Dr. Z explains why Skins will go 4-12 (sort of)

Here's his half-assed explanation:

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2005/writers/dr_z/09/01/predictions.explanation/

4. REDSKINS (4-12)

I know this is a vicious prediction, and since Washington has some of the most dedicated e-mailers in the land, I expect to hear from an army of them next week, just as I did last year when I picked the Skins ... what ... 5-11 or something like that? Gregg Williams' defense shouldn't let this happen, but it was good last year, too, and so what? I think the Patrick Ramsey-Mark Brunell-Jason Campbell merry-go-round is a bad situation and the sign of a deeper problem -- namely that this team doesn't quite know what it's doing.

What F*****g Merry-Go-Round? Where has Coach Gibbs said he'll play the best man available a la Stevie Spurious?

Dr. Z, please get a real job.

He is just too old.

Re: Dr. Z explains why Skins will go 4-12 (sort of)

How is the Ramsey, Brunell & Campbell a merry go round. Last year Mark had the starting job and lost it to Ramsey. Ramsey came in and the jod has been his from there on out. Campbell only has two ways of seeing the field this year. 1-Ramsey and Brunell get hurt, and with the way our line is prodecting I don't see that happening. 2 Ramsey is playing just good enough and stays in for the first half of the year and then Gibbs sees that Ramsey is not our answer. Then the ball will go to Campbell to get him an early start for next year. I do not see Brunell getting to start in the second half of the year unless we are in realy good shape to make the play offs. I realy think its funny how a writer can write off Gibbs after one season.

Re: Dr. Z explains why Skins will go 4-12 (sort of)

The problem with Dr. Z assessment in looking at the Skins' schedule is that he is assuming that because the Skins only won one game in their division last year, they will probably do no better than that this year. So let's look at the schedule..... They SHOULD beat the Bears, and the 49ers, because they are both at Home. They COULD beat the Bucs, the Raiders, and the Giants all on the road. They also could split with everyone in the division, the Boys, Eagles and Giants at home. That is 8 real possibilities based on their performance last year. I know some might question my win over the Eagles, but the Skins lost to them by 3 points at home last year, and I have to think that the Skins have improved more than the Eagles have improved this year. Enough to overcome those 3 points and Ramsey's INT late in the game. I would be thrilled with an 8-8 Skins team this year, and think it is more possible than Dr. Z gives them credit for.

I don't like his assessment, but Dr Z knows a lot about football. No need to trash him becasue he doesn't think the skins are any good. Hopefully, he is wrong. Everyone is entitled to thier opinion. The only writer who gets to me is Lenny P, because it really does appear clear that he has an axe to grind in every article...

After reading the foundation for his theory, I'm reminded of the opening paragraph of the Desiderata ..

"Go placidly amid the noise and haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence, as far as possible without surrender be on good terms with all persons. Speak your truth quietly and clearly, and listen to others, even the dull and ignorant; they too have their story."

The entire article says Dr. Z is in serious need of psychological therapy. Talks to himself way to much, replies to himself, then takes his own thoughts too seriously!

GOD this article of Dr. Z is really affecting you, it's really funny 2 week ago when the NFC East prediction post was in this site all of you put the Redskins no worse that a 9-7 record some of you said. they (the Skins) will win the division.

Now 2 weeks later Dr. Z says your team will go 4-12 and you start saying "well I know we ain't that good but, we ain't that bad". Some say that a 6-10 prediction was more accurate and the most opptimistic of you said 8-8 COULD be reached if all things fall into the pieces.

Come on what happen in the last 2 week you finally accepted your team it ain't that good I agree it ain't that bad a gave them a 8-8 prediction myself putting the little giants at the bottom of the conference, but after some reporters across the league star bashing your team and saying they ain't good you bow your head and say we aint really good but we also ain't that bad.......

It's good that you're finally seeing things more clearly, its sad that it took this for you to aproach this in a more realistic way. Now I don't agree with Dr.Z with the 4-12 prediction that's to low, you have a good RB good OL and good D that will at least win you 6 games and 2 maybe 3 more. I think an 8-8 its more realistic and it could go to 9-7 or 7-9.

Dr. Z is not as hellbent on trashing the Skins as that fat ass Jabba the Hut turd (aka Lenny Pastabelly, aka fat ass, aka bad comb-over). But, Dr. Z is nonetheless a moron. We're pretty much wasting out time evaluating the prognostications that these so-called experts churn out each preseason. Most experts and analysts know little more than me or any other football fan.

I personally think we're probably going to end up 9-7. Many of the teams that we are facing this season are really good on offense, but really bad on defense. Our defense should be able to handle opposing offenses, while our offense should be good enough to win games. The Cowboys and Giants offenses looks terrible; so I think we should be able to squeeze 2-3 wins out of them and possibly one win from the Eagles.

Gentlemen, we can get as pissed off as we want about these types of predictions, but until this team shapes up and starts performing the way all of us think they can, we can look forward to more of this.

Since 2002, this franchise has generated records of 7-9, 5-11, and 6-10. That’s the mark of a bad football team no matter how you slice it. Honestly, what has happened that would make any outsider believe that this is a playoff team on the verge of a breakout season? As fans, the only thing we have to cling to is hope. The same way we would look at the Cleveland Browns, the San Fransisco 49ers, or the Houston Texans – some other knowledgeable observer of the NFL could look at us and sum up the same type of expectations. The only way to change that is to start winning. But every year, we seem to find ourselves uttering the same familiar words: “Maybe next year.”

Either this team is full of great players who manage to underachieve season after season, or they’re just plain bad, and not even Joe Gibbs can do anything to change it.

This may infuriate a lot of us, but then, the truth usually does.

the skins will win the east this year and they'll do it in grand fashion, they will sweep the giants, dallas and the eagles.

no i'm not joking around. the skins will surprise alot of people this year. the defense will be better than last year's and the offense will finish in the top 12.

the cowriods will be the worst team in the east. their defense will struggle worse than many think and their offense will end the year ranked no better than 25th.

The only disagreements I have with you are the games against Oakland and San Diego. The Chargers were a mirage last year, and got knocked out of the playoffs in the first round. Granted, they MADE it to the playoffs, which is more than we've been able to sniff at recently, but they remind me of the 2001 Chicago Bears -- things just seemed to go their way, and reality caught up with them.

Oakland's offense doesn't scare me at all. We've handled Randy Moss in the past, Collins is a statue in the pocket and will get toppled quicker than Saddam Hussein's did against those Iraqi nationalists. Plus, they've got no running game and no defense. Trust me, this ain't 1983, and the Raiders haven't scared anyone since then.

While I agree that it's not a QB merry-go-round YET, the addition of Jason Campbell only serves to indicate that the ride could at least be warming up. Add this to the fact that Joe Gibbs himself said that Mark Brunell's final history with this team hasn't been written yet. It's up to Ramsey to make sure none of this happens, but so far, #11 hasn't exactly put these notions to rest.

The truth I was referring to was that we've gone 7-9, 5-11, and 6-10 over the last three seasons. That's the mark of a bad football team no matter how you look at it. And until we start winning games and proving people like Dr. Z wrong, there will be much more pieces like his to come.

Your draft and free agent pickups helped you on defense, but your offense is going to stink. With Bledsoe as mobile as a dog turd in December and a poor offensive line, I can't see you pulling away from the season with 10 wins and a wildcard spot.

Re: Dr. Z explains why Skins will go 4-12 (sort of)

First off, "Hail to the Redskins!"

Second guys I would not take this stuff to seriously, most of this stuff is just because of Snyder who is a popular whipping boy for the media. Something to keep in mind regarding the current World Champion Patriots is the following:

With no running game and tough competition in the division the 1999 season was tough for the Patriots. The team started 6-2 but finished 8-8, and Carroll was fired. Luckily for the Patriots, Bill Belichick, hand-picked to be Parcells' successor with the Jets, quit after one day to join New England. After a tough season with lots of close losses, the Patriots finished 5-11.

Found the above on the following website,

http://www.canbet.com/whatsnew/new-england-patriots-history.aspx

Our season last year is much like the Pat's 5-11 2000 season....not predicting a Superbowl win here, but I have good feeling about this team, that's all.
