Great to hear! Now lets hope Jacobs comes along as well.

I'm very anxious to see how quickly Rogers picks things up. I think he'll be an important peice this year.

As for Lavar, let's just ease him in, and by the time the season comes, he'll be good to go--and with so much to prove to the naysayers.

I'd rather not clear Arrington to play until around September 11th against Chicago.

Sometimes it seems he's made of glass held together with scotch tape. I mean really, has he EVER played a full 16 games? 12 games?

I'd bring him along slowly (which is definetly what they've been doing), but you do need to get him in the mix with his teammates in WIlliams system.

all that arrington injury prone talk is practically worthless. i mean, he only had one injury riddled season, and all of his other seasons he stayed healthy, except for maybe a game or two. as for the guys coming back, i have to say:
yesssssssss!!!! im so glad that they are almost back to normal. i can't wait to see what l.a. does in the regular season.

i am getting pretty fed up with the media notion of lavar being injury prone.

i have this dumb ass fantasy book that says, don't pick lavar he is injury prone, everyone always hopes he will be good for their team but he gets hurt and ruins your season. Let someone else pick him and deal with the headache

WTF how i was on the phone with a friend and this was a month ago and i spent 15 minutes talking about how much sheet that is, i mean how the hell is he injury prone.

now i am pissed i am gonna find that dam book e-mail its editor and post the dam quote up. Studpid suns a beeetches

He's been very consistant, but if you listen to the fans talk about him this past year, you'd think all he did was get hurt and overrun plays. To consistantly have 90+ tackles as a OLB, you're doing pretty goddamn good. Those are MLB numbers and they're supposed to be leading the team.

someone pointed out on dan patrick (sportstalk 980) that we didn't want to give smoot more money in bonuses than springs, then we turn around and pay an unproven rookie 11mill (which iss more than 10mill springs got) without seeing him play a game.

I know he's talented, but still, i'm not sure letting ssmoot go was the best idea.

Honestlty...was Smoot HAT good...he had Green, Bailey and Springs next to him his entire career. I'm pretty confident Rogers can match(or surpass) his productivity.

The pick would have gotten a bonus in that range regardless of his position - comparing Rogers' contract to Smoot's isn't fair/

it is fair though, cause we lost one cb and got another and it cost more to replace smoot than it would to keep him.

rodgers is ssupposed to be better, but there's always the off chance of a bust and either way, it'll take time to get him ready.

and no i don't think smoot was the best corner ever noviskin, but he was a known and proven quantity and he's a lot better than walt harris, who's going to be his temporary replacement till rodgers is ready and it would have alleviated our need to spend a top 10 pick on something we could have already had ;)

dude we can compare it because we could have traded that pick or we could have not traded 3 picks for Campbell, we could have just picked him with our number 9
but i am confused don't we pay springs like 30 mil 6 years, while usatoday says we gave Rogers $17.45 5 years, i mean the bonus is just that a bonus. in the long run don't we save having Rogers?

it depends on the time frame you base the savings on and you do end up with an extra player with the pick which would also help the team more (though not monetarily).

In the long run, rookies save money, but they're also unproven in the nfl, and in case of busts you lose time and money. (these last two drafts seemed to have gone well as far as picking talent with the few picks we've had though).

Personally I'm done with crying about who's not here.

The team made Smoot a fair offer, he got more elsewhere, more power to him.

Rogers is a more physical CB anyway and appears to be a better fit in this defense.

Let's wait and see how things play out. He certainly has a great attitude and is itching to get on the field at any cost, much like Smoot.

OK, in your scenario, we'd have spent $11 million on Smoot's bonus, all would be well, and we'd have drafted someone else - Mike Williams, DeMarcus Ware - who knows.
That person would be in line for the same $11 million bonus we gave Rogers. Our cap isn't so healthy that we can make signing of that magnitude without further paring of the roster. I think you may be underestimating Harris as well, who started for six years in Chicago and two in Indy, and only played nickel on the cheap last year because he was recovering from injury. He played all 16 games for us last year as well - something neither Springs nor Smoot can claim.

"A better fit for this defense" is the operative phrase. Smoot is a good cover guy, but Williams wants guys that can stuff the run and crush the QB. Rogers will probably be more suited to do that. Also, look at Trotter. He sucked for us, Williams let him go. But he was good with the Eagles. Why? The system. And look how we did at MLB last year. Pretty good. Williams knows who he wants for "HIS" defense, and has proven nearly infalible on his decisions regarding personell. If Williams is fine with losing Smoot, as well as Pierce, I can't understand why we can't trust that after what he has proven. Also, I can see why he didn't want Trotter. After seeing him interviewed, I realized this was not a card carrying member of MENSA by any stretch. He is very one dimensional. Williams likes brains and speed at the MLB position.

LaVar Arrington stretched his leg by pushing against the goal post padding, gingerly handled his first 1-on-1 blocking drill, appeared to limp slightly at times and took part in only a couple of plays during the 9-on-9 drills.

Doesn't sound too good.

No way. Two totally different injuries. Tendinitis is one of things that take time and can continue to come back and haunt you. Lavar had a bone bruise.

I think that people will be surprised about how good our defense is this year. I believe that we improved.

How would people see it if we signed for the first time:

A probowl OLB
A 1st round CB
A proven DE
A proven safety?

Except Carlos, these other guys didn't play for us last year so it's like we signed a dream team to help the already good defense.

Lets hope the injury bug stays away from us...
