Matt Bowen Hurt!

I just heard on WTEM that Matt Bowen was carted off the practice field after an apparent knee injury. There were no more details. I really hope it is nothing serious as I think Bowen should start if healthy...

Re: Matt Bowen Hurt!

Well that stinks. Any idea how serious it is?

Re: Matt Bowen Hurt!

S Matt Bowen went down during Wednesday's practice with a mild MCL sprain in his right knee and is day to day.

WR Taylor Jacobs' sprained big left toe is a bigger concern that originally thought. He'll miss his second exhibition game Friday and might not return to practice for another week or two.

Man, are secondary is taking a beating. This sucks. And what's up with Jacobs? Is he ever gonna be healthy?

I think that the way our defense plays we are going to see this a lot. That's why it's important to have all starters on defense.

These guys play with total wreckless abandon. I don't care who we play, that attitude will scare them.

Re: Matt Bowen Hurt!

Yikes...looks like Bowen can't stay healthy! I am real concerned with Jacobs...he might injure himself out of a job if Brown continues to impress.

Jacobs is such a bust. He should just hang it up.

Re: Matt Bowen Hurt!

Any posibility of trading him for a draft pick? I don't think we should keep him on our roster for another year based on his "potential".

Sheriff Gonna Getcha 08-17-2005 10:45 PM

Re: Matt Bowen Hurt!

Bowen's injury doesn't appear to be all that serious based on what I've heard - it's been described as a "mild sprain."

yeah, appearantly it's day to day. but it's the same knee he injured last year.

Guys, calm down on jacobs. This puts him out for a couple weeks and if it was during the season he COULD play. It's the preseason, they take extra procautions.

JWsleep 08-18-2005 02:17 AM

Re: Matt Bowen Hurt!

Good point, Daseal. THey're not going to push anyone in preseason, especially after what happened over the last year with Lavar.

Sounds like Bowen isn't bad, but we'll know more tomorrow. Another worry is Portis's elbow--seems to be sore and flaring up. He most likely won't play Friday either, according to the Post.Portis, Bowen Could Miss Game vs. Bengals

it's just preseason, as long as everyone is healthy by the regular season im happy.

Sounds like these are your typical pre-season nicks and bruises. Hopefully we can through preseason in look pretty good.

Man, lets wait a little while before we go and call Jacobs a bust! He'll be back for the regular season, and hopefully he'll get some playing time. I'm sure he'll come in strong. He has something to prove.

LOL c'mon man he's never going to pan out. He's going into his 3rd year, time to move on.

;)

Let's put him on the trade block for a 1st rounder. Oh wait, this isn't Madden.

Rod Gardner got us a late round pick, I'd be interested to see the market for Taylor Jacobs.

These injuries are starting to bug me. I know it is preseason and we probably would not be hearing about these things much during the season, because guys would play anyway, but now Portis is hurt and won't play tomorrow and Bowen is hurt...... We may not see the first team on both sides of the ball until Sept 11th. I hope our Offense and Defense steps it up a little at home tomorrow night and takes these injury worries away.

Defensewins 08-18-2005 11:56 AM

Re: Matt Bowen Hurt!

The big question is do we cut a healthy, productive WR for Jacobs? Yeah we can wait it out on Jacobs during the preseason, but up to what point do we wait for him to be healthy and live up to his supposed incredible/awesome (the next Jerry Rice) potential?
If he does not play at all this preseason, it is time to let him go or put him on injured reserve. We have other good WR's and I am sure one or two good ones will become available at final cuts. Wr's are a dime a dozen.

MTK 08-18-2005 12:08 PM

Re: Matt Bowen Hurt!

First off, Jacobs shouldn't miss the entire preseason. He's still has some swelling but he said he's ahead of schedule.
Receiver Taylor Jacobs (sprained toe) said he remains week-to-week. Although he is walking better, there is still swelling around his toe. "I'm doing good; I'm ahead of schedule right now," said Jacobs, who has missed nearly two weeks.
Second, who out there is a better option right now? Do you cut Jacobs and give that spot to McCants?

I wouldn't.

It just seems really silly to want to give up on a 3rd year WR because he has a minor injury.

Defensewins 08-18-2005 12:21 PM

Re: Matt Bowen Hurt!

Taylor has been a no show for the last two preseasons. Taylor is a walking minor injury.
It is funny that there is a thread to decide if McCants or Dyson should stay. Taylor should be in that mix, he is not an automatic to make this team.
Dyson and McCants have better career numbers. To say Jacobs is better is speaking very hypothetically.

The Redskins would not giving up on Jacobs because of a minor injury or injuries, it would be because he has failed to live up to fraction of the potential of a 2nd round pick. In my opinion the guy has been a big disappointment. I don't care that he is the next Jerry Rice in practice, it is not translating onto the regular season or even preseason field.

Re: Matt Bowen Hurt!

It's all about risk/reward to me, defensewins. I think the risk of cutting Jacobs for say Kevin Dyson is alot worse than the rewards of cutting a guy like Dyson, to give Jacobs another year to get his sh*t together. Ya know what I mean? I'm growing impatient on Jacbos as well, but I still dont think we can cut him this year.

MTK 08-18-2005 01:26 PM

Re: Matt Bowen Hurt!

Trust me, Jacobs is in no danger of being cut.

Take it to the bank.

It's McCants or Dyson that will be fighting for the final WR spot.

Not this year anyways. But, if he doesn't have a pretty good year this year, that's probably it for him.

If you're right, then McCants had better find a real estate agent. Dyson plays special teams, MC doesn't. Whether it's Jacobs's fault or not, (and certainly injuries aren't) his situation could turn into that of Cliff Russell's -- potential shot to pieces by injuries. No team can hang on to a player like that for long. This is Jacobs' last shot in Washington unless he steps up big time this year.
