing low to receivers, it’s odd |
Re: Week one post game thread
Tired of always being the losers. Always do whatever it takes to not win. Had a chance to get the ball back down one...instead we let Hurts run for 22 yards on 3rd and 18.
Always shit like that. Always. Fucking sick of it. And that's just one of plenty of other instances to point towards. |

Re: Week one post game thread
The oline was not good. I lobbied hard to get Decker and Glasgow this summer after the Tunsil injury. Peters said no. Coleman got beat badly today. The oline is the main reason the offense sucked in the 1st half. Pass blocking was horrible. Sad deal. Rest of the offense is loaded. Barring a miracle, this will be the achilles heal of this team. An absolute travesty and injustice moves weren't made after the Tunsil injury and with the center position being neglected. Out on Peters currently for this.

Re: Week one post game thread
**JD wasn't very good today nor was he bad. He was rusty to say the least.
**OL was decent on the run element and bad on passing. I suspect a lot of play calling was hampered by them leaving extra players in instead of sending them out on passing routes. One play I noticed Philly rushed four and had the rest in a zone defense, while we had 7 guys on the line. This left only 2WRs and 1RB to go out on routes and nobody was getting open. **Defense was solid outside some key fuckups allowing big plays. **No turnovers. That's a big plus for us as it could have been much worse if we did have some. All in all, they played better than I thought they would (especially the defense). I think the weakness on the OL is going to hamper play calling going forward too. |

Agree on the run blocking but you cannot have a good passing offense without blocking. As good of a runner as he is, JD5 is still a passing qb. Oline didn't give him much time at all. He was constantly pressured a lot on the edge especially. |

I should have noted that the OL did well on run block and not so much on passing. I do think the OC adjusted the plays to leave more players in to block which is why nobody was getting open downfield. Philly just rushed 4 the entire time basically and let them have extra defenders in the passing game. |
Re: Week one post game thread
TE is about as pedestrian as it gets.
They aren’t a good group. 3rd down back looked slow. Rookies looked good. New D looked great. |
Re: Week one post game thread
Diggs penalty and Blows playcall on that 2 point conversion are keeping me awake. That was an absolutely terrible call.

Why harp on the Diggs penalty, it’s obvious we can’t convert a 2pt conversion |

Re: Week one post game thread
I disagree with the notion that he had time at least in the 1st half. He had time some time because he was forced to leave the pocket a lot. Philly was consistently getting to him especially on the edges. They had lots of pressures and would have more sacks if JD5 wasn't so mobile. It was an absolute rarity where he would drop back and had time to throw with a clean pocket.

Re: Week one post game thread
Well, this game was a mixed bag.. Some of you guys believed that Eagles would be up by 2 scores or more. We were only one 2 point conversation away from tying the game. Actually if you think about it, this is exactly the same playbook we followed in 2024 - defense keeping us in the game and then JD does his magic stuff and led comebacks. The only difference was Kliff’s offense worked very well and Blough’s offense did not in this game.
Good - Our defense is so much better, yesterday was the first time where I felt excited about our defense since Gregg Williams’ time. The defense was the only reason why we were alive in the game until the very last play. We will get Armstrong back this Sunday, and then we will get Wise and Amos back by 5th game. The defense will only get better. - Styles showed everyone why we drafted him. He even ran over Barkley and it’s rare to see anyone do that, especially as a rookie. - Williams made key catches, the TD catch was amazing. He is obviously our #3 WR at this point. - Tyler Owens is growing into a nice special teamer - JD did not try to be superhero, instead he took what the defense gave him. Even Tom Brady complimented JD for this. Bad - Blough got outcoached by Fanigo. Even Tom Brady said that there was nowhere for JD to throw to throughout the game. I suppose we should have expected this, it’s unreasonable to expect a first time offense coordinator to best a defense mastermind with 40 years of experience. Also, Blough got cute with the 2 point conversation - he should have put the ball in JD’s hands instead. - The Oline is bad.. I tried to be optimistic about the Oline but there’s no another way around it. Going into the halftime, the tv showed that JD was pressured at the 2nd highest rate of his career in the first half. - Diggs did alright but he needs to be better (he and JD are still building the chemistry) |

I think things will be much better when Tunsil comes back. On to the Cowpukes. |

Burn it down.
So much for our matchup nightmare TE as well. Fuck you quinn. Fuck you Peters. So sick of seeing 5 run for his life every fucking snap. |

Also notice that having two WR#1 doesn't do jack shit either (see Cowboys for another example) if your OL isn't solid. |
Re: Week one post game thread
What bothered me about Blough is I really had no idea what he was actually trying to do. What is the identity? I watched the Giants last night, they had one. I liked what I saw. Throw the ball to Nabers and that beast of a TE which we should have signed. Run the ball with that 300lb fullback and Scattaboo.
Because you have a new OC and JD didn't play all that much last year, they're playing pre season. They gotta toss it around and get in sync. That's on Quinn. That first half was a total joke. Get JD on the move a little bit more. Did they call one screen to off set the rush? Blew a game they could have won. 3rd and 18 Hurts run was an absolute back breaker. Mikey can't play man anymore. Just stop it. He can't do it. |

Our best wr yesterday was a 3rd round rookie. Go figure. |
Re: Week one post game thread
I wonder if they’ll try to sign Decker. Still unsigned.
Separately, Allegretti just whiffed on the conversion- if he hits his man, they score. It was bad execution. But why rely on our OL so much on a play like this? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
