"I think I can be a pretty good receiver," Brown said.

Brown, 26, made several eye-catching receptions during the first day of camp, and Coach Joe Gibbs seems very inclined to use him in certain packages and not just as a return specialist. The Redskins signed Brown last November after Buffalo released him, and he appeared in three games, making Chad Morton, one of Washington's ill-fated 2003 free agent signings, expendable (he was released in June). Receiver Santana Moss will also have a hand in punt returns, Gibbs said, but Brown is the frontrunner to handle those duties in most situations."



I like hearing this... How tall is he?

He's pretty small. I think around 5'8/5'9. But he's freaking quick as hell. Any type of spark on offense will help.

I only Tivo'd one game last year, that was the season finale with Minnesota. Brown looked like he was a step faster than anyone else on the field, he was FLYING around, plus he's hungry and he'll play his guts out. I hope he sticks with the team.

Antonio Brown and Taylor Jacobs......both are sleepers this year. Either one of them or both of them will blow up.

Brown is a Gibbs favorite, he really likes this kid, Brown has Daryl Green type speed, when Green used to return punts on occasion it alway's looked like there wasen't a defender on the field, I think they were so scared of over committing on him that they laid back to much and he ran between them, but it wasen't Green's flat out speed that made him a great return man, it was his ability to stop and cut and be at full speed faster than probably anyone who ever played the game, B.Sanders was great but he wasen't even close to Greens straight ahead speed.

Brown I believe possesses that kind of speed and quickness, not quite in Greens league but very close, the fact that he's showing to have [from what we are hearing very good hands] is a MAJOR plus for our offese, this kid could stretch a defense beyond it's limit's, couple that with the pattened Gibbs comeback routes and we may have found a BIG TIME STEAL!

The most encouraging words coming out of camp as well as the mini camps are Ramseys, he keeps saying he's not used to guys with that kind of speed, as well as the kind of seperation they are creating, I am very encouraged by those statements. Now if we can provide him proper protection we can be very dangerous, but keep in mind Gibbs offense really only runs well when the QB has big time protection, it's not a west coast style 3 steps and dump it it need's a comfortable QB to operate properly, the QB's are asked to hold the ball a little longer and look deep first, this requires a line that will have the QB's trust, but when this happens the offense is a thing of beauty.


Let's see, Moss, Patten, Jacob's, and Brown, all out on a pass pattern together with Portis in the backfield, I would love to see a defense scramble to try and match up with that kind of speed? In fact I would like to see that combo on the relay's at the next olympics! :biggthump

Brown will make the team so long as he doesn't shoot up some people or host a party with guns or something....

He is a 8'9" man beast: Never mind, I tried this in an other thread and only one guy got the Bill Brasky reference. In all seriousness, do they add to people's height and weight at the pro level? I only played high school, and I remembered laughing when I looked in the paper, not only at opposing teams, but my own team. All of a sudden, every dude was at least 2 inches taller and 20 pounds heavier.

He breast feeds John Madden. (I had to be the obligatory "guy who got the Bill Brasky joke"). It does seem commonplace to overstate a player's size, I'd peg him at around 5'10".

My favorite thing is when they talk about basketball players and they say "he's 6'4"...6'6" with shoes on" How often do basketball players play without shoes on anyway?

And of course nothing beats "He's 6'5"...6'9" with the afro"

So, I'm in the back of a pickup with Bill Brasky and a live deer! Well, Brasky, he grabs the deer by the antlers, looks at it and says, "I'm Bill Brasky! Say it!" Then he squeezes the deer in such a way that a sound comes out of its mouth - "Billbrasky!" It wasn't exactly it, but it was pretty good for a deer!

How was Kurt Warner bagging groceries and a year later the Super Bowl MVP?

I'm not saying Brown will follow a similar course, but there are plenty of examples of players that are hidden gems and don't fully blossom right away.

It's all about a combination of scheme, opportunity and luck as to whether a non big-name guy ever turns into a quality player. Sounds like Brown had neither the opportunity or luck before he came here. Now he has all three so if he can be a productive player this is where it is going to happen.

I love this time of year. We've spent an entire thread talking about a guy who is likely to be at most the 4th WR. And we all are enjoying it. Welcome back to football season warpathers. Now that they're on the field we can drop the FO arguments and spend valuable work time talking about the 4th and 5th string WRs. Quality!

And maybe Rod Gardner will be one... ;)

Antonio is gonna give our offense great field advantage. Our offense will have shorter field too work with. Don't know if he is good route runner to be a WR. He can break it almost every time he touches the ball.

last year our 5th string safety was starting every game, so it actually can be important ;)

-dante hall (probably the best return man inthe nfl, and a decent if unspectacular receiver)
-adam vinateri - best kicker in the nfl, maybe one of the best ever (throwing TD passes in between winning superbowls)
-warner (as stated above, he seems to have lost it just as fast though)
-delhomme (nfle to top half of nfl starting QBs)

etc etc... theres probably a ton of guy that could have been stars and never got the chance, but now that you have so many safety nets (afl, nfle, cfl) that pay livable salaries its become easier to pursue opportunities and catch some of the guys that never got a fair shot (or needed polishing etc)...

Just send them straight down field as fast as they can run and leave Portis in to block and the dump off pass. If the receivers are covered then they have sent six backs out to cover them leaving the field wide open for a short pass to Portis with an open field.I'm sure we were not the first to think of this though.At least I hope not.

We certainly aren't the first to think of it. Sounds like the Rams a few years back with Holt, Bruce, and Hakim flying down field and having Marshall come out of the backfield. It would be sweet to have that kind of success. I just don't know how well our personell matches up to the example I've given. That offense was just awesome.

MIke Martz is freaking nuts when it comes to play calling, he is aggressive as all hell, and Marshall was WR coming out of the backfield! We got the speed, but not the components!

Realistically, what can we expect from Brown? I mean as receiver. I wonder? I'm starting to get real giddy about him, but I know that is based on hype, kind of like when I first heard about Matt Jones ...

Definately Wilds, this guy seems to get good press everytime there's a "camp report". It's interesting to see how much the Post & Times are discussing the formative speed of this team. I mean much of the NFL is predicated on speed but you'd think this is the fastest corps in the league with how much attention their giving it.

well, portis is one of the faster rbs (fastest lateral movement for sure), moss and pattern are #2 and #3 on ypc (ashley lelie (broncos) is #1 i think), brown is supposed to be as fast as moss, jacobs is supposed to be a burner and thrash has good speed too (30-50yard returns last year), so if we were the fastest receiving corp i wouldn't be surprised at all... we've got four burners and the best depth of fast WRs.

the question is whether they can make this offense go though... coles and gardner weren't great last year, but they were pretty decent blockers for WRs, and i'm not sure our midget wrestling league is capable of avoiding a drop off there. Hopefully they can make up for it in other ways.

And that's an important point that shouldn't be overlooked. He may not be more than the 5th WR but he will most likely be our primary kick/punt returner. And that's a critical position, especially with a team that showed not so promising offensive results last year. So whether or not he gets much time on the field during offensive plays, Antonio Brown will still be a critical component of the team
