Jun 28, 2005 12:05 pm US/Eastern Gambrills, MD. (AP) Anne Arundel County police are investigating the weekend shooting of a security guard at a pool party in Anne Arundel County hosted by Washington Redskins linebacker LaVar Arrington and San Francisco 49ers linebacker Julian Peterson. Arrington rented the spacious home near Gambills for the party, as first reported by WUSA-9. James Sidney, 35, of Hyattsville, who was working security at the party, was shot when he intervened in a scuffle early Sunday morning, police said. He was flown to Shock Trauma in Baltimore and listed in serious, but stable, condition later in the day. No one has been charged in the shooting or the fight, police said Tuesday. Investigators don't believe Arrington was anywhere near the fight and shooting, although he was present at the party, said police spokesman Lt. Joseph Jordan. Officers responded to noise complaints at the house twice Saturday evening -- just before 8 p.m. and again just before midnight, Jordan said. During the second visit, someone who identified himself as Arrington told an officer he was shutting the party down, Jordan said. But officers were still at the home, making sure people left, when the scuffle broke out and Sidney was shot. Jordan said some people at the party were handcuffed and questioned but later released. |

Wonderful. :)

Re: Another gun incident
You didn't think we were gonna make it to training camp without hitting the headlines again did you?!
LOL |
Re: Another gun incident
I'm glad that all this bs is happenning now, instead of during the regular season. Let the players act like dumbasses now, so that during the season it's all outta their system during the season.

Re: Another gun incident
HA! I like your signature. It's concise and random.

Re: Another gun incident
Are we the Redskins or the freeking Raiders?? Are D is looking pretty Gangsta at the moment! :vomit-smi
I guess Lavar wants to be like R.Lewis in more ways then just a pro bowl LB. :Flush: I mean come on! Get some classer friends guys. |
Re: Another gun incident
This is impossible. Are you trying to tell me that super rich, high-profile african-american athletes/entertainers have douche bags with guns trying to make a name for themselves hanging around? Never heard of this happening before. :banghead:
|
Re: Another gun incident
All of our problems seem to circle around two players, Lavar and Taylor. Too bad their both players with all-world potential. I'm going to assume Lavar had nothing to do with this, and it was an unfortunate incident. But come on! Oy...

Re: Another gun incident
i doubt lavar shot anyone, let alone had a gun. after the taylor incident, i would think everyone on the team is smarter than that. you never know though, but i doubt arrington is gonna get charged with anything. and cmon guys, it's a party. him and j. peterson are hanging out, they invite a couple friends over, who in turn invite a couple more friends over, etc. lavar might not have even known the guy who shot the security guard.
|
Re: Another gun incident
They have already determined that LaVar was only in the wrong place, wrong time and nothing more than that. The way I think it happened, was that it was just an unfortunate thing that happened with one of our guys there....
.....anyone know where a Mr. Sean Taylor was early Sunday Morning? |
Re: Another gun incident
Exactly. That's why often my parties get broken up by dumbasses inviting their ignorant friends.
|
Re: Another gun incident
Its all in who you hang out with. PERIOD! I have been to and had hundreds of parties and never seen a gun, maybe a couple of fights but never any weapons. When I was in my 20's alot of people had guns in their vehcles for hunting, but they never would have thought of using one to shoot a person.I know times have changed but these guys need to watch who they hang with. Its hard to say Lavar was in the wrong place when he had the party. The person shot was a security gaurd which tells me he did use some sense and the cops were still on the property when the shooting took place. Maybe our first day of training camp should be Choosing Friends 101 and Where Not To Hang.

Re: Another gun incident
Who the hell takes a gun to a party? F-ing idiots!
Yeah, I think I'll go out drinking with my gun. Smart. |

Sorry, I was commenting on some of the players and their so called friends. The whole gansta thing is getting out of hand. |
Re: Another gun incident
Few more details in this article, including a statement by Arrington.
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2096397 As far as I can tell, Arrington didn't do anything wrong here. Perhaps a better class of friends would be advantageous though. |

When are these guys gonna learn how important it is to choose your friends wisely? Ridiculous

Analogies
Guns:Parties Women:Michael Jackson As you can clearly see, the glove does not fit... |

Did he suddenly lose his ability to fight off blocks in the middle of the field? |
Re: Another gun incident
HA! Ba-zing.

Re: Another gun incident
Hmmm... Do I get a new avatar at 50? I'd like one of Michael Westbrook punching Stephen Davis. That would be sweet. Or Gus Ferrotte headbutting a wall. The caption would say "MEATHEAD".

Re: Another gun incident
Maybe you should make it Curtis Jackson? (I want to see who gets this)

Re: Another gun incident
Until further information is available, it looks as if Arrington did everything right here - - except he invited or allowed to be invited some antisocial misfits. He rented a place for a party and hired security people. When police were summoned, he said he was shutting it down not that the cops were hassling him. Hard to see how he did much wrong in that scenario. Obviously, the whole story is not out yet, but so far, Arrington looks good.
Guns and parties don't mix. Guns and alcohol and parties are a horrendous mixture. IF the wounded man were to die - and I certainly hope he doesn't - then the comparison to Ray Lewis is particularly apt. Arrington would have been the celebrity present at a celebration event where someone died even though neither Arrington nor Lewis did the killing. If anyone wants an avatar that is captioned "MEATHEAD", there are several photo possiblities that could provide the grist. Albert Connell would be a name to add to the list of folks whose likeness could work out here. |

But as I remember it, Lewis plead guilty to obstruction of justice (because the DA didn't have enough to get him for the murder itself) for helping to cover up the murder. I just don't see anything anywhere showing that Arrington hasn't cooperated with the police or that he was even suspected of being involved in the purposeful brutal murder of two people like Lewis? The thing is, Ray Lewis was guilty of at least some wrongdoing and was involved in the murder itself (whether he used the knife or just tried to cover it up). I don't think simply being at a party where something goes wrong means that Lavar's name should be thrown in the mud with Ray Lewis's. Just my opinion. |
Re: Another gun incident
PSUSkinsFan:
I agree that Arrington ahs done nothing yet that approaches obstruction of justice and in that light he is far more admirable than Ray Lewis. But his being the "athlete" in the presence of an "accidental death" in the vicinity of some partying behavior is very comparable to the "Ray Lewis Event". I fully expect Arrington to come out of this with no meaningful charges against him. As host of the party, he could be responsible if some "under-21" folks were served booze, but I don't consider that kind of thing nearly as bad as a "gun incident". |

I KNEW you'd be the one to get it. We have the shinning. (I bet you'll get THAT too) |
Re: Another gun incident
I agree with SC. It's not a perfect comparison, but it's fairly close.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! Quiet TAFKAS! Do you want to get sued? |
Re: Another gun incident
It's unfortunate that this party was meant to celebrate a weekend of fundraising events for charity that Arrington helped put together and host, something he often does.....but that's not even relevant it seems

I'm sure in alot of reports (including one I did on the radio today  ) that not many will mention that it was celebrating fundrasing events. |

I'll concede "coincidental", but I still take issue with making the comparison until there is any accusation of wrongdoing. It just doesn't feel right to me to compare him to a criminal simple because somebody got shot at a party he was at. That's all. |
Re: Another gun incident
Sounds like Arrington didn't do anything wrong here, and an unfortunate incident happened to occur that was out of his control.
Still, I can't help but think back to Gibbs simple request, don't embarrass the Redskins. If you look at the latest NFL headlines on ESPN we have two headlines both involving Redskins players and guns. I can't imagine Gibbs liking that very much. |
Re: Another gun incident
What if they changed the headline to read: "Arrington throws party to celebrate end of enormously successful charity weekend.........Security officer injured in process"
That'd be ok, right? :D Seriously though, it really is frustrating.......these are the types of headlines you used to expect every few months from the Cowboys. The Skins teams in the past always managed to keep their noses relatively clean (a few exceptions sure, but relative to other teams, the Skins were always a class organization). Let's just hope they get it all out of the way before the season starts so that they can just concentrate on football when it matters most. |
