SUMMER VACATION 07/21/05 I STARTED MY SUMMER OUT TAKING MY FAMILY TO BERMUDA TO VISIT MY FATHER AND HIS EXTENDED FAMILY WHO ARE ALL NATIVES OF BERMUDA. AFTER RETURNING HOME FOR A BIT I THEN TOOK A FAMILY VACATION TO ORLANDO AND VISITED DISNEY WORLD, SEA WORLD, UNIVERSAL STUDIOS AND GATORLAND. ONE OF THE HIGHLIGHTS OF THE TRIP WAS A LIVE INTERVIEW AT ESPN WHICH I HAD THE PLEASURE OF MEETING SOME FANS AND ANSWERING SOME QUESTIONS FROM THE AUDIENCE. THE SUMMER HAS GONE BY FAST, NOW IT IS TIME TO GET BACK TO WORK. GO G-MAN!!!!! btw that wasn't me posting in all caps. But anyways, ugh, when he said go g-man at the end, i got this gut feeling he has liked the giants for a long time. i wish him well though, except against us of course. |
Re: Antonio Pierce NFLPlayers.com Journal
I wish AP the best, I'll be checking him out at Giants camp
|
Re: Antonio Pierce NFLPlayers.com Journal
i guess in the NFL you only really get 1 to 2 big paydays, so I don't really dislike him for leaving ...
This is my take though, he was a total system player, and he benefitted from having two incredible coaches, Williams and Gibbs. That might carry over in some small capacity to the Giants, but he is not going to be the same player. Oh, not to mention, he has a little more pressure now playing in New freakin York and with a huge contract .... Am I bitter? yes. |
Re: Antonio Pierce NFLPlayers.com Journal
i knew there was a chance that smoot wasn't gonna get done. But I thought we would sign pierce. I have been bitter for a while but i wish him well. But plain and simple both of the players left a team that they were with, and fans that they had, to go to teams that had worser defenses for MORE MONEY. Only positive is the money

Re: Antonio Pierce NFLPlayers.com Journal
If you want to look at the upshot of this, the other people we have for MLBs are better ATHLETES than Pierce. Whether they have the mind that he did remains to be seen.
|
Re: Antonio Pierce NFLPlayers.com Journal
yup mccune is 10X the athlete but is he smart enough to run a GW defense?
|
Re: Antonio Pierce NFLPlayers.com Journal
Let's give Pierce some credit here, I don't buy this talk that the system made him. He picked up on a complicated defense, learned a new position and became the undisputed QB of the defense. That's something to take your hat off to. He did a hell of a job last year.
Is he the next Ray Lewis? Not even close. But he's an above average player, he works hard and he's a student of the game. Definitely the kind of guy you want on your team. |
Re: Antonio Pierce NFLPlayers.com Journal
It will be fun on Oct 30 as our H Back and O Linemen are driving him into the ground as Portis is running by him. Its nice we get to see him twice a year and he can see that our D hasn't missed a beat without him. Besides that I wish him all the luck in the world. He may need it!

I wish him well except when he plays us, I do think that with the talent we have at MLB now, if someone can be the QB as well as he could, we'll be just fine. |
Re: Antonio Pierce NFLPlayers.com Journal
I still think the system helped him a lot, every player on our defense had a career year. He is good and he had to have some talent to play as well as he did, but i do not think he will be as good as he was last year

Re: Antonio Pierce NFLPlayers.com Journal
I'm going to be a mean person here and say I hope Pierce stinks up the joint. Think about it. If he totally sucks, we know we really have a genious as a D coordinator, and it will give us confidence throughout the year if we continue to shuffle players on D because of injury. I want us to win so bad, I wish others to fail.

i'm with you mancd, screw antonio, he left us to go play for another team in our division. i hope he, as well as the giants , totally suck. he now is the enemy!!:FIREdevil |
Re: Antonio Pierce NFLPlayers.com Journal
The thing I have against Pierce, if your going for the bucks and want a big payday......it's a business, but if you plan to do that then keep your BIG MOUTH shut and don't claim that you want to be a long time Redskins.............
From David Elfin Washington Times: Middle linebacker Antonio Pierce could be starting his final game for Washington on Sunday, but the free agent-to-be reiterated yesterday that he has no plans to leave the Redskins. "I'm big-time confident that it will get done," Pierce said of ongoing contract negotiations. "[Redskins owner Dan Snyder] and Coach [Joe] Gibbs are committed to it. They know I don't want to go anywhere else. This isn't going to be my last game with the Redskins." |
Re: Antonio Pierce NFLPlayers.com Journal
Pierce said he didn't want to leave, but at the same time you have to understand in the end he has to make the best decision for himself, and the Giants simply offered him a better deal.
Pierce was more than fair to the Redskins, he gave them the chance to match the deal and the team declined. I can't find any reason to hold anything against Pierce, again I wish him the best. |
Re: Antonio Pierce NFLPlayers.com Journal
i wish him success in his life off the football field but as far as on the field goes, i wish him and his team much trouble and no success. same goes for smoot and the vikes. it doesn't matter how good or nice a player was when they were skins, once that player choses to leave, he no longer has my support. especially when he choses to play for a team in the same division.
may antonio be "SCALPED" by the skins offense this year..........twice!!!!!! |

The thing you have to understand about that is its a negotiation tactic. LaVar did it, too, but it was more effective for him. As a player if you get the fans behind you (along with the team players) then it will put pressure on the front office to meet your demands, because if they don't they will get negative press for it and morale may suffer. Its almost the only platform that a player has to use besides the field, and dont think agents know this and advise their players to say things like, "I want to be a lifetime ________". (insert current team name) |
Re: Antonio Pierce NFLPlayers.com Journal
tactic, my ass, he just didn't have the balls to say...."yea, i'm gonna go to the team that offers me the most money".
|
Re: Antonio Pierce NFLPlayers.com Journal
lol how stupid would that be. This is a career to these guys and they have to manipulate public opinion about them from time to time to get paid. We're all adults here, and you have to understand that there's a good bit of showmanship involved in all professional sports. The only reason the big money is there is because of TV and advertising. Its a show. The great thing about the NFL is that they take measures to keep the game real and not just a stage for personal politics. Even with the measures in place, when you're on a public platform, you'll never stop people from using that for their own personal benefit.

Re: Antonio Pierce NFLPlayers.com Journal
I totally agree with Mattyk and canthetuna - Pierce gave us an opportunity to match the NYG's offer and we didn't. I can't blame the guy for wanting to get millions of dollars more than we would have given him. It's his life and career.
To a certain extent, I wish Pierce the best of luck. On the other hand, I hope he plays awful against the Skins. |
Re: Antonio Pierce NFLPlayers.com Journal
Ultimately what matters is that the Redskins beat the Giants so even if AP has 5 sacks, 3 interceptions and 4 forced fumbles in each game but the Skins sweep then that's all I really care about

Re: Antonio Pierce NFLPlayers.com Journal
you guys must be living in a fantasy land or something. everybody who is a fan of football knows that most players go to the team that offers the biggest contract. what antonio did was nothing new and i don't dislike him for it, he did what was best for him. but for him to talk all season long about how much he loved the skins organization and the fans was just him blowing steam up everyones asses who actually believed him. of course he's gonna give the skins a chance to match his biggest offer, he can sell his house , look for a new one, move his family to a town where they don't have any friends, take his kids out of school and send them to a new one where they will have to start all over again with making friends but they would be rich or he can stay in a town that he and his family is already familiar with, by a bigger house in the same town, keep his kids in the same school with the same friends and be rich, of course he gave the skins a chance to match. he chose to leave, therfore i choose to wish his football team and career very little success. the more success he and his team has could mean less success for the skins.

I actually think the opposite. Smoot is playing on a team with a high-scoring offense. That means that the offenses Smoot will be playing against are going to be passing the ball often. Smoot will likely get lit up fairly often. I like Smoot, but I think he's overrated (in Madden terms I'd put him somewhere around 88-89). |
