Ramsey and Brunell Trading Places???
Okay, after game one Ramsey looked extremely uncomfortable. He said on that INT that the ball came out wrong in his hands....translation, he put too much air under the ball. Of course, it would help for the dump off receiver to run a route past the first down marker! :frusty:
Anyways, for the brief time that Brunell had came in, he looked alot more comfortable than Ramsey, and performed pretty good....at least from what I got to see of the game. I didn't get to see Campbell at all, but others I have talked to said he preformed pretty well. I am worried about Ramsey though..I know it's just the first preseason game, but leaving your first team offense in for nearly the entire half is not a good sign! |
Re: Ramsey and Brunell Trading Places???
Ramsey seemed too "fidgety" in my opinion. Our O-line gave him good protection, but somehow he seemed like he's rushing his passes. He overthew couple of passes to Patten when he was open. Brunell did look good, he showed marked improvement over his performance last year....wish I could say the same about Ramsey. I've been a Ramsey supporter for years now, but he's not showing me any improvements.

Re: Ramsey and Brunell Trading Places???
I'm not too worried about a skins QB controversey. Ramsey will be better when he works with the first offense. he didnt have much time to get comfortable and we didnt have much of a running game (although I think we could have). Brunell did look suprisingly good compared to last year's performance, but he still did what he did last year and anyone in their right mind wouldn't trust a season to him.
|
Re: Ramsey and Brunell Trading Places???
Plus remember that Brunell was playing against mainly back-ups. Ramsey seemed nervous. I think he will be much more comforable by the time the season rolls around.

Fidgety is too nice. He was non-efficient. No composure. No threat to the Carolina Panthers at all with the deep pass. His cannnon arm of yesterday is non-extistent. What was he working on in all of the unofficial and official camps during this summer? How to pretend he understands what Gibbs wants when in reality he is totally in over his head. He is at the end of the road. There's no more chances after the first five games of this season. |
Re: Ramsey and Brunell Trading Places???
I'm not sure that Brunell's performance against mostly 2nd team players was good enough to forget the god-awful season he had. Ramsey didn't look great, but its way too early to make any calls just yet. He still has to gel with his receivers, and o-line. That takes time. Training camp just started remember? Tonight was a preseason game - essentially a practice, not everyone looks good in practice...

Why should Ramsey be nervous? Last year he cried foul when Brunell was named the QB. He was named the starting QB at the end of 2004. He participated in every unofficial and official training camp this summer. He should the most comfortable QB in the league. Unless he's looking over his shoulder at the future QB of next year or possibly this year if he continues to make the same mistakes that has crippled the Redskins offense and possilby Ramsey's future with another team next season. |
Re: Ramsey and Brunell Trading Places???
People generally refer to Micheal Vick as a "running" QB. You know why that's offensive? He's not a running QB, He's a QB who has the ability to run and throw which is greatess weapon against the defense.
I dug that up from one of your earlier posts and if it were a vote, I think you'd get your QB evaluations silenced by most of your peers. Vick is most definately a running QB. His passing game sucks almost as much as your QB perception. |

Ok, maybe nervous wasn't the right word. Maybe uncomforable, or even a little fidgety like someone else said. It was the first preseason game. I still think he'll settle in by the time the season starts. |
Re: Ramsey and Brunell Trading Places???
I really hope so. Because we all deserve more than what we have been seeing so far. I'm in New Jersey and NFL Network seemed reluctant to show the live action in Carolina, opting to show the Giants's rain delay rather than the non-extisent offense of the Redskins.

Forgive me... I didnt mean that he hasnt been working with the first squad in practice... I meant that he only had his first string running back in for one series in an entire game... and thats our idenity. Also the play calling was down to bare minimal in the preseason and he hasn't worked with the guys much against other people's defenses. Thus he has a reason to be a bit uncomfortable and a hope of coming out of it. |
Re: Ramsey and Brunell Trading Places???
I thought Jason Campbell looked like a blue-chipper. While he was against the 3rd team, one thing he possesed was poise. He also had a rocket arm and excellent scrambling ability. I would live to see him play 3-4 games into the season. Im not sure
if I am putting to much weight on the 1st pre-season game. But his performance def. was a positive of the game. |

I don't know if you play golf or not, but if you do, then if you haven't played in several months, you'll want to spend some time at the range before jumping in some strangers' foresome. Imagine having to brush up but get on page with people whom you've never met before and only having a couple of hours a day to do it and then getting all creative support yanked from you. Preseason is about execution, and he WAS raw. I agree, but pulling the plug has gotten us nowhere, why continue down that road. |

You ain't kidding either Sunra, where you been? I was saying the same thing they would rather show a rain dealy in cleveland than live action for the skins, the no huddle from direct is lousy, last time I waste time trying to catch some skins action. |
Re: Ramsey and Brunell Trading Places???
Ramsey doesn't trust the offense yet IMO, it will take a little time of consistant line play before he relaxes, the good news is we didn't allow a sack against a very formidable defense, Ramsey will have plenty of time and plenty of reps from here on out to prepare for the opener.
As far as Brunell is concerned, an experienced veteran like Brunell should look good against a backup defense in the pre-season. Rock had a pretty good night catching the ball looked good coming out of the backfield. For anyone who didn't see the game I believe the NFL network will be replaying the whole game monday at 4:00pm if you have direct tv. |

Re: Ramsey and Brunell Trading Places???
Another thing I've noticed about Ramsey tonight was that he was trying to finess the ball instead of trying to zip it in there. I know Musgrave is trying to teach Ramsey how to put more "touch" on his throws, but when he was playing under Spurrier system, his long throws seemed perfectly fine. I'm not a big fan of Musgrave, he produced lowest scoring offense an a coordinator for the Jaguars last year, so how is he supposed to help our offense?

Re: Ramsey and Brunell Trading Places???
to answer the question of the thread. No, we need "consistency" blah blah blah, same old smae old. No way can i hope that brunnel starts, but remember Ramsey and Brunnel both played in the second and both played similar players, brunnel just did a hell of alot better. It wasn't that he had easier players to play against in the third, it was just that he was so cool under pressure. He did roll to the left again and again but hey when he did he actually made defenders miss, i love the screen when brunnel was running back about 15 yards and just made a nice touch pass and the player went for 15 yards, if anyone saw that or has it recorded, look at Portis, he comes running down the line like a 10 year old and starts jumping up and down and up and down. he wasn't even in the game but he was so exited, it was just cool.
I just hope that both brunnel and Ramsey do well and in that case even Campbell, better they do the better we are. Ramsey can do it, i just feel he can. Do any of you truly feel that if Ramsey doesn't preform early it will be the end for him in washington? no it just feels Ramsey is right. THE DIRTBAGS!!!!! OWNED. HAIL TO THE REDSKINS AND HAIL JOE BUGEL> WHAT THE HAIL I NEVER SAW THE GLORY DAYS BUT DAMN HE TURNED THAT SHEEEEET AROUND!!!!!! |
Re: Ramsey and Brunell Trading Places???
I'm going to chalk the tone of this thread up to not seeing Redskins football for eight months. Clearly the offense looked a little off, but it's the first preseason game! If we had looked great, it would mean precisely nothing. Should we be upset that Ramsey underthrew two balls? A little. Should we be planning the ascent of the third-stringer? Not really.

Dude we had no running game at all. The team had only 22 rushing attempts (3 of which were by Cambell and Ramsey) for only 68 yards. That's definitely not a running game. Of course, they didn't really try to run at all. Gibbs only called for a running play 19 times. That's definitely not a Gibbs offense, and is definitely not the kind of game he'll call in the regular season. Last night had extra emphasis on the pass because he wants to get that phase of the game in synch. Pass protection looked better. But remember, Ramsey and all the other QBs were forced into a lot of 2nd and longs and 3rd and longs because there was no running game. So the Panthers took away the deep passes in those situations. I agree that Ramsey looked a bit shaky on some of those throws and he needs to be better. But remember that Gibbs will emphasize a lot more runs in the regular season. Let's not judge the offense until we see Gibbs call a game the way he would in the regular season. |
Re: Ramsey and Brunell Trading Places???
remember how good danny wurffulle(sp) and the skins offense looked during that first pre-season game against the 49ers a few years ago? remember how bad danny and the skins offense sucked during the regular season?
pre-season games don't really mean a whole lot. sure i would have liked for ramsey to look a little better but it's still very early. |

I have to commend you on your support of Ramsey. Are you not concerned at all. Jake Delhomme didn't seem to have much of a problem moving the ball, even without Muhammad. Oh, and I don't think he had much time to "gel" with Rod Gardner. |

Gardner really only had one good "gel" catch. The touchdown came as Dehlomme was running for his life about to be sacked and threw up a prayer off his back foot. It could have just as easily been an int if Springs were back there. |
Re: Ramsey and Brunell Trading Places???
I'm just saying, with all the talk about needing time to get used to playing with the starters, I think Ramsey would have been a little better by now. I mean, he was working all off season. Someone needs to tell him he has more time than he thinks to throw.

I agree totally man.........if I have to see Ramsey's feet pitter patter back in the pocket, as if he were going to piss himself, all season......I will lose it. As decent (average) as he looked at the conclusion of last season it seems as though he has taken another step back, which is not what I expected. And he didn't make me believe he had control of anything in relation to the scheme. |
Re: Ramsey and Brunell Trading Places???
i agree. ade's good play/bad play ratio is something like 30/70. he is a nice guy to talk to, but he can't cover for shit. im willing to give him another chance, but if he does something like that in next week's game, i wouldn't be suprised if he got cut.
|
Re: Ramsey and Brunell Trading Places???
I'm a huge Ramsey fan but it sounds like we are making a lot of excuses for Ramsey not having time to gel with the new scheme, new receivers, etc. We'll see, it is only preseason guys.
I must say, if Brunell keeps up the crisp passing during the pre-season a QB contreversy will be unavoidvable for Gibbs & Co. |
Re: Ramsey and Brunell Trading Places???
I kind of hear a contradiction among those who say "don't fret, it's just preseason."
If that's the case, then Ramsey shouldn't have been nervous for the game. It's just practice. If anything, he should has proved to us that he's in control, and I didn't see that by the way he was dancing around in the pocket last night. We can't afford to have a QB take weeks to feel comfortable. I just hope Ramsey shows us better in the next few weeks of preseason. If not, I'm very worried. For those who said that Ramsey just played with the first team starters for the first series, that's not the case at all. The only guy I saw leave after the first series was Clinton Portis. Gibbs kept the first team in there for most of the first half and I believe Brunell played with the first team at least until half time. Also, the reason why we didn't see much of a running game was because Gibbs had only implemented seven running plays last night. I believe last night was mainly to see how the passing game has improved - and so far, it hasn't. At least the receivers did appear to be getting open downfield, but again, it remains the fact that the QBs have to get the ball to the receivers - and unfortunately with Ramsey last night, he wasn't getting the job done. Hopefully Ramsey will have a better game against Cincy on Friday. I wonder how long Gibbs will keep him in the Bengals game? |
Re: Ramsey and Brunell Trading Places???
To add though - I think once we see every aspect of this year's offense, we'll see better production - it is hard to judge an offense on 1/3 of it displayed in last night's game.
|
Re: Ramsey and Brunell Trading Places???
true people are making excuses. i feel he had enough time as being "the guy" to get comfortable....... with that said i just don't think a single preseason preformance will change my mind about him. He can do it, we all know he can do it, i think within the next 3 weeks he will trust the line and his protection. If they give him reason to trust them he will and i am sure he already knows what a great job the line did for him yesterday
the guy must have scary flashbacks everytime he sees a d-lineman. He was taking shots every play two years ago he has to learn to trust them because in my opinon he was uncomfortable and felt he was gonna go down. TRUST TRUST TRUST |
